In this work we have managed to find parameters for defining athlete's aerobic and anaerobic thresholds. Thresholds which are of vital importance for top athletes. It is shown how differential evolution and different similarity measures has been used to tune computational model for threshold definitions. From our results it is obvious that the use of right parameter values for this kind expert system is of vital importance.
In this paper, we present a new multiple description embedded zerotree wavelet coding method using the two splitted thresholds. We first model a half EZW coder and then we present multiple description coder which has two coding channels using wide threshold EZW(WTEZW) coders. To evaluate the performance of the proposed coder, we provide an image coding applications with two descriptions and compare MDC image coding results reported to date.
We consider a single channel CSMA/CD system with D homogeneous stations and impeded buffer of infinite size. We find a sufficient condition for the model to be stable under the threshold control policy and derive the limiting distri-bution of the number of messages in the system at the moment of service completion. We also derive the limiting distributing of the number of messages in the system size at arbitrary time by using Markov regenerative processes. Some numerical examples and special cases are also treated.
In 1952, British physiologists Hodgkin and Huxley [4] derived a model that describes the conduction of the nervous impulse in the optical nerve of a squid. The mathematical analysis of the Hodgkin-Huxley equations is technically very difficult, because of the complicated nonlinear functions in the equations. In the early 1960's FitzHugh and Nagumo [2], [9] derived a simpler formulation which retains most of the qualitative features of the original system, and yet is more amenable to analytical manipulations.
We consider an MMPP/G/1/K finite queue with two-level threshold overload control. This model has frequently arisen in the design of the integrated communication systems which support a wide range applications having various Quality of Service(QoS) requirements. Through the supplementary variable method, se derive the queue length distribution.
Temperature change has been shown to affect daily mortality even though different analytical methods produce different results. The effect of air pollution on the relationship between the temperature and the mortality is not large, although differences exist between temperature models. The aim of this study was to examine how the temperature change affected the daily mortality in Seoul by comparing the results from the temperature model using two study periods: one from 1994 to 2007 and the other from 1997 to 2007. Generally mean temperature, minimum temperature and Q10 temperature was derived as an optimal model, even though there are differences between age and cause of death. The analysis of threshold using total mortalities in all ages from 1994 to 2007 and from 1997 to 2007 showed that the number of the deaths increased 7.02% (95% CI: 6.06~7.98) and 2.51% (95% CI: 1.83~3.19), respectively as the mean temperature increased $1^{\circ}C$ from a threshold temperature of $27.5^{\circ}C$ and $25.7^{\circ}C$ respectively. These results indicated that the temperature has less effect on the number of death than does an extreme heat wave period.

Threshold voltage ($V_{th}$) modeling of doublegate (DG) MOSFETs was performed, for the first time, by considering barrier lowering in the short channel devices. As the gate length of DG MOSFETs scales down, the overlapped charge-sharing length ($x_h$) in the channel which is related to the barrier lowering becomes very important. A fitting parameter ${\delta}_w$ was introduced semi-empirically with the fin body width and body doping concentration for higher accuracy. The $V_{th}$ model predicted well the $V_{th}$ behavior with fin body thickness, body doping concentration, and gate length. Our compact model makes an accurate $V_{th}$ prediction of DG devices with the gate length up to 20-nm.
This paper investigates the impact of ethanol mandate on the price relationship between corn and beef using the monthly time-series data from January 2003 through December 2013. In addition, we examine the non-linearity in ethanol, corn, and beef markets. Based on the threshold cointegration test, we find the symmetric relationship in pairs with ethanol production-corn price and ethanol production-beef price whereas there is the asymmetric relationship between prices of corn and beef. Employing the threshold vector error correction and vector error correction models, we also find that the corn price in the U.S is caused by both ethanol production and beef price in a long-run when the beef price is relatively high. On the other hand, the corn price does not cause both ethanol production and beef price in the long run. Findings from this study imply that demanders for corn such as ethanol and beef producers have price leadership on corn producers.

This paper proposes a decision support model for USVs to improve the accuracy of collision avoidance decision-making. It is formed by Navigation Safety Domain (NSD) and domain-based Collision Risk Index (CRI), capable of determining the collision stage and risk between multiple ships. The NSD is composed of a warning domain and a forbidden domain, which is constructed under the constraints of COLREGs (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea). The proposed domain based CRI takes the radius of NSD in various encounter situations as threshold parameters. It is found that the value of collision risk in any directions can be calculated, including actual value and risk threshold. A catamaran USV and 6 given vessels are taken as study objects to validate the proposed model. It is found that the judgment of collision stage is accurate and the azimuth range of risk exists can be detected, hence the ships can take direct and effective collision avoidance measures. According to the relation between the actual value of CRI and risk threshold, the decision support rules are summarized, and the specific terms of COLREGs to be followed in each encounter situation are given.
Objectives: The deaths of Korean victims exposed to the disinfectant CMIT/MIT have remained unresolved. This is mainly due to a lack of concordance between the few available toxicity tests and the abundant epidemiological data, making it difficult to establish a cause-and-effect relationship. Therefore, this study was carried out to investigate any potential associations between CMIT/MIT exposure and death. Methods: Groups of experimental and control C57BL/6 mice were instilled (in the trachea) with chloromethylisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone (CMIT/MIT) using a visual instillobot. CMIT/MIT was instilled over a period of three days and eight weeks, respectively, to achieve acute and chronic exposures. A threshold dose-response model was applied for estimating the threshold level as one line of evidence for a causal association between CMIT/MIT and death. Results: An acute exposure of 1.2 mg ai/kg/day of CMIT/MIT was estimated to reflect the threshold for death. The dose-response curve with this threshold showed a very steep slope and a narrow range of CMIT/MIT exposures. The narrow range of CMIT/MIT exposures, in particular, indicated an evident boundary between survival and death, thus implicating a strong causal association. A similar threshold dose-response relationship observed following acute exposure was also seen following chronic exposure to CMIT/MIT. Airborne disinfectant exposure was visible as minimal or mild lung damage with no fibrosis, as shown by histopathological tests. However, many observations are considered to be functional respiratory tract or lung failure due to death, as observed in necropsies of the mice that died due to CMIT/MIT exposures. Conclusions: There are two strong lines of evidence for a causal association between death and CMIT/MIT exposure: 1) The threshold dose-response curve, with a very steep slope and a narrow range of CMIT/MIT exposures showing a visible boundary between survival and death; and 2) many cases of functional respiratory or lung failure.
