In the recent decade, practical of wavelet technique is being utilized in various domain of science. Particularly, engineers are interested to the wavelet solution method in the time series analysis. Fundamentally, seismic responses of structures against time history loading such as an earthquake, illustrates optimum capability of systems. In this paper, a procedure using particularly discrete Haar wavelet basis functions is introduced, to solve dynamic equation of motion. In the proposed approach, a straightforward formulation in a fluent manner is derived from the approximation of the displacements. For this purpose, Haar operational matrix is derived and applied in the dynamic analysis. It's free-scaled matrix converts differential equation of motion to the algebraic equations. It is shown that accuracy of dynamic responses relies on, access of load in the first step, before piecewise analysis added to the technique of equation solver in the last step for large scale of wavelet. To demonstrate the effectiveness of this scheme, improved formulations are extended to the linear and nonlinear structural dynamic analysis. The validity and effectiveness of the developed method is verified with three examples. The results were compared with those from the numerical methods such as Duhamel integration, Runge-Kutta and Wilson-${\theta}$ method.

The model in our approach assumes that computer responses are a realization of a Gaussian processes superimposed on a regression model called a Gaussian process regression model (GPRM). Selecting a subset of variables or building a good reduced model in classical regression is an important process to identify variables influential to responses and for further analysis such as prediction or classification. One reason to select some variables in the prediction aspect is to prevent the over-fitting or under-fitting to data. The same reasoning and approach can be applicable to GPRM. However, only a few works on the variable selection in GPRM were done. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm to build a good prediction model among some GPRMs. It is a post-work of the algorithm that includes the Welch method suggested by previous researchers. The proposed algorithms select some non-zero regression coefficients (${\beta}^{\prime}s$) using forward and backward methods along with the Lasso guided approach. During this process, the fixed were covariance parameters (${\theta}^{\prime}s$) that were pre-selected by the Welch algorithm. We illustrated the superiority of our proposed models over the Welch method and non-selection models using four test functions and one real data example. Future extensions are also discussed.
Objectives : Though a proportion of Alzheimer's disease(AD) patients treated with donepezil have shown positive response on cognition, but the responders' characteristics are still uncertain. This study attempts to identify whether a single oral dose of donepezil(5mg) can change cognition and the relationship between single dose responder items and long-term responder are examined. Methods : Twenty-three AD patients for single donepezil challenge study group and eleven AD patients for controls were participated in the study. Seven days after baseline study for neuropsychological test and EEG, same studies were rechecked after donepezil medication in study group. In donepezil study groups, 12 weeks after donepezil medication, neuropsychological test and EEG were rechecked. Results : After single donepezil challenge, forward digit span, Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test copy, SVLT delayed recall were significantly improved, and beta spectra power in anterior, theta spectra power in posterior field were significantly decreased. According to linear regression analysis, forward digit span after single donepezil challenge was significantly positive correlated with long-term responders. Conclusions : This study suggests that single donepezil medication can significantly change cognitive functions and EEG in AD patients. Among these responsive items, forward digit span was significantly correlated with long-term responder.

Background: Although cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) is reported to have positive effects on mental functions such as depression and sleep improvement, detailed studies regarding awakening, attention and concentration among brain waves reflecting brain activity are lacking. Objective: To examine the effects of cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) on various electroencephalograms (EEGs) reflecting brain activities. Design: Randomized controlled clinical trial (single blind) Methods: This study selected 30 healthy adult women in their 20s who volunteered for this experiment. A total of 30 subjects were randomly assigned to three groups (Sham group, 0.5 Hz CES group, and 100 Hz CES group). EEGs were measured before and after the single CES, and the results were compared and analyzed. Results: The relative theta, alpha, and gamma waves indicated no significant differences in the interaction effects between time and group. The relative fast alpha wave only showed significant differences in the interaction effects between time and group in P4. The relative slow beta wave only indicated statistically significant differences in the interaction effects between time and group in T3 and T4. The relative mid and fast beta waves showed statistically significant differences in the interaction effects between time and group in all areas. Conclusions: These results suggest that a CES of 0.5 Hz awakens consciousness and has a positive influence on brain activity, while a CES of 100 Hz has a positive influence on thinking activity accompanying mental load during concentrating on one subject.

An accurate thick beam element (TB4) which includes the effects of the shear deformation and rotatory inertia has been degenerated from the three dimensional continuum by employing the Timoshenko beam assumptions. The proposed TB4 element has four nodes and two degrees of freedom at each node, totally eight degrees of freedom. The transverse deflection W and plane rotation ${\theta}$ with the cubic interpolation functions are selected as nodal variables. The element characteristics are formulated by discretizing the beam equations of motion, using the Galerkin weighted residual method, and are numerically integrated by the reduced shear integration technique, using the three-point Gauss quadrature with the various shear coefficients. Several numerical examples are analyzed to demonstrate the accuracy and the monotonic convergence behavior of the proposed TB4 beam element. The result indicates that the TB4 element shows the more excellent performance and the monotonic convergence behavior than the other existing Timoshenko beam type elements for the whole range of the beam aspect ratios, in both static and free vibration analyses.
This study attempted a new approach to the methods of identifying the scientifically giftedness in relation to the recent emphasis on the education for the scientifically gifted. This study focused on the processes of the cognition achievements, while only the results have been studied until now. Theoretical backgrounds about the ways of identifying the gifted, the research procedures about brain functions, and the information procedures about brain data were reviewed. Eleven scientifically gifted and 10 normal children from the 4th to the 6th grades were selected to analyze the characteristics of their brain waves with brain wave measuring instrument for PCs. The results showed that the scientifically gifted, while studying scientific and creative problems, used their right brain more than their left. When solving these problems, they utilized more of their theta and alpha brain waves than those normal children. In addition, theta brain waves of the scientifically gifted were rather active during these activities and this phenomenon was more distinctive in their right brain rather than their left. Thereby, this study implies that the characteristics of brain waves during the moments of solving certain problems can be used as a method to identify the scientifically gifted.
In this study, we investigated the effects of mouth breathing on brain activity through electroencephalogram (EEG). EEG was performed on 12 healthy volunteers of age ranging from 21 to 27 years (male: female = 6:6, non-smoker). Brain waves on resting state (Rest_N/Rest_M) and auditory-language stimuli state (Eng_N/Eng_M) were recorded during mouth and nose breathing. Four different regions (R1~R4) were classified based on the brain functionality. And each channel (e.g., Pf1 and Pf2) and frequency (${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$, ${\gamma}$, and ${\theta}$) were analyzed using their absolute power ratios of fast Fourier transform (FFT). The results showed that there was no significant difference between Rest_N and Rest_M. Eng_N had significantly higher brain activity than Rest_N; on the other hand, there was no significant difference between Rest_M and Eng_M. These results demonstrate that mouth-breathing on resting state does not induce any significant effects on brain activity and/or functionality, even though it causes subtle temporary inconvenience. In addition to the uncomfort, the brain activity can be adversely influenced by mouth-breathing, which could lower the cognitive skills under certain circumstances.
We obtained resonance field ($H_{res}$) and linewidth (${\Delta}H_{PP}$) from measured ferromagnetic resonance signal in the functions of polar angle (${\Theta}_H$) in Ni thin film of 240 nm thickness fabricated by electrodeposition method. The angular dependence of $H_{res}$ was well fitted with the calculated ones. We confirmed that the g-factor and effective demagnetization field were 2.18 and 445 emu/cc by the theoretical analysis of the resonance field, respectively. The angular dependence of ${\Delta}H_{PP}$ showed very large values at in-plane direction (${\Theta}_H=90^{\circ}$), which could not explained by the homogenous linewidth due to the Gilbert damping and inhomogeneous linewidth due to the angular variations and magnetization variations by the surface layer. Therefore, we considered the spin wave scattering (two magnon scattering) process in order to analyze the measured inhomogeneous linewidth, which was appeared in thicker film than the critical thickness of 50 nm. The defect medicated spin wave scattering played a key role in the electrodoposited Ni thin film of 240 nm thickness.

Recently, remarkable progress has been made in both technology and production of optical elements including aspheric lens. Especially, requirements for machining glass materials have been increasing in terms of limitation on using environment, flexibility of material selection and surface accuracy. In the past, precision optical glass lenses were produced through multiple processes such as grinding and polishing, but mass production of aspheric lenses requiring high accuracy and having complex profile was rather difficult. In such a background, the high-precision optical GMP process was developed with an eye to mass production of precision optical glass parts by molding press. This GMP process can produce with precision and good repeatability special form lenses such as camera, video camera, aspheric lens for laser pickup, $f-\theta$ lens for laser printer and prism, and me glass parts including diffraction grating and V-grooved base. GMP process consist a succession of heating, forming, and cooling stage. In this study, as a fundamental study to develop molds for GMP used in fabrication of glass lens, we conducted a glass lens forming simulation. In prior to, to determine flow characteristics and coefficient of friction, a compression test and a compression farming simulation for PBK40, which is a material of glass lens, were conducted. Finally, using flow stress functions and coefficient of friction, a glass lens forming simulation was conducted.
We characterized the proteomes of murine N2a cells following infection with three rabies virus (RV) strains, characterized by distinct virulence phenotypes (i.e., virulent BD06, fixed CVS-11, and attenuated SRV9 strains), and identified 35 changes to protein expression using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis in whole-cell lysates. The annotated functions of these proteins are involved in various cytoskeletal, signal transduction, stress response, and metabolic processes. Specifically, a-enolase, prx-4, vimentin, cytokine-induced apoptosis inhibitor 1 (CIAPIN1) and prx-6 were significantly up-regulated, whereas Trx like-1 and galectin-1 were down-regulated following infection of N2a cells with all three rabies virus strains. However, comparing expressions of all 35 proteins affected between BD06-, CVS-11-, and SRV9-infected cells, specific changes in expression were also observed. The up-regulation of vimentin, CIAPIN1, prx-4, and 14-3-3 ${\theta}/{\delta}$, and down-regulation of NDPK-B and HSP-1 with CVS and SRV9 infection were ${\geq}2$ times greater than with BD06. Meanwhile, Zfp12 protein, splicing factor, and arginine/serine-rich 1 were unaltered in the cells infected with BD06 and CVS-11, but were up-regulated in the group infected with SRV9. The proteomic alterations described here may suggest that these changes to protein expression correlate with the rabies virus' adaptability and virulence in N2a cells, and hence provides new clues as to the response of N2a host cells to rabies virus infections, and may also aid in uncovering new pathways in these cells that are involved in rabies infections. Further characterization of the functions of the affected proteins may contribute to our understanding of the mechanisms of RV infection and pathogenesis.
