Busan is one of the most popular tourist cities of the Republic of Korea. To develop differentiated urban brand as the nation's flagship maritime city, Busan needs to explore diverse marine tourism stories and develop related contents. For the purpose of developing storytelling as a way to facilitate the maritime tourism of Busan, this study attempted to i) create 'marine leisure Galmaetgil of Busan' contents using 5-step storytelling modules and ii) develop themed tour routes based on the marine tourist contents and related graphic elements such as tour route map and image editing. Galmaetgil is a beautiful trail developed along the coastal line. It is one of the most famous tourist contents of Busan. Based on this asset, Busan would be able to develop its own tourist contents as the nation's proud marine-leisure city. The emotional stories which can draw a great attention from the citizens and tourists and informative storytelling would make people understand and experience marine leisure in a fun and easy.

This study was done to compare socio-economic characteristics and travel pattern, preferences for ecotourism facilities and programs of domestic and international tourists who visited to Jeju Island. On-site survey was carried out during July, 2006 and a total of five hundred and fifty five (555) individuals' data were analyzed. Survey results showed that there were significant differences between socioeconomic characteristics and travel patterns as well as preferences of both parties. Even among international tourists from countries with different languages showed different characteristics. These different characteristics among tourist groups imply that tour route design and program development should be accordingly considered to provide satisfactory experiences.

How can new media devices and networks provide an effective response to the world's growing sector of cultural and historically-minded travelers? This study emerged from the question of how mobile handsets can change the nature of cultural and historical tourism in ubiquitous city environments. As wireless network and mobile IT have rapidly developed, it becomes possible to deliver cultural and historical information on the site through mobile handset as a tour guidance system. The paper describes the development of a new type of mobile tourism platform for site-specific cultural and historical information. The central objective of the project was to organize this cultural and historical walking tour around the mobile handset and its unique advantages (i.e. portability, multi-media capacity, access to wireless internet, and location-awareness potential) and then integrate the tour with a historical story and role-playing game that would deepen the mobile user's interest in the sites being visited, and enhance his or her overall experience of the area. The project was based on twelve locations that were culturally and historically significant to Korean War era in Busan. After the mobile tour game prototype was developed for this route, it was evaluated at the 10th PIFF (Pusan International Film Festival). After use test, some new strategies for developing mobile "edutainment content" to deliver cultural historical contents of the location were discussed. Combining 'edutainment' with a cultural and historical mobile walking tour brings a new dimension to existing approaches of the tourism and mobile content industry.

Recently, the marine leisure are being emphasized with improving the quality of life style by increased income and spare time. Also, there is a increasement of people's interest in marine leisure activities. But resources and facilities do not grow in proportion to the quantitative growth of the current marine leisure industry. Besides, a leisure ship operator tends to choose a simple or familiar route of the local area rather than a new leisure routes which are not explored due to lack of accessible areas information. This paper proposes a routes recommendation system in order to solve above problems based on marine resource database. The databases have been constructed through investigation and analysis of navigational information such as environmental conditions including weather conditions and sea status, field of marine leisure activities, tourist attractions and natural landscape, and marine leisure prohibited areas. Therefore we have developed and implemented the route recommendation system that provides various information necessary to route operation of leisure boats.

This study examined the Hanghae-Gamsa's (the local governor of Hanghae-Do) utilization of the governing institutions in Hanghae-Do during the Sulryeok (an inspection tour around the Gamsa's ruling area). For this purpose, the four Hanghae-Gamsa's official diaries were closely investigated, which were written from the 18th century to the early 19th century. The main results of this study are as follows: 1) the routes of Hanghae-Gamsa's Sulryeok and some sightseeing parts; 2) the arrival route of newly appointed Hwanghae-Gamsa and the site of Gyogwui (the change-over ritual ceremonies) between old and new Hwanghae-Gamsas; and 3) utilization of governing institutions in Hanghae-Do during the Sulryeok focusing on his duties and ritual ceremonies.

Reunification and economic development are discussed as the national visions of the Korean Peninsula in the 21st century. In particular, the tourism industry must be included as one of goals pursued under these visions because tourism indeed seeks for the happiness and peace of human beings. Mt. Kumgang tour began on November 18, 1998 and a land route to Mt. Kumgang also opened on September 1, 2002. These historical events have brought huge changes in the tourism industry of South and North Korea, and over 1,000 tourists are enjoying the Mt. Kumgang tour everyday. Nevertheless, the Mt. Kumgang International Tourism Zone is still poor in tourist accommodations as well as tourism infrastructure. Legal and institutional systems as an international tourism zone have not been established, and incidental and convenience facilities are insufficient. All these problems make it difficult to operate the special zone. Thus, this study set the following objectives to solve these problems: Establish systematic theories on the Mt. Kumgang International Tourism Zone, analyze theories on external factors, factors affecting tourist accommodation expansion, and use the findings as basic materials for tourist accommodation expansion strategies.

This study is in order to promote agricultural products sold in the rural village festivals direct transaction marketplace and enabled by a comprehensive user evaluation of the rural village festivals direct transaction marketplaces in universal design perspective, provide a design plan for your care and comfort of a rural village festival Direct Deals Marketplace there is a purpose. Thus, redefining the principles of universal design suitable for direct transactions rural village festival marketplaces, and to do this by reclassifying the design elements of the farmstand-type in a framework was developed 30 questions to evaluate items for Universal Design Evaluation. And, the selection of three villages along the rural village festivals scale and conducted a survey of Universal Design Rating. As a result, the overall assessment was positive for B villages of rural village festival marketplaces direct transactions, there was a significant difference with the other village. In particular, there was a notable difference in the fairness, efficiency, promotional, safety and hygiene. And, there was a significant difference in design elements for directing atmosphere by selling space, product display, hygiene. This paper presents the design suggestions about a rural village festivals farmers' market aspects of universal design for improvement of the marketplace as following, 1) placement for differentiation the markerplace and around sites in the festival place, 2) to build the operating systems of sustainable management for arrangement and organization during the festival, 3) to install the device for maintaining agricultural products freshness 4) to separate the sale of local specialty products and general food products, and 5) to locate the suitable space considering the visitors tour route in the festival place for large-scale festival.

In this study, we developed an algorithm for automatic travel itinerary planning based on expert recommendation. The proposed algorithm generates an itinerary by patterning a number of travel routes based on the automatic itinerary generation method based on the routes recommended by travel experts. To evaluate the proposed algorithm, we generated 30 itinerary for Singapore, Bankok, and Da Nang using both algorithms and analyzed the mean difference of trip distances with t-test and interater reliability of those itineraries. The result shows that the itineraries based on the proposed algorithm is not different from that of VRP(Vehicle routing problem) algorithm and interater reliability is high enough to show that the proposed algorithm is effective enough for real-world usage.

This study aimed to draw the plan elements and characteristics that should be considered in case when developing guidelines to build up roads in rural villages. Drawing the construction elements necessary for building up roads through the advanced researches, the survey was conducted for relevant experts in order to evaluate the importance of each plan element of route plan, design & construction and operation & management. The result determined total 105 contents that should be considered in case when building up roads in rural villages. The study on building up roads in rural villages as a strategy to vitalize rural areas means universal roads that connect each village with rural amenities in various values like walking tour road, visit roads and observation roads. It is considered that the development of guidelines for building up roads in rural villages could be used as a basic data to build up roads where nature, culture and history of rural areas can be effectively experienced and enjoyed.

A campus guide robot was developed that can autonomously guide people through a university campus. The robot is able to evaluate its location using Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) and Dead-Reckoning using the encoders mounted on its wheels. The robot can navigate autonomously along a guide route that is set in advance. A new position-based guidance approach was suggested. Unlike the conventional method of setting the guide sequence in advance, the robot acquires guidance by judging whether there is guide information corresponding to its current position. The robot searches guide information from the guide database while it moves along the guide path autonomously. If there is any guide information available around the location of the robot, then it performs guide functions. We also suggested an effective guide scenario that can maximize the interest of people. The performance of the robot was tested through sets of experiments in a true campus environment.
