  • Xcent-Net is a new system network designed to support a clustered SMP called SPAX(Scalable Parallel Architecture based on Xbar) that is being developed by ETRI. It is a duplicated hierarchical crossbar network to provide the connections among 16 clusters of 128 nodes. Xcent-Net is designed as a packet switched, virtual cut-through routed, point-to-point network. Variable length packets contain up to 64 bytes of data. The packets are transmitted via full duplexed, 32-bit wide channels using source synchronous transmission technique. Its plesiochronous clocking scheme eliminates the global clock distribution problem. Two level priority-based round-robin scheme is adopted to resolve the traffic congestion. Clear-to-send mechanism is used as a packet level flow control scheme. Most of functions are built in Xcent router, which is implemented as an ASIC. This paper describes the architecture and the functional features of Xcent-Net and discusses its implementation.

  • Slotted ALOHA (S-ALOHA) is a classical medium access control protocol widely used in multiple access communication networks, supporting distributed random access without the need for a central controller. Although stability and delay have been extensively studied in existing works, most of these studies have assumed ideal channel conditions or independent fading, and the impact of time-correlated wireless channels has been less addressed. In this paper, we investigate the queueing delay performance in S-ALOHA networks under time-correlated channel conditions by utilizing a Gilbert-Elliott model. Through simulation studies, we demonstrate how temporal correlation in the wireless channel affects the queueing delay performance. We find that stronger temporal correlation leads to increased variability in queue length, a larger probability of having queue overflows, and higher congestion levels in the S-ALOHA network. Consequently, there is an increase in the average queueing delay, even under a light traffic load. With these findings, we provide valuable insights into the queueing delay performance of S-ALOHA networks, supplementing the existing understanding of delay in S-ALOHA networks.

  • Long Tenn Evolution (LTE) is the next generation mobile phone technology which has being standardized by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). In the existing mobile communication networks, voice traffic is delivered through circuit switched networks. In LTE, however, all kinds of traffic are transferred through IP based packet switched networks which has best-effort characteristic. Therefore, providing QoS in LTE system is difficult. In order to provide QoS in LTE, RRM is very important. Especially, in part of RRM, call admission control (CAC) performs an important function to reduce network congestion and guarantee a certain level of QoS for on-going calls. In this paper, we propose a CAC algorithm in order to provide QoS for various kinds of services in LTE system. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated with various simulation environments. The results show that the proposed algorithm provides QoS through rejections of requested calls. Especially, the proposed CAC algorithm can be satisfied with packet delay requirement defined in LTE specification.

  • For power constrained applications, IEEE 802.15.4 networks may be operated in beacon enabled mode with inactive period. h this paper, we propose the Virtual Arrival Mechanism (VAM) to avoid the congestion at the beginning of each contention access period (CAP). Virtual Arrival Mechanism (VAM) is a kind of traffic shaping that spread the traffics congested at the beginning of CAP into the whole CAP. By using VAM, collisions and energy consumption can be reduced. Finally, we evaluate the performance enhancement of VAM using NS-2 simulator.

  • As the era of AVs (Automated Vehicles) comes to a close, many researches related to AVs have been conducted. Up until now, research on traffic flow impact of AVs has been the main topic, and research on traffic management for AVs is still in beginning stage. This study analyzed the effect of Dynamic Merge Control (DMC) in manual vehicle (MV) and AV environment at work zone. Dynamic Late Merge (DLM) and DLM with Dynamic Early Merge (DEM) are compared by simulation. Simulation results showed that DLM improves travel time and work zone throughput compared to no merge control case in both MV and AV environment. In the case of additional operation of DEM, the improvement effect was not observed in MV environment, but it was improved in AV environment. As a result, DMC operation in AV environment was as effective as the improvement in transition from MV to AV environment. Therefore congestion reduction at freeway work zone by DMC will be possible in future AV environment, and the improvement of DMC can be suggested.

  • Delay reduction of vehicles at the intersection is highly dependent on the signal operation method. Improper traffic operation causes the violation of the traffic regulations and increasing traffic congestion. Delay because of congestion has contributed to the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The focus of this paper is to measure the amount of carbon dioxide when the intersection is changed to roundabout. Even though, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) recommends Tier 1 method to measure the amount of greenhouse gas from vehicles, this paper used Tier 3 method because we could use the data of average running distance per each vehicle model. Two signalized intersections were selected as the study area and the delay reductions of roundabout operation were estimated by VISSIM microscopic simulation tool. The control delay for boksu intersection reduced from 28.6 seconds to 4.4 seconds and the KRIBB intersection sharply reduced from 156.4 seconds to 23.6 seconds. In addition, carbon dioxide for two intersections reduced to 646.5 ton/year if the intersection is changed to roundabout. Future research tasks include testing the experiment for networks, as well as for various intersection types.

  • In this paper, we want provide improved services with faster transmission, IEEE 802.11n was standardized. A-MPDU (Aggregation MAC Protocol Data UNIT) is a vital function of the IEEE 802.11n standard, which was proposed to improve transmission rate by reducing frame transmission overhead. In this paper, we show the problems of TCP retransmission with A-MPDU and propose a solution utilizing the property of TCP cumulative ACK. If the transmission of an MPDU subframe fails, A-MPDU mechanism allows selective re-transmission of failed MPDU subframe in the MAC layer. In TCP traffic transmission, however, a failed MPDU transmission causes TCP Duplicate ACK, which causes unnecessary TCP re-transmission. Furthermore, congestion control of TCP causes reduction in throughput. By supressing unnecessary duplicate ACKs the proposed mechanism reduces the overhead in transmitting redundant TCP ACKs, and transmitting only a HS-ACK with the highest sequence number. By using the RACK mechanism, through the simulation results, it was conrmed that the RACK mechanism increases up to 20% compared the conventional A-MPDU, at the same time, it tightly assures the fairness among TCP flows.

  • In B-ISDN(Broadband Integrated Services Digital Networks), the efficient implementation of multicast function is very important since the demand for distributed type of service such as VOD(Video On Demand) system is expected to grow. In this paper, the multicast performance characteristics of fully-interconnected switch fabric used for our research is the proper architecture for a small-sized switch element, and it uses bit addressing method for addressing scheme and thus it is easy to implement multicast function without adding a function block. To incorporate the bursty nature of traffic in ATM networks, we used IBP(Interrupted Bernoulli Process) model as an input traffic model. We presented and analyzed the simulation results in terms of the multicast operation of the switch. Based. on this study, it its analyzed that congestion avoidance may be feasible if we use a proper traffic control scheme by finding an overload point due to multicast.

  • Currently, in Korea, a multi-seater lane (HOV) and a designated lane system are being implemented to solve traffic congestion. However, in both systems, it is difficult to crack down on cases of violations without permission, so people are required to be assigned to areas that want to crack down. In this process, manpower and budget are inefficiently consumed. To compensate for these shortcomings, we propose the development of an integrated enforcement system through YOLO, a deep learning object recognition model. If the two systems are implemented and integrated using YOLO, they will have advantages in terms of manpower and budget over existing systems because only data learning and system maintenance are considered. In addition, in the case of violations in which it is difficult for the existing unmanned system to crack down, the effect of increasing the crackdown rate through continuous learning can be expected.

  • By securing golden time, this study analyzed the effects of an emergency vehicle priority system in Cheongju, North Chungcheong province. Until the scene of a fire is reached, severe obstacles in the street, such as traffic congestion, cars coming forward, non-cooperative vehicles etc., are significant. To solve these problems of road obstacles, it is essential to adopt an emergency vehicle priority system. From April 2017 to June 2018 (1 year and 2 months, 426 days), the dispatch time and date, fire truck moving distance and required time, traffic signal control section and pass time, and shortening time, were measured. This study selected 140 cases consisting of five heavy traffic and frequent dispatch routes out of 293 cases. The effects of the emergency vehicle priority system were excellent. Overall, it took 3 min 3 s to pass 1 km on an uncontrolled traffic signal section. On the other hand, it took 1 min 23 s to pass 1 km on the same section that was controlled. The shortening time to pass 1 km was 1 min 40 s, showing a 45.4% reduction. This means that the 15 min driving time can be reduced to 6 min and 49 s. From this result, an emergency vehicle priority system should be implemented nationwide as soon as possible.
