The control system architecture in switching systems have undergone numerous changes to provide various call processing capability needed in telecommunication services. During call processing in a distributed switching control environment, the delay effect due to communication among main processors or peripheral controllers is one of the limiting factors which affect the system performance. In this paper, we propose a performance model for an IPC(Inter Processor Communication) interface hardware block which is required on the ATM cell-based message processing in a distributed ATM exchange system, and analyze the primary causes which affect the processor performance through the simulation. Consequently, It can be shown that the local CPU of the several components(resources) related to the IPC scheme is a bottleneck factor in achieving the maximum system performance from the simulation results, such as the utilization of each processing component according to the change of the input message rate, and the queue length and processing delay according to input message rate. And we also give some useful results such as the maximum message processing capacity according to the change of the performance of local CPU, and the local CPU maximum throughput according to the change of average message length, which is applicable as a reference data for the improvement or expansion of the ATM control system.

As the clock frequency increases, CPU performance improves continuously. However, power and thermal problems in the CPU become more serious as the clock frequency increases. For this reason, utilizing the GPU to reduce the workload of the CPU becomes one of the most popular methods in recent high-performance computer systems. The GPU is a specialized processor originally designed for graphics processing. Recently, the technologies such as CUDA which utilize the GPU resources more easily become popular, leading to the improved performance of the computer system by utilizing the CPU and GPU simultaneously in executing various kinds of applications. In this work, we analyze the temperature and the energy efficiency of the computer system where the CPU and the GPU are utilized simultaneously, to figure out the possible problems in upcoming high-performance computer systems. According to our experimentation results, the temperature of both CPU and GPU increase when the application is executed on the GPU. When the application is executed on the CPU, CPU temperature increases whereas GPU temperature remains unchanged. The computer system shows better energy efficiency by utilizing the GPU compared to the CPU, because the throughput of the GPU is much higher than that of the CPU. However, the temperature of the system tends to be increased more easily when the application is executed on the GPU, because the GPU consumes more power than the CPU.
Korea is the fifth largest producer of automobiles in the world, and this industry accounts for the highest portion of the entire manufacturing industry. It is an especially important industry occupying second place in the top 10 export items in Korea. Korea exports about 3 million units of cars produced in the country and abroad, based on new cars and excluding second hand cars. Japan, along with Korea, represents a high portion of the global automobile industry, and it exports more than 4 million cars to the rest of the world. In particular, both Korea and Japan export automobile and used cars produced within the country, almost all of them by PCC(Pure Car Carrier) or PCTC(Pure Car Truck Carrier). Therefore, automobile export ports are located near automobile factories, and are being used in export to foreign countries. However, there are inefficient problems, such as poor port facilities, yard space shortage for loading and unloading operations and lack of proficiency of cargo handling companies. As a result, there are delays in cargo operations, or ships waiting have occurred. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to measure and compare the efficiency of automobile export ports in Korea and Japan. To measure the efficiency of automobile export port, we used CRS and VRS models from DEA. The input and output parameters were set as length of quay, yard area and throughput of cars, and DMUs are 25 ports for evaluating the efficiency. As a result of the efficiency measurements, two Korean ports (Gwangyang and Ulsan) and three Japanes ports (Kanda, Omaezaki, Kanmon-Shimonoseki) showed high efficiency in both models. These results can be used to establish strategies for enhancing efficiency and competitiveness of automobile export ports in Korea and Japan.
Background: Patients with differentiated thyroid cancers (DTC) who receive radioactive iodine-131 (RAI) are released from isolation when their dose rate is below the regulatory requirements. The purpose of this study was establish predicting factors for early release from the isolation facility after RAI administration in patients with DTC. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective study which included 96 (58 females and 38 males) patients with DTC who had received RAI from April 2013 till August 2015. The study was duly approved by the ethical committee of the institute. Patients who had complete information of primary tumor size (PTS), serum TSH, stimulated thyroglobulin level [sTg] with antibodies (IU/ml) at the time of RAI treatment were included. All had a normal serum creatinine level. To attain lower effective half-life good hydration and administration of soft laxative were ensured. Dose rate was measured (immediately, 24 h and 36 h) at 1 meter distance from anterior mid trunk and a dose rate <$50{\mu}Sv/h$ was considered as the releasing criterion. At 24 h 50 patients were released while the remaining 46 patients were released at 36 h. A post-ablative whole body scan (PA-WBIS) was performed 5-8 days after RAI ablation in all patients. Results: Patients released after 24 h were significantly younger, had smaller lesions with higher proportion of papillary cancer, lower sTg, lower sTg/TSH ratio and had received a lower dose of RAI as comapred to those who were discharged after 36 h. Serum TSH and gender were not found to have any significant correlation between two cohorts. ROC and multivariate analysis have shown age ${\leq}37years$, PTS ${\leq}3.8cm$, $RAI{\leq}150mCi$, $sTg{\leq}145ng/ml$ and $sTg/TSH{\leq}1.085$ as strong indepedent predictors for early release. Conclusions: We conclude that younger age (${\leq}37years$), smaller tumor size (${\leq}3.8cm$), lower RAI dose (${\leq}150mCi$), lower sTg (${\leq}145ng/ml$) and a lower sTg/TSH ratio (${\leq}1.085$) are significant independent predictors for release at 24 h after RAI treatment in DTC patients. Effective utilization of these factors could help the treating physicians to use limited number of internment facilities with higher throughput, lower cost and lower psychological stress to patients.
Objective: An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of L-arginine (L-Arg) and N-carbamoylglutamic acid (NCG) on the growth, metabolism, immunity and community of cecal bacterial flora of weanling and young rabbits. Methods: Eighteen normal-grade male weanling Japanese White rabbits (JWR) were selected and randomly divided into 6 groups with or without L-Arg and NCG supplementation. The whole feeding process was divided into weanling stage (day 37 to 65) and young stage (day 66 to 85). The effects of L-Arg and NCG on the growth, metabolism, immunity and development of the ileum and jejunum were compared via nutrient metabolism experiments and histological assessment. The different communities of cecal bacterial flora affected by L-Arg and NCG were assessed using high-throughput sequencing technology and bioinformatics analysis. Results: The addition of L-Arg and NCG enhanced the growth of weanling and young rabbit by increasing the nitrogen metabolism, protein efficiency ratio, and biological value, as well as feed intake and daily weight gain. Both L-Arg and NCG increased the concentration of immunoglobulin A (IgA), IgM, and IgG. NCG was superior to L-Arg in promoting intestinal villus development by increasing villus height, villus height/crypt depth index, and reducing the crypt depth. The effects of L-Arg and NCG on the cecal bacterial flora were mainly concentrated in different genera, including Parabacteroides, Roseburia, dgA-11_gut_group, Alistipes, Bacteroides, and Ruminococcaceae_UCG-005. These bacteria function mainly in amino acid transport and metabolism, energy production and conversion, lipid transport and metabolism, recombination and repair, cell cycle control, cell division, and cell motility. Conclusion: L-Arg and NCG can promote the growth and immunity of weanling and young JWR, as well as effecting the jejunum and ileum villi. L-Arg and NCG have different effects in the promotion of nutrient utilization, relieving inflammation and enhancing adaptability through regulating microbial community.
From the beginning of 1990s , also in the shipping industry, especially liner shipping industry competition has been more intensive and difference of the service quality among shipping companies has been learned . On the other hand, a shipping company has some limitations to do its international mission for itself just by broadening service area. For this reason, the necessity for the global strategi alliance among the shipping companies, which is orginally aimed at sharing of facilities and organixation, has been developed. Through strategic alliance, liner shipping companies do not need to input the additional capitals to increase the material assets such as vessel capacity and spread the risk by the enlargement of the market. Also, they can secure the competitive edge through efficient utilizaton of assets. The purpose of strategic alliance of Hanjin Shipping Ltd., can be summarized as follows ; broadening of service area, cost reduction through vessel sharing, realization of rationalized shipping service by terminal and equipment or facilities sharing. Liner strategic alliances are agreement among liner companies to pol their equipment , andterminals for joint operations and services in which each alliance partner continues to serve its market using jointly operated or used inland feeders, inland terminals, port terminals, and mainline fleets of ship as well as joint pools of containers and equipment. Strategic alliances are generally more formal agreements than consortia and impose longer term and far reaching obligation on their members. It also acts as one in developing and advancing the strategic aims of the alliance members. The most important objective for liner strategic alliances is cost reduction and improvement in capital asset utilization. Main aims of strategic alliance drawn in this paper, can be enumerated follows : 1. improvements in service frequency and quality : 2. improvements in vessel and equipment utilization and thereby reductions in fixed and variable cost ; 3. improvements in market shares and high value cargo booking ; 4. reductions in intermodal storage and port terminal throughput costs ; 5. improvements in negotiating powers with ports and feeder transport providers ; 6. reduction in financial and other fixed costs such as insurance; 7. coordination and integration of MIS and EDI systems and service for greater efficiency and market penetration ; and, 8. improvements in logistic chain management and economic of scale by equipment depot, terminal, and vessel sharing.
Amount of the web traffic web server handles are explosively increasing, which requires that the performance of the web server should be improved for the various web services. Although the analysis for the HTTP traffic with the proper tuning for the web server is essential, the research relevant to the subject are insignificant. In particular, although most of applications are implemented over HTTP 1.1 protocol, the researches mostly deal with the performance evaluation of the HTTP 1.0 protocol. Consequently, the modeling approach and the performance evaluation over HTTP 1.1 protocol have not been well formed. Therefore, basing on the HTTP 1.1 protocol supporting persistent connection, we present an analytical end-to-end tandem queueing model for web server to consider the specific hardware configuration inside web server beginning at accepting the user request until completing the service. we compare various performances between HTTP 1.0 and HTTP 1.1 under the overloading condition, and then analyze the characteristics of the HTTP traffic that include file size requested to web server, the OFF time between file transfers, the frequency of requests, and the temporal locality of requests. Presented model is verified through the comparing the server throughput according to varying requests rate with the real web server. Thereafter, we analyze the performance evaluation of the web server, according to the interrelation between TCP Listen queue size, the number of HTTP threads and the size of the network buffers.
Spectrophotometric determination of U(VI) and Th(IV) by Flow injection method is described. Chrome Azurol S forms water soluble complexes with U(VI) and Th(IV) in the presence of cethyltrimethylammonium bromide. The maximum adsorption of U(VI) and Th(IV) complexes are at 600nm with molar absorptivity of $2.3{\times}10^5Lmol^{-1}cm^{-1}$ and 611nm with molar absorptivity of $3.8{\times}10^5Lmol^{-1}cm^{-1}$ in acetate buffer medium having pH 5.0 and 5.5. The calibration curves of U(VI) and Th(IV) are linear over the range of 0.1~0.8ppm and the correlation coefficients are ca. 0.9960 and 0.9930 respectively. The detection limits(S/N) are 20ppb for U(VI) and 15ppb for Th(IV). The relative standard deviation are ${\pm}1.8%$ for U(VI) and ${\pm}2.1%$ for Th(IV). The sample throughput was ca. $50hr^{-1}$.
Nanoimprint lithography (NIL) is a novel method of fabricating nanometer scale patterns. It is a simple process with low cost, high throughput and resolution. NIL creates patterns by mechanical deformation of an imprint resist and physical contact process. The imprint resist is typically a monomer or polymer formulation that is cured by heat or UV light during the imprinting process. Stiction between the resist and the stamp is resulted from this physical contact process. Stiction issue is more important in the stamps including narrow pattern size and wide area. Therefore, the antistiction layer coating is very effective to prevent this problem and ensure successful NIL. In this paper, an antistiction layer was deposited and characterized by PECVD (plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition) method for metal stamps. Deposition rates of an antistiction layer on Si and Ni substrates were in proportion to deposited time and 3.4 nm/min and 2.5 nm/min, respectively. A 50 nm thick antistiction layer showed 90% relative transmittance at 365 nm wavelength. Contact angle result showed good hydrophobicity over 105 degree. $CF_2$ and $CF_3$ peaks were founded in ATR-FTIR analysis. The thicknesses and the contact angle of a 50 nm thick antistiction film were slightly changed during chemical resistance test using acetone and sulfuric acid. To evaluate the deposited antistiction layer, a 50 nm thick film was coated on a stainless steel stamp made by wet etching process. A PMMA substrate was successfully imprinting without pattern degradations by the stainless steel stamp with an antistiction layer. The test result shows that antistiction layer coating is very effective for NIL.
A compact adsorption-based process for removal of carbon dioxide and nitrogen from natural gas has been discussed. Among the adsorption-based processes, especially, the pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process has been a suitable unit operation for the purification and separation of gas because of low operation energy and cost. A step cycle is made up of pressurization, feed, equalization, blowdown and rinse. In this work, the PSA process is composed of zeolite 13X and carbon molecular sieve (CMS) for removal of carbon dioxide and nitrogen from mixed gas containing $CH_4/CO_2/N_2$ (75:21:4 vol%). A CMS selectively removes carbon dioxide and a zeolite 13X separates nitrogen from methane. CMS is investigated experimentally due to the high throughput of the faster diffusing component ($CO_2$). The gas composition of top, bottom and feed tank was measured with the gas chromatography (GC) using TCD detector, helium as carrier gas and packed column for analysis of methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen.
