The objective of this paper is to present free vibration and static stability analyses of rotating composite beams reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) under uniform thermal loads. Beam structural equations and CNT-reinforced composite (CNTRC) beam formulations are derived based on Timoshenko beam theory (TBT). The temperature-dependent properties of the beam material, such as the elastic modulus, shear modulus, and material density, are assumed to vary over the thickness according to the rule of mixture. The beam material is modeled as a mixture of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in an isotropic matrix. The SWCNTs are aligned and distributed in the isotropic matrix with different patterns of reinforcement, namely the UD (uniform), FG-O, FG-V, FG- Λ and FG-X distributions, where FG-V and FG- Λ are asymmetric patterns. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effects of several essential parameters, including the rotational speed, hub radius, effective material properties, slenderness ratio, boundary conditions, thermal force, and moments due to temperature variation. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this study represents the first attempt at the finite element modeling of rotating CNTRC Timoshenko beams under a thermal environment. The results are presented in tables and figures for both symmetric and asymmetric distribution patterns, and can be used as benchmarks for further validation.
In this paper, a two-layer partial interaction composite beams model considering the higher order shear deformation of sub-elements is built. Then, the governing differential equations and boundary conditions for static analysis of linear elastic higher order composite beams are formulated by means of principle of minimum potential energy. Subsequently, analytical solutions for cantilever composite beams subjected to uniform load are presented by Laplace transform technique. As a comparison, FEM for this problem is also developed, and the results of the proposed FE program are in good agreement with the analytical ones which demonstrates the reliability of the presented exact and finite element methods. Finally, parametric studies are performed to investigate the influences of parameters including rigidity of shear connectors, ratio of shear modulus and slenderness ratio, on deflections of cantilever composite beams, internal forces and stresses. It is revealed that the interfacial slip has a major effect on the deflection, the distribution of internal forces and the stresses.
In this manuscript, free vibrations of a unidirectional composite orthotropic Timoshenko beam based on finite strain have been studied. Using Green-Lagrange strain tensor and comprising all of the nonlinear terms of the tensor and also applying Hamilton's principle, equations of motion and boundary conditions of the beam are obtained. Using separation method in single-harmonic state, time and locative variables are separated from each other and finally, the equations of motion and boundary conditions are gained according to locative variable. To solve the equations, generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) is applied and then, deflection and cross-section rotation of the beam in linear and nonlinear states are drawn and compared with each other. Also, frequencies of carbon/epoxy and glass/epoxy composite beams for different boundary conditions on the basis of the finite strain are calculated. The calculated frequencies of the nonlinear free vibration of the beam utilizing finite strain assumption for various geometries have been compared to von Karman one.

The impulse response functions (force-strain relations) for Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko beams are considered. The response of a beam to a transverse impact force is numerically obtained with the convolution approach using the impulse response function obtained by Laplace transform. Using this relation, the impact force history is determined in the time domain and results are compared with those from Hertz's contact law. The parameters of timpact force model are identified using the recovered force and compared with the Hertz's contact model. In order to verify the proposed algorithm, measurements were done using an impact hammer and a steel ball drop test and these results are also compared with the simulated values.

The present paper proposes a new dynamic analysis method for multi-span Timoshenko beam structures supported by joints with damping subject to moving loads. An exact dynamic element matrix method is adopted to model Timoshenko beam structures. A generalized modal analysis method is applied to derive response formulae for beam structures subject to moving loads. The proposed method offers an exact and closed form solution. Two numerical examples are provided for validating and illustrating the proposed method. In the first numerical example, a single span beam with multiple moving loads is considered. A dynamic analysis on a multi-span beam under a moving load is considered as the second example, in which the flexibility and damping of supporting joints are taken into account. The numerical study proves that the proposed method is useful for the vibration analysis of multi-span beam-hype structures by moving loads.

The influences of the large amplitude free vibrations of simply supported Timoshenko beams with ends restrained to remain a fixed distance apart and with no axial restraints, which cause a longitudinal elastic force and a longitudinal inertia force, respectively, are investigated. The equations of motion derived by an appropriate linearizarion of the nonlinear strain- displacement relation have nonlinear terms arising from large curvature, longitudinal elastic force and longitudinal inertia force. The fourth order nonlinear partial differential equations for the deflection, can be reduced to the nonlinear ordinary differential equations by means of Galerkin procedure and a modal expansion. The general response and frequensy-amplitude relations are derived by the perturbation method of strained parameters. Comparison with previously published results is made.

In this paper, the purpose is to investigate the stability and variation of natural frequency of a Timoshenko cantilever beam subjected to Subtangential follower force and tip mass. In addition, an analysis of the flutter instability(flutter critical follower force) of a cantilever beam as slenderness ratio is investigated. The governing differential equations of a Timoshenko beam subjected to an end tangential follower force is derived via Hamilton;s principle. The two coupled governing differential equations are reduced to one fourth order ordinary differential equation in terms of the flexural displacement. Finally, the influence of the slenderness ratio and tip mass on the critical follower force and the natural frequency of a Timoshenko beam are investigated.

In this research, experimental tensile test and manufacturing of carbon nanotube reinforced composite beam (CNTRC) is presented. Also, bending, buckling, and vibration analysis of CNTRC based on various beam theories such as Euler-Bernoulli, Timoshenko and Reddy beams are considered. At first, the experimental tensile tests are carried out for CNTRC and composite beams in order to obtain mechanical properties and then using Hamilton's principle the governing equations of motion are derived for Euler Bernoulli, Timoshenko and Reddy theories. The results have a good agreement with the obtained results by similar researches and it is shown that adding just two percent of carbon nanotubes increases dimensionless fundamental frequency and critical buckling load as well as decreases transverse deflection of composite beams. Also, the influences of different manufacturing processes such as hand layup and industrial methods using vacuum pump on composite properties are investigated. In these composite beams, glass fibers used in an epoxy matrix and for producing CNTRC, CNTs are applied as reinforcement particles. Applying two percent of CNTs leads to increase the mechanical properties and increases natural frequencies and critical buckling load and decreases deflection. The obtained natural frequencies and critical buckling load by theoretical method are higher than other methods, because there are some inevitable errors in industrial and hand layup method. Also, the minimum deflection occurs for theoretical methods, in bending analysis. In this study, Young's and shear modulli as well as density are obtained by experimental test and have not been used from the results of other researches. Then the theoretical analysis such as bending, buckling and vibration are considered by using the obtained mechanical properties of this research.
The fiber reinforced composite materials have many advantages due to their high strength-to-density ratios. Thus they have been widely used in many industrial applications. As the wave propagation are closely related to dynamic analysis of structures, it is very important to predict them. This paper presents a wave propagation in the axially loaded axial-bending-shear coupled composite laminated beams which are represented by the Timoshenko beam models based on the first-order shear deformation theory.
