Objectives : The purpose of this review is to investigate the trends of traditional korean medicine treatments on frozen shoulder. Methods : We investigated the studies on traditional korean medicine treatments for frozen shoulder via searching 6 Korean web databases. As a result, 32 research papers were found to be analyzed according to their published year, the titles of journals, published institution, the types of study, the number of cases, the types of treatments, the instruments for assessment and ethical approvals. Results : 32 papers were published since 1989. The studies on traditional korean medicine treatments about frozen shoulder were mainly published in The journal of korean acupuncture & moxibustion medicine. 10 case series, 7 reviews, 6 non-randomized controlled trials, 5 randomized controlled trials and 4 case reports had been under research. In most of the research, the number of the cases were not enough. In 15 cases of the studies, various traditional korean medicine treatments were used to treat the symptoms. In 8 cases of the studies, one method was used to treat the symptoms. Range of motion(ROM) and visual analogue scale(VAS) were used as primary assessments. Among the 25 clinical studies, 5 of them were accepted by institutional review board(IRB). Conclusion : In this study, we analyzed the trends of traditional korean medicine treatments on frozen shoulder. Reviewing the domestic trends of studies on traditional korean medicine treatments for frozen shoulder and examining the strong and weak points of those treatments are essential for the future studies.

Methods : We investigated the studies on traditional Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM) treatments for degenerative knee arthritis via searching 5 Korean web databases. In 22 cases of the studies, one method was used to treat the symptoms. Whereas in 5 cases of the studies, various TKM treatments were used to treat the symptoms. Visual analogue score(VAS) and patient's subjective complaints were used as primary assessments. Conclusion : In this study, we analyzed the trends of TKM treatments on degenerative knee arthritis. Reviewing the domestic trends of studies on Traditional Korean Medicine treatments on degenerative knee arthritis and examining the strong and weak points of those treatments are essential for the further studies.

Post-stroke oculomotor nerve palsy occurs more frequently than previously reported, but only a few studies of traditional Korean medicine treatments have been reported. The symptoms are severe and difficult to treat, and current treatments are high-cost, short-lasting, insufficient for shortening the therapeutic period and promoting better recovery, or involve the risk of post-operative over-correction or under-correction. Traditional Korean medicine treatments may be comparatively effective at lower cost and less harmful. Thus, we report three cases of post-stroke oculomotor nerve palsy treated with traditional Korean medicine.

Objectives Allergic purpura is frequent disease in children. The purpose of this study is to analyze traditional Chinese medicine treatments of Allergic purpura in children through traditional Chinese medical journal research. Methods 22 studies were selected based on title keyword "Allergic purpura" "Child" published in CAJ (China Academic Journal). The studies were about clinical effect, herbs, injections, treatments, and nursing in Allergic purpura in children. Results & Conclusions There are so many treatments studied on purpura in children based on CAJ. A Single or combination traditional Chinese medicine treatment is effective in Allergic purpura in children. Therefore, we need to study more about Allergic purpura in children and should make more clinical cases about it.

Objective: This case report represented that Korean traditional medicine therapies can make effective results for chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy(CIPN) patients. Methods: A 63-year-old female patient has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer(Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor). Total excision of uterus and appendages was operated, and Bleomycin, etoposide and cisplatin combination therapy was applied. After three cycles of chemotherapy, the severe side effects of neutropenia and CIPN occurred. Chemotherapy was terminated, but numbness and tingling pains in the limbs persisted for several months. We provided Korean medicine treatments including herbal medicine, pharmacopuncture, acupuncture, moxibustion and physiotherapies. Results: After treatments, the numbness and pain were reduced from 10 to 1 in hand and 6 to 0 on the numeric rating scale(NRS). Functional assessment of cancer therapy/Gynecologic oncology group neurotoxicity (FACT/GOG-NTX) score was improved from 58 to 97. Conclusion: According to these results, Korean medicine treatments could be considered effective for CIPN. Prospective studies are needed to confirm and expand these findings.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to discuss the diagnostic classification of the traditional medicine for pilosis, and the hair removal treatments in traditional medicine and its clinical application. Backgrounds : In recent years, appearance and beauty have become main interest that have positioned in the medical area. In clinical Korean medicine, a variety of methods such as moxibustion, superficial bleeding, multiple microneedling, facial meridian massage, herbal medicine facial pack, laser acupuncture, and intense pulsed light (IPL) have been applied. Methods and Results : Pilosis, a condition of abnormal hair growth, is stated for the first time in the publication, [Pathogenesis and Manifestations of All Diseases] by Chao Yuan-fang in 610 A.D. It shows that pilosis has been recognised as a disease for ages in Asia. Reviewing several publications, we found multiple approaches to pilosis were already existed in korean medicine. They include internal medicinal classification and its' medications. Acupuncture treatments also focused on regulation of radical causes and superficial removal of abnormal hairs. Specific treatments includes body and ear acupuncture, ear acupressure, hypodermic acupuncture, hypodermic acupuncture injection, laser acupuncture treatment. Physical and chemical methods of hair removal were widely invented. we resulted that significant scientific approaches to pilosis are under way in the korean medical field, and found a variety of medical treatments such as herbal medicines and dermatological methods. Conclusions : Hair removal treatments for pilosis in traditional medicine has a long history. Combined with advanced modern technology it can achieve greater advance in cosmetology.

The discoid meniscus is an innate modified form of the meniscus, characterized by middle hypertrophy and a larger than the regular diameter, leading to an absence of the characteristic "C" arrangement. Previously, no study has reported the traditional Korean medicine treatment of knee pain mainly due to discoid meniscus. Here, we report two cases of a discoid meniscus of the knee as the cause of knee pain. Patients were diagnosed with magnetic resonance imaging for discoid meniscus and received traditional Korean medicine treatments, including pharmacopuncture, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and chuna. The pain was alleviated when assessed by patient-reported pain scale scores, and the general knee condition was improved. Thus, traditional Korean medicine treatments could be effective for patients who had discoid meniscus of the knee joint in this case report.

Objectives The objective of this study is to report clinical effect of korean traditional treatments for Operation-delayed Cauda Equina Syndrome patient. Methods The patient was treated by korean traditional treatments including acupuncture, physical treatment, herbal medication. The improvement of the clinical symptoms was observed by Modified Visual analog scale (Modified VAS), SSCES (Scoring System for Cauda Equina Syndrome), function of urination and function of defecation. Results After treatments, Modified VAS, SSCES, function of urination and function of defecation were improved in this case. Conclusions On the basis of these results, we suggest that korean traditional treatment might be an effective method to improve the clinical symptoms of Operation-delayed Cauda Equina Syndrome patient.

Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the current status of treatments and patients with interstitial cystitis, and then map out a strategy for development of generalized-treatments for interstitial cystitis in Traditional Korean Medicine. Methods: We selected research paper from various databases such as PubMed, Google, KStudy, KoreanTK, OIM, and KOMS. Also, to understand current tendencies of medical cost related with interstitial cystitis, we requested Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service clinical data from 2007 to 2011. Results: It was reported that treatment of interstitial cystitis using Traditional Korean Medicine was effective. However, patients of this usually visit a Western medical center rather than seek Traditional Korean Medicine. To take charge of clinical fields related with interstitial cystitis by Traditional Korean Medicine, we need more research and experiments of interstitial cystitis using Traditional Korean Medicine, and we must make a standardized protocol. Conclusions: Various studies related with interstitial cystitis using Traditional Korean Medicine will have to be undertaken. We expect that Traditional Korean Medicine will play a role in treatment of interstitial cystitis.

Objectives There are constant increase numbers of cases mumps in children. The purpose of this study is to analyze traditional Chinese medicine treatments of epidemic mumps in children through traditional Chinese medical journal research. Methods 20 studies were selected based on title keyword "Epidemic mumps" "Child" published in CAJ(China Academic Journal). Study researched about clinical effect, herbs, attachment, moxa, venesection treatments in epidemic mumps in children Results & Conclusions There are so many treatments about epidemic mumps in children through analyzing studies in CAJ. Single and combination traditional Chinese medicine treatment is more effective in epidemic mumps in children. Therefore, we need to study more about epidemic mumps in children and should make more clinical case about it.
