  • Since the advent of Six Sigma in 1980's, Six Sigma is widely used in various industry areas, such as manufacturing, financial, government, and service, and proves its innovation ability and value by providing lots of success stories. Several researches have been conducted to adopt Six Sigma for Software Development and Software Quality Assurance-Software Six Sigma. Although the wide use of Six Sigma, there is no software tool to support the execution of Six Sigma Project. For this reason, the Quantitative Six Sigma Project Management is required to support for measuring and analyzing Six Sigma Projects, storing and reporting the results from Six Sigma Projects, and managing Six Sigma Projects through the whole process of, DMAIC or DMADV. In this paper, we introduce the design and implementation of a Quantitative Six Sigma Project Management Framework and Tool. The execution of Six Sigma Project based on Six Sigma Project Management Tool benefits the quantification, the systematization, and the integration.

  • Objective: To develop an ergonomic evaluation tool which can be apply to assess the lower-limb postures associated with farming tasks. Background: In general, most of existing ergonomic assessment tools was developed to investigate the work-related musculoskeletal disorders of the upper-limb postures in manufacturing industry. Methods: As the first step of development of the evaluation tool, 13 lower-limb postures that were commonly observed in farming task were investigated by the subjective discomfort ratings, heart rates, and muscle activities. And then, an ergonomic evaluation tool for the lower-limb postures was developed based on results of the first experiment. Lastly, the ergonomic checklist which was developed in the current study was compared with other existing ergonomic assessment tools. Results: Based on the results of comparisons between a newly developed assessment tool and other existing assessment tools, it was found that a newly developed tool can perceive more sensitively for the various lower-limb postures than other assessment tools. Conclusions: Lower-limb posture assessment tool which can evaluate and assess risks of lower-limb WMSDs which were prevalent in farming tasks more easily and accurately was developed in this study. The lower-limb assessment tool can also be utilized to prevent WMSDs related with lower-limbs as well as improve working environments.

  • This paper considers the selection of process plans for a flexible manufacturing machine. Most of the planning models for the automated manufacturing systems are based on the assumption that for each part there is only one process plan available. This paper considers that for each part a number of different process plans are available, each of which may require specific types of tools. If the requisite tools are not on the machine, one or more tool switches must occur before the process plan can be processed. This paper develops an optimal algorithm of branch and bound method for the selection of process plans to minimize the number of tool switches.

  • Risk assessment is useful tool making good decisions on the risks of certain hazardous com-pound and suggests safe margin through scientific process using toxicological data, statistical tool, exposure value and relevant variants. The goal of risk management is to protect the public health from hazardous compound based on result of risk assessment having reality. For the suggestion of exact man-aging information, risk assessment must be designed to represent a "plausible estimate" of the exposure to the individuals and to minimize uncertainty. Risk assessment methodology and knowledge are expected to change more rapidly than before and up-to-date methodology should be applied in regulatory aspects through the Agency. For the useful application of risk assessment, the communication between the risk assessor and the risk manager is needed before the initiation of the risk assessment and upon its completion. Generally, the risk assessment itself as a practical tool in the regulatory decision making process would be regarded with social economic impact.ic impact.

  • Voronoi diagram of a set of geometric entities on a plane such as points, line segments, or arcs is a collection of Voronoi polygons associated with each entity, where Voronoi polygon of an entity is a locus of point which is closer to the associated entity than any other entity. Voronoi diagram is one of the most fundamental geometrical construct and well-known for its theoretical elegance and the wealth of applications. Various geometric problems can be solved with the aid of Voronoi diagram. For example, the maximum tool diameter of a milling cutter for rough cutting in a pocket can be easily found, and the pocketing tool path can be efficiently generated from Voronoi diagram. In PCB design, the design rule checking can be easily done via Voronoi diagram, too. This paper discusses an algorithm to construct Voronoi diagram of a simple polygon which consists of simple curves such as line segments as well as arcs in a plane with O(nlogn) time complexity by employing the divide and conquer scheme.

  • Attitude is very difficult to be measured directly; therefore it must be inferred frrom assumed relationship with observable indicators. In some aspects, behavior represents the attitude of a person about a thing, person or issue. In this paper a tool has been devised to measure the attitude of contractor in ongoing project. However, the tool has been tested in a completed technical school construction project in Nepal. The results show that the tool can reasonably measure the attitude of the contractors and can be helpful for the owners to control the projects.

  • Postural tremor of the upper arm in a static posture was measured to provide guidelines of hand tool weight. Three types of camera recording postures were selected. Postural tremor was measured on five levels of tool weights; no weight, 400g, 800, 1200g, and 1600g. For each conditions, upper arm postural tremor was measured together with EMG of biceps, deltoid, and pectoralis major, and Borg's CR-20 scale ratings of perceived exertion. Results of the experiment are as follows; Frequency analysis of tremor revealed that increased amplitude of frequency band of 2-4Hz and 10-14Hz was observed. Postural tremor of the upper arm maintained the initial level until fatigue developed. After the development of fatigue, the rate of the change of postural tremor was significantly increased. Different tool weights and hand postures showed different rate of tremor increase. And time to fatigue and the corresponding endurance time was positively correlated with Borg's RPF scores.

  • The purpose of this thesis is to develop a performance rating training tool for the time and motion study. It is widely recognized that rating training tools based on films were made several decades ago and introduced to Korea. However, to the best of our knowledge, those films are not used for rating training in Korea any more. Furthermore, although rating is still important method for the efficient operational management study, it is briefly mentioned without any training or exercise. In this paper, we propose a simple rating training tool based on Excel with VBA. The mottoes of our development are the ease of acquisition and trainees' motivation. Test results show that trainees can obtain the concept of rating and the ability of accurate and consistent rating as they play a computer game sitting in front of the personal computer.

  • We develop some evaluation tool and indicators for the scores for medical equipment replacement in hospital. There has been no research for Korean hospitals although there are many for foreign medical institutions. In this paper, among many variables that were obtained from the previous studies, eleven variables are selected as indicators and tied as three groups. And then we obtain scores of medical equipments based on the weighted values of those indicators. We can make decisions whether we replace medical equipments or not by ranking the medical equipments based on the scores. This paper shows that we can make decisions to replace medical equipments very objectively and effectively using the evaluation tool and indicators we develop.

  • The goal of this study is to investigate the ergonomic factors in designing or selecting the hand tool handle. Electromyogram (EMG) were measured for various wrist postures and handle sizes under two loading conditions. Anthropometric data were measured and the correlation with EMG measurement data were analyzed. Investigations of this study show that wrist posture should be neutral for minimum muscle tension and optimum handle size can be found by measuring the EMG measurement data. It show that hand width and EMG measurement data is greatly correlated also. This study can be a guide of designing or selecting a hand tool, but further study with large sample sizes and various groups is needed for making general conclusion.
