  • Because the amount of radiation emerging from the thorax behind the lungs is often literally thousands of times that exiting behind the mediastinum, the dynamic range of X-ray chest image is very large. In order to solve the dynamic range problem, we propose a signal adaptive algorithm which enhances the local contrast and contracts the enhancement of quantum noise by local mean/valiance estimator.

  • We studied the characteristics of the compound electrode and found that the compound electrode provides the four-electrode method in a compact form. We developed a new method of measuring the skin impedance using simple electrodes at low frequencies. At high frequencies where the effect of internal tissue impedance is not negligible, we used the compensation method using compound electrodes since they measure the voltage right under the skin. At 50 kHz, we measured the real part of the skin impedance of less than $80\;{\Omega}$ on the thorax.

  • Thoracic Outlet syndrome is defined to compression of the subclavian vessels and brachial plexus at the superior aperture of the thorax. It was previously designed due to presumable etiologies such as scalenus anticus, costoclavicular, hyperabduction, cervical rib or first rib syndromes. We experienced a case of thoracic outlet syndrome[scalene anticus syndrome] .Patient has been suffered from swelling and numbness of the right forearm and hand for 2 years. Diagnosis was made by preoperative selective angiography. Scalenus anticus and medius muscle resction and first rib resection was done with transaxillary approach. Postoperative course was not eventful.

  • Lipomas are common tumors occuring mostly in the skin and subcutaneous tissue. This tumors are rare in the thorax. They frequently represent on incidental roentgengraphic finding or symptomes depending primarily on their location and size. The patient was 23-month-old male complained of fever and coughing. His chest X-ray and CT scan were revealed soft tissue density featured of pleural mass in the left lower hemithorax. And thoracotomy was performed for accurate diagnosis and treatment. So, experience of parietal pleural lipoma is reported here in.

  • Bronchogenic cysts are congenital and uncommon lesions which are derived from primitive forgut and usually found within the lung or mediastinum. The increased use of roentgenograms of the thorax and the widening scope of thoracic surgery, many more cases of bronchogenic cysts are being observed. Three cases of bronchogenic cysts operated in the department of thoracic surgery, C.A.F.G.H., are reported and the related literatures are reviewed.

  • Rhabdomyosarcoma is relatively rare in general pediatric population. Furthermore, the primary site in the thorax is one of the least sites. Because most patient, when first seen, are extensively advanced and bad in prognosis, an adequate work-up prior to any definitive therapy must be undertaken. Author experienced 2 cases of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma originating from chest wall. Both 2 cases are included in Group III [Rhabdomyosarcoma-Intergroup Protocol Grouping], one case is treated with radical surgery and radiation therapy, and the other case is treated with radiation therapy and chemotherapy. So author present 2 cases of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma with reference.

  • A 4-year-old male developed the esophageal perforation after air-gun shut injury in the thorax. The esophageal perforation was found on esophagogram at the next day after the accident. Because of delayed diagnosis, mediastinitis and pyopneumothorax were developed. The general conditions of the patient were very critical with sepsis on admission. Therefore, two staged operation was planned. At the first stage, exclusion and diversion of the esophagus was carried out to treat chemical pneumonitis due to gastric contents through the esophago-bronchial fistula by gastroesophageal reflux. Clinical conditions of the patient were improved after the first stage operation. At the second stage, the esophageal reconstruction with right colon was performed.

  • This is a case report of extralobar pulmonary sequestration with bronchogenic cyst located in aorto-pulmonary window area of left thorax in a 17 months old male patient. In this case, a bronchogenic cyst was presented immediately adjacent to the extralobar pulmonary sequestration. Communication between the extralobar pulmonary sequestration and bronchogenic cyst was not seen grossly or microscopically. The lesion was simply excised and the postoperatively course was uneventful.

  • Dogs are laid on their left sides (Puppies may be placed on their back). 1. Lift the right forelimb, insert the knife in the axillary region, and cut its muscular attachment to thorax. Reflect the limb dorsally until it lays flat on the table. 2. Lift the right hindlimb, cut the inguinal area skin and the adductor muscles, and disarticulate the coxofemoral joint. Reflect the limb dorsally until it lays flat on the table. 3. A midline skin incision is made from the symphysis of the mandible to the anus, circumventing the umbilicus and male external genitalia. • The pectus excavatum or funnel shaped thorax is a relatively frequent malformation of the chest wall which composed of depressed sternum and costal cartilage. The so-called sternal turnover operation for pectus excavatum has been disappointing due to postoperative complication such as fistula formation with necrosis of bone and muscle. Thus, the need of preserved vascular pedicle to sternum was stressed in this type of operation, keeping the bilateral internal mammary vessels preserved. We have experienced two cases of modified sternal turnover in children and obtained satisfactory postoperative results.
