A parallel-feeding AC traction power system increases the power supply capacity and decreases voltage fluctuations, but the circulating power flow caused by the phase difference between the traction substations prevents the system from being widely used. A circuit analysis shows that the circulating power flow increases almost linearly as the phase difference increases, which adds extra load to the system and results in increased power dissipation and load unbalance. In this paper, we suggest a phase shifter for the parallel-feeding AC traction power system. The phase shifter regulates the phase difference and the circulating power flow by injecting quadrature voltage which can be obtained directly from the Scott-connection transformer in the traction substation. A case study involving the phase shifter applied to the traction power system of a Korean high-speed rail system shows that a three-level phase shifter can prevent circulating power flow while the phase difference between substations increases up to 12 degrees, mitigate the load unbalance, and reduce power dissipation.
This paper introduces an advanced three-phase load flow analysis algorithm in the radial distribution network. This method is an extension of the Novel method for solving radial distribution networks with the emphasis on expanding from single phase to three-phase. The proposed method involves only simple algebraic computation without any form of Jacobian matrix but has a desirable convergence characteristic. Computationally, The suggested technique is very efficient and requires less computer memory storage and maintains high execution speed. Also, the submitted process can be easily programmed and be simply extended to different types of load characteristics. A simulation results applied to the IEEE 34 bus radial distribution feeder are examined by using the MATLAB.
Single-phase and three-phase load can be used together in 3-phase 4-wire system. Single-phase and three-phase loads can be classified as linear loads without harmonics and nonlinear with harmonics. Single-phase linear loads are linear loads such as lamps and heat, and single-phase nonlinear loads are power converters such as rectifiers. It is recommended that the distribution of loads in the 3-phase, 4-wire distribution lines be evenly distributed within a certain range. However, harmonic currents generated in a nonlinear load flow on the neutral line and affect the phase current magnitude. The difference in the magnitude of the individual phase current due to the influence of the harmonic current present in the neutral line can produce a difference in current and load unbalance. In this study, current unbalance ratio and load unbalance ratio which can occur when a combination of linear and nonlinear loads are applied to 3-phase 4-wire distribution line are calculated.
Traditionally, load flows have been calculated using the Gauss-Seidel and Newton-Raphson Method. DistFlow Method which is proposed by Wu and Baran is superior to the other two methods because it does not require the admittance matrix calculation to optimize the distribution system. This paper introduces a new alternative algorithm to the DistFlow Method which is slow and complex to find solutions as the number of lateral and sublateral increases. The proposed load flow method can construct System Jacobian easily. We can minimize the off-diagonal elements of the branch Jacobian and submatrices in the System Jacobian. Simulation results show that progressive performances of the proposed algorithm.
This paper presents a study on the assessment of fuzzy measure possibility for the electromagnetic field of unbalanced system. It takes into account m untransposed transmission line and unbalanced load. A three phase load flow program was developed which employs a Newton-Raphson method as a tool to analyze system unbalanced. This research presents a method of handling two coupled three phase transmission system unbalance analysis and unbalanced power demand as a function of voltages. In assessment of fuzzy measure possibility for the electromagnetic field, this paper use probability of fuzzy and measure of fuzziness technique.

Impact pressure due to sloshing is of great concern for the ship owners, designers and builders of the LNG carriers regarding the safety of LNG containment system and hull structure. Sloshing of LNG in partially filled tank has been an active area of research with numerous experimental and numerical investigations over the past decade. In order to accurately predict the sloshing impact load, a new numerical method was developed for accurate resolution of violent sloshing flow inside a three-dimensional LNG tank including wave breaking, jet formation, gas entrapping and liquid-gas interaction. The sloshing flow inside a membrane-type LNG tank is simulated numerically using the Finite-Analytic Navier-Stokes (FANS) method. The governing equations for two-phase air and water flows are formulated in curvilinear coordinate system and discretized using the finite-analytic method on a non-staggered grid. Simulations were performed for LNG tank in transverse and longitudinal motions including horizontal, vertical, and rotational motions. The predicted impact pressures were compared with the corresponding experimental data. The validation results clearly illustrate the capability of the present two-phase FANS method for accurate prediction of impact pressure in sloshing LNG tank including violent free surface motion, three-dimensional instability and air trapping effects.
In this paper, zero sequence equivalent circuit of Yg-Yg three phase core-type transformer is analyzed. Many problems by iron core structure of the three phase transformer due to asymmetric three phase lines, which includes line disconnection, ground fault, COS OFF, and unbalanced load are reported in the distribution system. To verify a feasibility of zero sequence impedance of Yg-Yg type three phase transformer, fault current generation in the three phase core and shell-type Yg-Yg transformer is compared by PSCAD/EMTDC when single line ground fault is occurred. As a result, shell-type transformer does not affect the flow of fault current, but core-type transformer generate an adverse effect by the zero sequence impedance. The adverse effect is explained by the zero sequence equivalent circuit of core-type transformer and Yg-Yg type three phase core-type transformer supplies a zero sequence fault current to the distribution system.
In the present study, a three-dimensional least square/level set based two-phase flow code was developed for the simulation of three-dimensional sloshing problems using finite element discretization. The present method can be utilized for the analysis of a free surface flow problem in a complex geometry due to the feature of FEM. Since the finite element method is employed for the spatial discretization of governing equations, an unstructured mesh can be naturally adopted for the level set simulation of a free surface flow without an additional load for the code development except that solution methods of the hyperbolic type redistancing and advection equations of the level set function should be devised in order to give a bounded solution on the unstructured mesh. From the numerical experiments of the present study, it is shown that the proposed method is both robust and accurate for the simulation of three-dimensional sloshing problems.
