  • In the multi-purpose lathe, the design of tilting turret slide system has an important and critical role to enhance the accuracy of the machining process. Tilting turret unit is traveled by 3-axis slide systems. There is a need to design this part very carefully. In this research, the 3-axis slide system with tilting turret unit is modeled and simulated using ADAMS software. The dynamic behavior of this system is visualized by data graphs and dynamic animations. The first step of virtual prototype which makes it possible to design economically and effectively is developed.

  • In multi-purpose lathe, the design of tilting turret slide system has an important and critical role to enhance accuracy of the machining process. Tilting turret unit is traveled by 3-axis slide systems. There is a need to design this part very carefully. In this research, 3-axis sliding system with tilting turret unit is modeled by considering the element dividing, material proprties, and boundary conditions with PATRAN. Normal mode and frequency analysis of each structures such as saddle, cared, and turret are simulated by NASTRAN, for the purpose of developing the effective design. The results of mode analysis and frequency analysis are visualized with PATRAN, and the design method which can solve the resornance problem by eigenvalues and eigenvectors of each axis is developed as well.

In this research, the 3-axis slide system with tilting turret unit is researched with two approaches; The first is that 3-axis slide system is modeled and simulated using ADAMS software. The dynamic behavior of this system is visualized by data graphs and dynamic animations. The second is that the slide system is analyzed with the aspect of stress distribution. The slide system is modeled and displayed by PATRAN and analyzed by NASTRAN. The analysis of strain and stress distribution in the each node is prompted and visualized in the computer. The first step of virtual prototype which makes it possible to design economically and effectively is developed.

  • In this paper we propose contents and results on installation and commissioning test for ATP on-board unit, which has propelled as one of the research projects, so called, "Reliability assessment and operation technology development for Korean-type tilting trains" in order to ensure the safety and operation efficiency of tilting trains. In KRRI, we have developed tilting trains for the speed-up of existing lines and for the passenger service improvement where the KTX is not available. And we also make progress the operation trial test at the speed of 10km with the use of ATS units, used in existing lines, for the purpose of the reliability assessment of the developed tilting trains. In MLTM, they have decided to accelerate the speed at more than 200km/h for the 7 existing lines including Jungang-line and Chungbuk-line where KTX has not operated. According to this decision, Train control system is to be changed from ATS to ATP. We should install an ATP on-board unit in tilting trains and verify the operational suitability. Therefore, we have installed and tested the same ATP on-board unit on tilting trains that used in the ATP construction project on Gyeongbu-line and Honam-line.

  • In this paper, as the step to assess and enhance the reliability of Korean Tilting Train eXpress (T.T.X), Door system is selected and reliability analysis is carried out. The door system is classified into subsystems and functional block diagrams and reliability block diagrams are drawn.Expessions for evaluating the reliability are derived and Mean Kilometer between Service Failure is calculated using the trial track test results. The calculation result show reliability growth of proposed system. This paper developed RAMS to make a door system of T.T.X. (Tilting Train eXpress) with maximum operation speed of 180 km/h.

  • This paper suggested that the technical specification of tilting train EMU for speed up on existing lines. High speed strategy of existing lines are the modification of railway system which are made on cant, lengths of transition curves, the catenary system and train system. Tilting technology is more useful a strategy for speed increases on existing lines with low investment needed. We performed a feasibility study which is considered out real track conditions and designed propulsion and braking system of tilting EMU system.
