Comparison of precision Machinabilities and Cutting Time in Inclined Milling Process (노우즈반경에 따른 엔드밀의 가공특성 및 절삭시간의 비교)

  • Surface generation model of three types of endmills is introduced to analyse the cutting mechanism of an endmill more accurately. Superposition method is introduced to define the effective cusp including the effects of cutter mark. Through the comparison of three endmills, it is shown that the ball-nose endmill is superior to the ball endmill and the flat endmill for inclined milling process in 3-or 5-axis machining modes. By using the objective function minimizing the machining time, appropriate nose radius is selected for various cutter radiuses and cutter inclination angles.

  • As technology advances, there is a demand for development of hard, solid lubricant coating. (Ti,Cr)N-$MoS_2$, films were deposited on SKD 11 tool steel substrate by co-deposition of $MoS_2$, with (Ti,Cr)N using a D.C. magnetron sputtering process. The influence of the $N_2/Ar$ gas ratio, the deposition temperature, the amount of $MoS_2$ in the films, and the bias voltage on the mechanical and the structural properties of the films were investigated. Wear tests were performed on the films deposited in various conditions.

  • Aluminum lithium alloys are new materials developed for lightweight aircraft parts. However, as compared with conventional aluminum alloys in high-speed machining, problems such as tool wear, machining distortion, and cutting ability arise. This study presents the machining distortion characteristics of an Al-Li alloy wing tip in relation to the cutting heat in high-speed machining. A machining experiment was conducted with high-speed machining equipment for an evaluation of the machining distortion characteristics, with each machining stage temperature change of the workpiece machining surface, and the inside and outside temperature changes of the equipment measured. By measuring the amount of distortion of the workpiece before and after machining, the cutting heat was analyzed with regard to its effect on machining distortion in the product.

  • Due to the increasing demand for carious methodologies to improve the quality of products were introduced. A Brush the most frequently used type of grinding process is one of the deburring. in order to produce consistent burr shape, various machining conditions have been combined and applied to disk grinding process. Between the workpiece and the grinding disc to earn depends on the angle of the slope has been observed. Drastic increase of tool wear has been also observed along the inclination angle variation. Various burr shapes have been captured and analyzed using image processing technique.

  • This paper deals with the effect of laser material processing on the EMU production technique. Material processing with lasers takes advantage of all the characteristics of laser light. The high energy density and directionality achieved with lasers permits strong localized heat- or photo-treatment of materials with spatial resolution below one micrometer. The pulsed and mono-chromatic light allows the control of depth of heat treatment or selective excitation. The laser beam can be moved to process large areas, is a sterile tool and is no subject to wear and tear. Using laser processing have taken more interests in EMU production for improving the rigidity, weight reduction, crash durability, and cost savings so that their application to auto-bodies has been increased.

  • In a transfer line with mass production capability, calibration systems are included in the process as a separate dedicated station. However, this method is not appropriate in an unattended FMC with flexibility. As the FMC produces vesatile parts with small batch sizes, more flexible calibration systems are required. In this paper, a calibration/inspection system suitable for an unattended turning cell is introduced. The system has functions of dimensional calibration of parts by touch probes, tool wear compensation, and quality monitoring of parts. Furthermore, characteristics of errors in the system are identified and corresponding compensation methodology is suggested. An operation software is developed for efficient use of the system.

  • Gas-permeable metal die materials are developed using tool steel powder, packed in a mold having the insertion of orthogonally arrayed polymer wires. Linear gas-permeable channels in orthogonal array are thus developed by the burning out of the polymer wires, which yield a microstructure with wear resistance value and air permeability much larger than those of the conventional gas-permeable die material.

Distortion of the Bottom Surface in Micro Cavity Machining Using MEDM

  • As mechanical components are miniaturized, the demands on micro die/mold are increasing. Micro mechanical components usually have high hardness and good conductivity. Micro electrical discharge machining (MEDM) can thus be an effective way to machine those components. In micro cavity fabrication using MEDM, it is observed that the bottom surface of the cavity is distorted. Electric charges tend to be concentrated at the sharp edge, and debris cannot be drawn off easily at the center of the bottom surface. These two phenomena make the bottom surface of electrode and workpiece distort. As machining depth increases, the distorted shape of the electrode approaches hemisphere. This process is affected by both capacitance and the size of electrode. By using a smaller electrode than the desired cavity size and appropriate tool movement, bottom shape distortion can be prevented.

  • Carbon fiber epoxy composite materials are widely used in the structures of aircrafts, robots and other machines because of their high specific strength, high specific stiffness and high damping. In order for the composite materials to be used in aircraft structures or machine elements, accurate surfaces for bearing mounting or joints must be provided, which require precise machining. In this paper, the machinability of the carbon fiber epoxy composite materials in turning was experimentally investigated. The cutting mechanism and the Taylor Tool Wear constants were determined and the surface roughness was measured w.r.t. cutting speeds and feed rates.

Developing Designs and Making Men's Outdoor Breathable Waterproof Jackets with Solar Cells for Emergency Communications

  • This study provides the structural design for commercialization of outdoor breathable waterproof jackets for men merged with solar cells to enable emergency communications, utilizing wearable devices to develop smart clothing and extend convenience in everyday life. The most popular waterproof jacket with two-layer and three-layer moisture-permeable waterproof fabric was selected, based on previous studies of functional outdoor jackets and style with affinity to fashion. Flexible solar films suitable for clothing were embedded in the lining of the sleeve area and hood visor, and printed film was developed to balance weight and design. High performance smart solar jackets have application to expanding the use of smart phones for everyday and emergency communication, and leisure and outdoor sports activities, as well as day-to-day functions as a waterproof breathable outdoor jacket for men. It is also eco-friendly. Satisfying both the aesthetic and practical, a solar cell jacket with smart features, is an innovative tool for use in a variety of outdoor activities, and a fashion-forward commercialized product.
