Road tunnel lengths are increasing. Some 1,300 tunnels with 1,102 km in length had been increased till 2019 from 2010. There are 64 tunnels over 3,000 m in length, with their total length adding up to 276.7 km. Safety facilities in the event of a tunnel fire are critical so as to prevent large-scale casualties. Standards for installing disaster prevention facilities are being proposed based on the guidelines of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, but they may be limited to deep underground tunnels. This study was undertaken to provide guidelines for the spacing of evacuation connection passages and the widths of evacuation connection doors. Evacuation with various spacing and widths was simulated in regards to evacuation time, which is the measure of safety, using the evacuation analysis simulation software EXODUS Ver.6.3 and the fire/smoke analysis software SMARTFIRE Ver.4.1. Evacuation connection gates with widths of 0.9 m and 1.2 m, and spacings of 150 m to 250 m, were set to every 20 m. In addition, longitudinal slopes of 6 % and 0 % were considered. It was determined to be safe when the evacuation completion time was shorter than the delay diffusion time. According to the simulation results, all occupants could complete evacuation before smoke spread regardless of the width of the evacuation connection door when the longitudinal slope was 6 % and the interval of evacuation connection passage was 150 m. When the evacuation connection passage spacing was 200 m and the evacuation connection gate width was 1.2 m, all occupants could evacuate when the longitudinal slope was 0 %. Due to difference in evacuation speed according to the longitudinal slope, the evacuation time with a 6 % slope was 114 seconds shorter (with the 190 m connection passage) than with a 0 % slope. A shorter spacing of evacuation connection passages may reduce the evacuation time, but this is difficult to implement in practice because of economic and structural limitations. If the width of the evacuation junction is 1.2 m, occupants could evacuate faster than with a 0.9 m width. When the width of a connection door is 1.2 m with appropriate connection passage spacing, it might provide a means to increase economic efficiency and resolve structural limitations while securing evacuation safety.

The design methods of the road surface drainage facilities were compared for the improvement of design method. We have developed four computational design models classified by the methods to determine the duration of design rainfall and to analyze the flow of a linear drainage channel. The critical duration was determined by assuming the critical duration to be 10 minutes or by finding the duration of design storm being similar to the travel time of flow by trial and error. The flow of a linear drainage channel was analyzed as the uniform flow or the varied flow. The design models were applied to the artificial road surface drainage facilities with various channel slopes and road shoulder slopes. If the rainfall intensity of the 10 minutes duration was applied, the outlet spacing obtained from the design based on the varied flow analysis was larger than the uniform flow analysis only when the channel slope and the road shoulder slope was small. On the other hands, if the duration of design rainfall was determined by calculating the travel time, the varied flow analysis brought about larger outlet spacing than the uniform analysis for all conditions. However, the model of the critical duration concept and the varied flow analysis resulted in smaller outlet spacing than the current design method employing the rainfall of 10 minutes duration and the uniform flow analysis.
Understanding of fracture networks and rock mass properties during tunnel construction is extremely important for the prediction of dangers during excavation, and for deciding on appropriate excavation techniques and support. However, rapid construction process do not allow sufficient time for surveys and interpretations for spatial distributions of fractures and rock mass properties. This study introduces a new statistical approach for predicting joint distributions at foreside of current excavation face during the excavation process. The proposed methodology is based on a cumulative space diagram for joint sets. The diagram displays the cumulative spacing between adjacent joints on the vertical axis and the sequential position of each joint plotted at equally spaced intervals on the horizontal axis. According to the diagram, the degree of linearity of points representing the regularity of joint spacing; a linear trend of the points indicates that the joints are evenly spaced, with the slope of the line being directly related to the spacing. The linear points which are stepped indicates that the fracture set show clustered distribution. A clustered pattern within the linear group of points indicates a clustered joint distribution. Fractures surveyed from an excavated space can be plotted on this diagram, and the diagram can then be extended further according to the plotted diagram pattern. The extension of the diagram allows predictions about joint spacing in areas that have not yet been excavated. To test the model, we collected and analyzed data during excavation of a 10-m-long tunnel. Fractures in a 3-m zone behind the excavation face were predicted during the excavation, and the predictions were compared with observations. The methodology yielded reasonably good predictions of joint locations.
The interchanges of urban freeways have many problems with traffic operation due to high off-ramp flows and frequent congestion at adjacent intersections. The flow exiting from off-ramps is affected by the operational status and traffic volume conditions of the nearest signalized intersection. As a result, off-ramp flow cannot exit and the queue backs up the freeway mainline when queues from the signalized intersection form up to the junction of the off-ramp and street. The spacing between an off-ramp and an adjacent intersection is likely to determine the traffic conditions at the adjacent intersection. However, the current design guidelines do not consider such a factor. This study is to develop a model calculating the spacing between off-ramps and adjacent intersections considering the signal, traffic, and road conditions. The variables affecting the model in this study are effective green time (g/C), volume-capacity ratio (v/c), the number of lanes, and off-ramp volume. Various scenarios are designed to represent the effects of the variables and the road networks are constructed using VISSIM, which is a common traffic micro-simulation software package. The queue length is derived from VISSIM and this length is considered as the recommended spacing between the off-ramp and the adjacent intersection. Through the simulation analysis, regression models are developed to calculate the queue length reflecting the various conditions such as signals, traffic, and road configurations. The developed model can be used to create road design guidelines to determine the location of off-ramps in the planning stage.
For effective preservation of the rocks, which bearing plant fossils at Gumkwangdong Formation, Pohang, the properties of rock and treatment of chemicals were examined in an artificial weathering test. The rocks are diatomaceous siliceous mudstone, which contain a small amount of smectite and has developed laminated layers. The rocks react with water, the d001 spacing of smectite was increased. On the one hand, the physical properties of the rock samples, such as surface hardness, improved after the application of ethyl silicate-based stone strengthener. On the other hand, the spacing of interlayer of swelling clay minerals decreased and spacing of laminae layer increased. When the ethyl silicate-based stone strengthener was applied after pretreatment with a swelling inhibitor, interlayer and spacing of laminae changes were similar to those when only the stone strengthener was treated. The effect of the swelling inhibitor was almost negligible. When the rocks that have been conserved with chemicals react with water, spacing of laminae has widened much, whereas when the rocks was in contact with moisture only, there was little change. In addition, if it is placed in the outdoor after conservation treatment, although it occurs slightly slower than the untreated rock, the separation of the lamination layer and the pulverization of the rock occur within a very short time. Consolidation is required to improve the physical properties of fossil rock, but when exposed to rain and undergoing freeze-thaw process, the effect is lost very quickly. Therefore, regardless of the chemical treatment, it is a priority to prevent direct rainfall contact with the rock.
Centrifuge model tests were used to simulate pile-raft composite foundation and pile-geogrid composite foundation with different pile spacing for researching the time effect of negative skin friction of rigid piles in high-speed railways. The research results show that the negative skin friction has a significant impact on the bearing capacity of composite foundation. Pile-raft composite foundation has higher bearing capacity compared to pile-geogrid composite foundation to reduce the effect of negative skin friction on piles. Both the foundation settlement and negative skin friction have significant time effect. The distribution of skin friction can be simplified as a triangle along the pile. The neutral point position moves deeper in the postconstruction stage at larger pile spacing. For pile-geogrid composite foundation, the setting of pile-cap affects the position of neutral point in the post-construction stage. Reinforced cushion with geotextile may promote the better performance of cushion for transmitting the loads to piles and surrounding soils. Arching effect in the cushion of the composite foundation is a progressive process. The compression of the rigid piles contributes less than 20% to 25% of the total settlement while the penetration of the piles and the compression of the bearing stratum below the pile tips contribute more than 70% of the total settlement. Some effective measures to reduce the settlement of soils need to be taken into consideration to improve the bearing capacity of pile foundation.

In order to determine the optimum planting density of Perilla frutescens which is suitable for the southern part of Korea, agronomic characters, yield of fresh stem, leaf and seed, and yield components were investigated grown in 1985 and 1986 at Mokpo Branch Station of Crop Experiment Station. The heading date was Aug. $14{\sim}15$ and the blooming period was Aug. $19{\sim}21$ regardless of the difference of plant density, but the longest stem length was 135cm in the plant density of $70{\time}40cm$ and the stem length in the plant density of $80{\time}40cm$ was 134cm. The quantity of fresh weight of stem and leaf and fresh weight of seed was high as 531kg/l0a in the plant density of $80{\time}40cm$. The positive correlation such as $0.7315^*,\;0.9024^{**}\;and\;0.7425^*$ were found between stem length and fresh weight of stem and leaf, stem length and fresh weight of seed, fresh weight of stem and leaf and fresh weight of seed and so high significance was recongnized. In the verification of significance of row spacing, the disperse of the stem length was $55.67^{**}$, that of fresh weight of stem and leaf is $268.50^*$, theat of fresh weight of seed was $16.00^{**}$ and high significance was recognized. In the verification of significance of intrarow spacing, the diperse of stem length was $54.21^{**}$, that of fresh weight of stem and leaf was $2,582.00^{**}$, that of fresh weight of seed was $48.00^{**}$ and then high significance was recognized. Accordingly, the proper plant density of perilla frutescens was 80cm of row $spacing{\time}40cm$ of intrarow spacing.

The large scaled field test by prefabricated vertical drains was performed to evaluate the superiority of vertical discharge capacity for drain materials through compare and analyze the time-settlement behavior with drain spacing and the compression index and consolidation coefficient obtained by laboratory experiments and field monitoring system. 1. The relation of measurement settlement($S_m$) versus design settlement($S_t$) and measurement consolidation ratio($U_m$) versus design consolidation ratio($U_t$) were shown $S_m=(1.0{\sim}1.1)S_t$, $U_m=(1.13{\sim}1.17)U_t$ at 1.0m drain spacing and $S_m=(0.7{\sim}0.8)S_t$, $U_m=(0.92{\sim}0.99)U_t$ at l.5m drain spacing, respectively. 2. The relation of field compressing index($C_{cfield}$) and virgin compression index($V_{cclab.}$) was shown $C_{cfield}=(1.0{\sim}1.2)V_{cclab.}$, But it was nearly same value when considered the error with determination method of virgin compression index and prediction method of total settlement. 3. Field consolidation coefficient was larger than laboratory consolidation coefficient, and the consolidation coefficient ratio($C_h/C_v$) were $C_h=(2.4{\sim}3.0)C_v$. $C_h=(3.5{\sim}4.3)C_v$ at 1.0m and 1.5m drain spacing and increased with increasing of drain spacing. 4. The evaluation of vertical discharge capacity with drain spacing from the results of the consolidation coefficient ratio showed largely superior in case the Mebra drain and Amer drain than other drain materials at 1.0m and 1.5m drain spacing, while the values showed nearly same value in case same drain spacing.

In this Paper, we proposed the method for the TIT (Theoretical Inter-arrival Time) was suggested in which it saves the cells by using the data buffer in the system rather than by using one separately from the internal controller, and it also releases these cells saved. The method of TIT complements the defect of the accumulation of the delay in the method of RDT which considers the time of the cell that is discharged from the established cell interval controller. And, in order to apply the merit of RDT, the method of TIT sets its standards on the cells arrival time as it was in the method of RAT.
The effects of drum spacing, steam pressure and drum speed on drying rate of minced fish flesh on both single and double drum dryers were studied. Starch additions in the form of tapioca flour up to 2.5% have been found satisfactory for aiding in sheet formation at the doctor blade. When the retention time was adjusted to maintain a constant product moisture, the highest production rate was obtained at the smallest drum spacing and the highest steam pressure within the limits of experimental conditions considered. The operating conditions suitable for producing the flakes with 5% moisture were: 100 kPa (steam pressure), 0.1 mm (drum spacing) and 3 rpm (drum speed). The production rate and overall heat transfer coefficient under these conditions were $12.1\;kg/m^2$hr and 950 $W\;/m^2K$ respectively. The drying data were fitted well to the conventional drying model, namely $MR\;=\;A\;\exp\;(-k{\theta})$, resulting in the various drying constants depending the operating conditions.
