  • The gain stability of the nuclear pulse ampifiers with negative feedback for such a fast pulse input as the step voltge or the nuclear radiation detector pulse is analyzed in detail and the experimental results are given. It is shown that a few risetime should elapse to get the full effect of the negative feedback upon the liearity and the stability of the amplifiers for the fast pulse input, and to reduce this limitation the risetime of the negative feedback amplifier must be designed to be short compared with the width of the input pulse.

  • Global and local behaviors of a lightly RC shear walls are investigated in this paper. For the sake of cyclic behaviors, nominal ground accelerations of 0.15 g, 0.40 g and 0.55 g which associated with natural periods of the walls are applied as listed in French CAMUS-2000 shake table test. Modified Kent & Park model, Drucker-Prager model for concrete material and $Giufr\acute{e}$-Menegotto-Pinto model for rebar are used for time history analyses using fiber/solids elements respectively. Alternatively, Eulerian beam analysis are discussed by imposing inelastic hinges at the most possible plastic hinge location using modified Takeda's trilinear model with stiffness reduction. Relative displacements, base shears, bending moments of 5-story shear building with 36-tons of mass under bi-lateral seismic excitation are extracted and compared with EC-8, PS-92 and KBC-09 provisions. Multi-scaled degradation process; material damage, elemental fracture and structural failure in turn is discussed in the view of numerical accuracy, efficiency and limitation depending on three different model-based analyses.

  • In this paper are presented kinematic and dynamic modeling and path-tracking of four-wheeled mobile robots with 2 d.o.f haying the limited drive-torques. Controllability of wheeled-mobile robots is revealed by the kinematic model. Instantaneously coincident coordinate system, force/torque propagation and Newton's equilibrium law are used to drive the dynamic model. When drive-torques generated by inverse dynamics exceed the limitation, we make wheeled-mobile robots follow the reference path by modifying the planned reference trajectory with time-scaling. The controller is introduced to compensate for error owing to modeling uncertainty and measurement noise. And simulation results prove that method proposed by this paper is efficient.

  • Spectral analysis is an important signal processing tool for time series data. The transformation of a time series into the frequency domain is the basis for a significant number of processing algorithms and interpretive methods. Recently developed transforms based on the new mathematical field of wavelet analysis bypass the resolution limitation and offer superior spectral decomposition. The discrete wavelet transform of Sonar data provides spectral localization of noises, hence noises can be filtered out successfully.

  • The purpose of this study was to Investigate about current status of authentic science performance assessment in elementary schools. A total of 707 elementary teachers was involved and the data from questionnaire was gathered. The questionnaire was comprised two categories: items on the epistemological aspect & items on the actual condition. The major findings are as follows: 1. There are some elementary teachers who don't have a clear understanding on what authentic science performance assessment is even though most of teachers admit the importance of authentic performance assessment in their science teaching. 2. Malty teachers have chosen and have used experimental activities or performance tasks rather than they have developed tasks of their own. 3. Malty teachers have pointed out 'tile lack of time for performance assessment preparation' and 'the limitation of class time' as tile problems of working on science performance assessment in elementary schools.

  • As flexible manufacturing technology has become available across a broad range of applications, an increasingly large number of firms have confronted decisions about when to adopt the FMS technology and the size of FMS at that time. For small to medium size firms that should invest under budget limitation and high investment risk, proper size of FMS adoption at proper time is very important. In this paper the discrete optimal control theory has been used to make decisions about the size and timing of FMS capacity expansion over a planning period. Sensitivity analysis is presented for analysing the behavior of the model to variations of model parameters.

  • It is important to minimize the number of disk accesses which is necessary to transfer data in disk into main memory when processing transactions in physical database design. A vertical file partitioning method is used to reduce the number of disk accesses by partitioning relations vertically and accessing only necessay fragments. In this paper, SOFM(Self-Organizing Feature Maps) network is used to solve vertical partitioning problems. This paper shows that SOFM network is efficient in solving vertical partitioning problem by comparing approximate solution of SOFM network with optimal solution of N-ary branch and bound method. And this paper presents a heuristic algorithm for allocating duplicate attributes to vertically partitioned fragments. As branch and bound method requires particularly much computing time to solve large-sized problems, it is shown that SOFM network is able to overcome this limitation of branch and bound method and solve large-sized problems efficiently in a short time.

  • Recently, the analysis of power systems is transfering from analytical techniques to simulation because it is difficult to analyze accurately the phenomena occured in complicated and huge power systems. Digital computers are used popularly to analyze the phenomena of power systems. But real-time simulators were used due to the limitation of digital computer - real time analysis, non-linearity and so on - and rapid development of digital technologies. In this paper, we discuss the advanced foreign power system simulators and the conceptual designs for the KEPCO power system simulator have been drawn for the domestic development.

  • The limitation of flow control for a bistable fluidic valve has been investigated. The physical model of the fluidic valve includes two main flow outlets and two control flow inlets. The experiments were conducted with pressure regulators, mass flow meters, and piezo sensors to analyze flow switching characteristics of the fluidic valve. The experimental data such as pressure and mass flow rate of control flows and the switching time of the main flow was obtained with various operating conditions. The operation limit of the fluidic valve is identified, and a model equation for pre-estimating the minimum control pressure to switch the direction of the main flow has been proposed.

  • Recognition systems for scanned or printed music scores that have been implemented on personal computers have received attention from numerous scientists and have achieved significant results over many years. A modern trend with music scores being captured and played directly on mobile devices has become more interesting to researchers. The limitation of resources and the effects of illumination, distortion, and inclination on input images are still challenges to these recognition systems. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach for recognizing music scores captured by mobile cameras. To reduce the complexity, as well as the computational time of the system, we grouped all of the symbols extracted from music scores into ten main classes. We then applied each major class to SVM to classify the musical symbols separately. The experimental results showed that our proposed method could be applied to real time applications and that its performance is competitive with other methods.
