  • The use of preformed polymers and their cross-linking have been attempted in order to improve the intrinsic fragility of monolayers and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films and to make their technological applications possible. It has shown that an imidization followed a polyion-complexation can stabilize the LB films against heat and solvents. And, when the polymer structure was property designed, concurrent removal of the alkyl tails together with imide formation could be accomplished. In this paper, we present a characteristic monolayer behavior of polymer with pendent polyethers and carboxyls, it's polyion-complexed LB film with subphase polymer PAA, and a possible skeletonization of the LB film by thermal imidization. Also, deposition status of LB films are evaluated by using QCM.

  • In this paper, it was demonstrated that organic thin- film transistors (OTFTs) were fabricated with the organic adhesion layer between an organic semiconductor and a gate insulator by vapor deposition polymerization (VDP) processing. In order to form polymeric film as an adhesion layer, VDP process was also introduced instead of spin-coating process, where polymeric film was co-deposited by high-vacuum thermal evaporation from 6FDA and ODA followed by curing. The saturated slop in the saturation region and the subthreshold nonlinearity in the triode region were c1early observed in the electrical output characteristics in our organic thin film transistors using the staggered-inverted top-contact structure. Field effect mobility, threshold voltage, and on-off current ratio in 15-nm-thick organic adhesion layer were about $0.5\;cm^2/Vs$, -1 V, and $10^6$, respectively. We also demonstrated that threshold voltage depends strongly on the delay time when a gate voltage has been applied to bias stress.

  • The diamide-diamine having carboxylic acid was prepared by direct condensation of 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylic acid with bits[4- (3-aminophenoxy ) phenyl] sulfone and bits(4-aminouhenyl)-1,4- diisopropylbenzene in medium consisting of triphenylphosphite, LiCl, and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone. Copoly (amide-imide) derivatives with high molecular weight could be synthesized by one-step polycondensation of prepared diamide-diamine having carboxylic acid and various dianhydride compounds. Depending on the chemical structure and composition of polymer backbones, the viscosities of polymers were found to range between 0.87∼ 1.57 dL/B. All the polymers showed good thermal stability up to 320$\^{C}$ and the 10% weight loss temperature was observed in the range of 450∼540$\^{C}$ in a thermogravimetric traces. The glass transition was recorded in the temperature range of 200 ∼ 270$\^{C}$. All the polymers showed an amorphous nature on a differential scanning calorimetric thermograms. These polymers generally had good mechanical properties and readily soluble in various polar solvents. Further, it was proved that their properties could be determined from the composition.

  • Passivation of surface defects by the formation of chemically inert structure at the surface of $TiO_2$ nanocrystals can be potentially useful in enhancing their photocatalytic activity. In this regard, we have studied the surface chemical states of $TiO_2$ surfaces prepared by a treatment in the afterglow of $N_2$ microwave plasma using X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS). We find that nitrogen is incorporated into the surface after the treatment up to a few atomic percent. Interestingly, the surface oxynitride layer is found to be chemically stable when it's in contact with water at room temperature (RT). The surface nitrogen species were also found to be thermally stable upon annealing up to $150^{\circ}C$ in the atmospheric pressure. Thus, we conclude that the treatment of oxide materials such as $TiO_2$ in the afterglow of $N_2$ plasma can be effective way to passivate the surface with nitrogen species.

  • Carbon fibers are used as a reinforcement material in an epoxy matrix in advanced composites due to their high mechanical strength, rigidity and low specific density. An important aspect of the mechanical properties of composites is associated to the adhesion between the surface of the carbon fiber and the epoxy matrix. This paper aimed to evaluate the effects of electron beam irradiation on the physicochemical properties of carbon fibers to obtain better adhesion properties in resultant composite. Chemical structure and surface elements of carbon fiber were determined by FT-IR, elemental analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, which indicated that the oxygen content increased significantly with increasing the radiation dose. Thermal stability of the carbon fibers was studied via the thermalgravimetric analysis. Surface morphology of carbon fiber was analyzed by scanning electron microscope. It was found that the degree of surface roughness was increased by electron beam irradiation.

  • Kenaf (Hibiscuc cannabinus L.) is a renewable resource for industry and kenaf lignin is syringyl-guaiacyl lignin. The electron beam irradiated on kenaf core various doses range from 200 to 1,000 kGy to improve delignification. The yield of lignin, which is 2.53 g from 10 g of electron beam irradiated kenaf core. A comparison extracted lignin between from native kenaf core and electron beam irradiated kenaf core was then studied through chemical structure and bonding property by a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Thermal stability of the extracted-purified lignin was performed via differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). These results were explained that electron beam irradiation increased performance of extracting efficiency.

  • Ultrafine-grained or nanostructured alloys usually lack the strain hardening capability needed to sustain uniform tensile deformation under high stresses. To circumvent this problem, we fabricated the Cu-based composite reinforced with the 3-dimensionally interconnected $Cu_5Zr$ phase using the combined technique of rapid quenching and subsequent hot-rolling. The alloy exhibited a tensile ductility of ~2.5% together with a strength of 1.57 GPa, which exceeds the values of most commercially available Cu-Be alloys. In this study, we elucidated the structural origin of the high strength and tensile ductility of the developed alloy by examining the thermal stability of the $Cu_5Zr$ reinforcing phase and the energy (work) absorption capability of the Cu matrix.

  • K2NiF4-type organic-based perovskites of the (C4H9NH3)2FexPb1-xCl4 (x=0.00, 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75) system have been synthesized using a low-temperatu re solution method under a flowing argon gas. When stoichiometric butylamine, iron chloride, and lead chloride are mixed, a yellow solution are obtained from slow cooling of 90 to -10 $^{\circ}C.$ The final product is a plate-like yellow crystal. The X-ray crystallographic analysis has been carried out using XRD in the range of $5^{\circ}{\leq}$ 2${\theta}$ ${\leq}80^{\circ}.$ The local symmetry around the absorbing Pb atom of the samples has been determined by the EXAFS spectroscopic study. The crystals assign to orthorhombic system by the XRD analysis. The FT-IR spectra are analyzed in the range of 600 to 3300 cm-1 . DSC and TGA are measured to detect thermal stability between 30 and 300 $^{\circ}C.$ Two endothermic peaks are detected in all samples. The electrical conductivity has been measured using the four-probes technique for the (C4H9NH3)2FexPb1-xCl4 system in 300-460 K. Photoluminescence phenomenon was also investigated at room-temperature.

  • Lithium gel electrolytes based on a mixed polymer matrix consisting of poly(vinylidenefluoride-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) and cyanoresin type M (CRM) were prepared using an in situ blending process. The CRM used in this study was a copolymer of cyanoethyl pullulan and cyanoethyl poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) with a mole ratio of 1:1. The mixed plasticizer was ethylene carbonate (EC) and propylene carbonate (PC) with a volume ratio of 1:1. In this study, the presence of PVDF in the electrolytes helps to form a dimensionally stable film over a broad composition range, and decreases the viscosity. In addition, it provides better rheological properties that are suitable for the extrusion of thin films. However, the presence of HFP has a positive effect on generating an amorphous domain in a crystalline PVDF structure. The ionic conductivity of the polymer electrolytes was investigated in the range 298-333 K. The introduction of CRM into the PVDF-HFP/$LiPF_6$, complex produced a PVDF-HFP/CRM/$LiPF_6$ complex with a higher ionic conductivity and improved thermal stability and dynamic mechanical properties than a simple PVDF-HFP/$LiPF_6$, complex.
