  • Using flexible bismaleimide-triazine co-polymer as a substrate, inkjet-printed Cu films were also investigated for low-cost and process feasibility of flexible electronics. After annealing at $200^{\circ}C$ for 1 h under various reducing ambient, surface color was changed to red and electrical resistivity was decreased to the level of conductor under formic acid ambient. However, its resistivity was much higher than conventional copper films due to surface crack. In order to reduce the residual film stress after annealing, additional isothermal treatment was inserted before anneal hiring the stress relaxation applied in processes of amorphous materials. As a result, no surface crack was observed and electrical resistivity of $3.4{\mu}{\Omega}cm$ was measured after annealing at $230^{\circ}C$ with stress relaxation while electrical resistivity of $7.4{\mu}{\Omega}cm$ was observed after normal annealing without relaxation. The effect of stress relaxation was also confirmed by observing surface crack after decreasing the relaxation time to 0 min.

  • This paper shows quantitative reliability evaluations of a Bluetooth module through extending previous qualitative methods limited to structure reliability tests and solder joint reliability tests for Bluetooth modules. Accelerated Life Testing (ALT) of the modules using temperature difference in temperature cycling as an accelerated stress was conducted for quantitative reliability evaluation under field environment conditions. Lifetime distribution parameters were estimated using the failure times obtained through the ALT, and then Coffin-Manson model was implemented. Results of the ALT showed that the failure mode of the modules was open and the failure mechanisms are both crack and delamination. The ALT reproduced the failure mode and mechanisms of failed Bluetooth modules collected from the field. Further, a quantitative reliability evaluation method with respect to various temperature differences in temperature cycling was proposed in this paper. $B_{10}$ lifetime of the module for the temperature difference $70^{\circ}C$ using the proposed method would be estimated as about 4 years.

  • The microstructural features and mechanical behavior of directionally solidified $(Y_2O_3)ZrO_2/Al_2O_3$ eutectic fibers after extended beat treatment in oxidizing environment were investigated. The fiber was grown continuously by an Edge-defined Film-fed Growth (EFG) technique. The microstructure was characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM). The microstructure of the fiber in the as-fabricated state consists of highly oriented colonv and fine lamellar microstructure along the fiber axis. Tensile strength of the $(Y_2O_3)ZrO_2/Al_2O_3$ eutectic fiber remained unchanged with heat treatment at temperatures between $1200^{\circ}C$ and $1500^{\circ}C$ up to 300h. The weibulls modulus remained fairly constant after extended thermal exposure. The fracture toughness and crack propagation behavior were investigated. The fracture toughness ($K_{1C}$) of the $(Y_2O_3)ZrO_2/Al_2O_3$ eutectic fiber in the as-fabricated state were measured to be 3.6 ${\pm}$ 0.5 MPa${\cdot}m^{1/2}$ by an indentation technique and 2.2 ${\pm}$ 0.2 MPa${\cdot}m^{1/2}$ by assuming elliptical flaw of a semi-infinite solid, respectively. The $(Y_2O_3)ZrO_2/Al_2O_3$ eutectic fiber showed a radial (Palmqvist) crack type and exhibited an orthotropic crack growth behavior under 100 g load.

  • Normally all manufacturing and fabrication processes introduce residual stresses in a component. These stresses exist even after all service or external loads have been removed. Residual stresses have been studied elaborately in the past and even in depth research have been done to determine their magnitude and distribution during different manufacturing processes. But very few works have dealt with the study of residual stresses formation during the casting process. Even though these stresses are less in magnitude, they still result in crack formation and subsequent failure in later phases of the component usage. In this work, the residual stresses developed in a shifter during casting process are first determined by finite element analysis using ANSYS(R) Mechanical APDL, Release 12.0 software. Initially the analysis was done on a simple block to determine the optimum element size and boundary conditions. With these values, the actual shifter component was analyzed. All these simulations are done in an uncoupled thermal and structural environment. The results showed the areas of maximum residual stress. This was followed by the geometrical optimization of the cast part for minimum residual stresses. The resulting shape gave lesser and more evenly distributed residual stresses. Crack compliance method was used to experimentally determine the residual stresses in the modified cast part. The results obtained from the measurements are verified by finite element analysis findings.

  • The objective of this study is to develop mixture proportioning approach of crack controlled lightweight foamed concrete without using high-pressure steam curing processes, as an alternative to autoclaved lightweight concrete blocks (class 0.6 specified in KS). To control thermal cracks owing to hydration heat of cementitious materials, 30% ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) was used as a partial replacement of ordinary portland cement (OPC). Furthermore, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyamid (PA) fibers were added to improve the crack resistance of foamed concrete. The use of 30% GGBS reduced the peak value of hydration production rate measured from isothermal tests by 28% and the peak temperature of foamed concrete measured from semi-adiabatic hydration tests by 9%. Considering the compressive strength development, internal void structure, and flexural strength of the lightweight foamed concrete, the optimum addition amount of PVA or PA fibers could be recommended to be $0.6kg/m^3$, although PA fiber slightly preferred to PVA fiber in enhancing the flexural strength of foamed concrete.

  • This study is about the method to control the quality of material used to repair leakage and crack of concrete structure and suggests the "Temperature Stability Test Method" as a follow-up study. In the result of performance evaluation for 45 samples of 15 types in 5 series, the temperature stability test showed different material changes including rolling down, volume change, and color change as they are frozen and melt repeatedly in the somewhat extreme conditions at low($-20^{\circ}C$) and high($60^{\circ}C$) temperatures, where 13 samples (approx. 29%) and 32 samples (approx. 71%) showed leakage, respectively, in the permeability test to evaluate leakage. This result shows the enough importance of setting the quality control criteria of leakage repair material currently used to maintain concrete structures considering the temperature conditions, and proves the applicability of the Temperature Stability Test Method as a standard test method to ensure long-term durability of concrete structure.

  • Control of the temperature difference across a section is an effective strategy to minimize the hydration-heat-induced cracks for the structures where internal restraint is dominant. The domestic code, however, overestimates probability of the crack occurrence judging from the foreign codes and construction experiences of real structures. Therefore, the background of the equation presented in the domestic code was investigated step by step to examine validity of the equation, and, as a result, it was found that the equation is established on a basis of simple elastic model where the change of elastic modulus in an early age is not considered. An advanced assessment strategy was proposed taking into account the hypoelastic model which corresponds to an incremental constitutive equation. The presented procedure resulted in an increased crack index, i.e. decreased crack risk, the value of which depends on various conditions of the mix and structures. Also, a prediction equation of the temperature difference was proposed which can readily consider the effect of the curing condition and ambient temperature in a hand calculation. For further study, the assessment equation may be more classified to strictly consider the characteristics of the mix and structures if the analytical and experimental data are accumulated.

  • In this study, in order to evaluate Hydration Heat Characteristics of mass concrete using ternary blended cement for large underground structures, the analysis considering the temperature history and the thermal characteristics inside the actual structure was performed. The results of the analysis are compared with the measured values to verify the reliability of the analysis and to evaluate the crack resistance performance. As a result of the measured the actual structure temperature, The adiabatic temperature rise coefficients K and ${\alpha}$ of the slab were $35.1^{\circ}C$ and 0.72, respectively, and the wall was analyzed as $29.3^{\circ}C$ and 0.67. The analytical results and the correlation coefficients(r) were 0.95 and 0.98, respectively. As a result of evaluating the crack resistance of slab and wall, the minimum crack index of slab and wall was 1.22 and 1.20, respectively. These results were found to satisfy the site management standards.

  • Brake disks for rolling stock are exposed to thermal fatigue during braking, and thermal cracks occur on surface of disks. Thermal cracks can cause serious accidents, deterioration of braking performance and increase of maintenance cost due to frequent exchange of friction materials. In this study, candidate materials with high-heat resistance were selected by searching the literature. By using cast specimens made of the candidate materials, chemical composition, crystal structure and graphite type were analyzed. In addition, friction coefficient and wear were measured and compared with values for the disk material in service. As a result, it was shown that the NiCrMo has highest tensile strength and lowest friction coefficient and the disk material in service has the most stable friction characteristics.

  • In this study, the thermal reliability on flip chip package with non-conductive pastes (NCPs) was evaluated under accelerated conditions. As the number of thermal shock cycle and the dwell time of temperature and humidity condition increased, the electrical resistance of the flip chip package with NCPs increased. These phenomenon was occurred by the crack between Au bump and Au bump and the delamination between chip or substrate and NCPs during the thermal shock and temperature and humidity tests. And the variation of electrical resistance during temperature and humidity test was larger than that during thermal shock test. Therefore it was identified that the flip chip package with NCPs was sensitive to environment with moisture.
