  • In the pursuit of enhancing image fusion techniques, this research presents a novel approach for fusing multimodal images, specifically infrared (IR) and visible (VIS) images, utilizing a combination of partial differential equations (PDE) and discrete cosine transformation (DCT). The proposed method seeks to leverage the thermal and structural information provided by IR imaging and the fine-grained details offered by VIS imaging create composite images that are superior in quality and informativeness. Through a meticulous fusion process, which involves PDE-guided fusion, DCT component selection, and weighted combination, the methodology aims to strike a balance that optimally preserves essential features and minimizes artifacts. Rigorous evaluations, both objective and subjective, are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the approach. This research contributes to the ongoing advancement of multimodal image fusion, addressing applications in fields like medical imaging, surveillance, and remote sensing, where the marriage of IR and VIS data is of paramount importance.

서스펜션 진공 플라즈마 용사법을 통한 YSZ 코팅의 형성 (Formation of YSZ Coatings Deposited by Suspension Vacuum Plasma Spraying)

  • As increasing thermal efficiency of the gas turbine, the performance improvement of thermal barrier coatings is also becoming important. Ytrria stabilized zirconia(YSZ) is the most popular materials for ceramic top coating because of its low thermal conductivity. In order to enhance the performance of thermal barrier coatings for hot sections in the gas turbine, suspension plasma spraying was developed in order to feed nano-sized powders. YSZ coatings formed by suspension plasma spraying showed better performance than YSZ coatings due to its exclusive microstructure. In this research, two YSZ coatings were deposited by suspension vacuum plasma spraying at 400 mbar and 250 mbar. Microstructures of YSZ coatings were analyzed by scanning electron image(SEM) on each spraying conditions, respectively. Crystalline structure transformation was not detected by X-ray diffraction. Thermal conductivity of suspension vacuum plasma sprayed YSZ coatings were measured by laser flash analysis. Thermal conductivity of suspension vacuum plasma sprayed YSZ coatings containing horizontally oriented nano-sized pores and vertical cracks showed $0.6-1.0W/m{\cdot}K$, similar to thermal conductivity of YSZ coatings formed by atmospheric plasma spraying.

  • The role of thermal contact resistance between a casting and a metal mold as well as natural convection in the melt during solidification of a pure metal is numerically studied. Numerical simulation is performed for a rectangular cavity using the coordinate transformation by boundary-fitted coordinate and pure aluminum is used as the phase- change material. The influences of thermal contact resistance on the interface shape and position, solidified volume fraction, temperature field and local heat transfer are investigated.

  • 본 연구에서는 체적평균 개념과 열저항 개념을 적용하여 공간적으로 보강된 복합재료의 열전도계수를 예측하였다. 체적평균 개념을 적용한 방법은 기존의 미소기계적 이론들과 좌표변환관계를 이용하고, 열저항 개념을 적용한 방법은 열과 전자의 확산에 대한 유사성을 이용하여 SRC의 단위구조의 열전도계수에 대한 구성방정식을 얻었다. 이론적 예측을 검증하기 위해 4-D SRC에 대해 실험을 수행하였으며, 예측결과와 실험결과가 잘 일치함을 보였다.

Analysis of orthotropic plates by the two-dimensional generalized FIT method

  • In this study, the two-dimensional generalized finite integral transform(FIT) approach was extended for new accurate thermal buckling analysis of fully clamped orthotropic thin plates. Clamped-clamped beam functions, which can automatically satisfy boundary conditions of the plate and orthogonality as an integral kernel to construct generalized integral transform pairs, are adopted. Through performing the transformation, the governing thermal buckling equation can be directly changed into solving linear algebraic equations, which reduces the complexity of the encountered mathematical problems and provides a more efficient solution. The obtained analytical thermal buckling solutions, including critical temperatures and mode shapes, match well with the finite element method (FEM) results, which verifies the precision and validity of the employed approach.

  • Formation and thermal stability of a quasicrystalline phases in Al-Fe-Mo alloys were investigated by means of melt-spinning process and subsequent heat treatment test. Thermal decomposition and phase transformation process of the as-spun alloys were studied using X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. The melt-spun Al-Fe-Mo alloys contained an icosahedral quasicrystalline phase with a quasilattice constant of 0.457 nm. Icosahedral phase formed at a composition of $Al_{82.5}Fe_{14}Mo_{3.5}$ as a metastable phase during rapid solidification was transformed into the stable crystalline phases, cubic 1/0 approximant and monoclinic ${\lambda}$-phase, upon heating. A metastable icosahedral and cubic(a = 0.93 nm) phases in as-spun $Al_{65}Fe_{20}Mo_{15}$ alloy were decomposed into two cubic(a = 0.62, 0.31 nm) phases by heat treatment.

  • Symptoms of foot-and-mouth disease include fever and drooling a lot around the hoof, blisters in the mouth, poor appetite, blisters around the hoof, and blisters around the hoof. Research is underway on smart barns that remotely manage these symptoms through cameras. Visible light cameras can measure the condition of livestock such as blisters, but cannot measure body temperature. On the other hand, infrared thermal imaging cameras can measure body temperature, but it is difficult to measure the condition of livestock.   • In recent decades, climate change has become an issue of global importance. The calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA) cement emits lower CO2 than the Portland cements while manufacturing. However, ettringite, which is a main hydration product of CSA cement, starts dehydrating at a temperature above 100℃, hence it may limit the CSA cement for high temperature application. Recently, an early carbonation curing of cement-based material has been extensively studied in terms of carbon neutralization. The carbonation curing of CSA cement has a potential to transform the AFt and AFm phases into calcium carbonate, and the transformation of unstable hydrates to stable hydrates can increase the resistance to elevated temperature. This review study summarizes and discusses the carbonation curing effect of CSA cement and the thermal stability of CSA cement exposed to elevated temperatures.

  • 대부분의 용접재는 용접 후 빠른 속도로 냉각하는 과정에서 재료조직의 변화, 즉 상변태(마르텐사이트변태)가 일어난다. 그리고 이러한 상변태에 의한 체적의 팽창은 특히 고강도강재의 용접시 용접부의 잔류응력완화에 기여한다. 따라서 고강도강을 적용한 강구조물 접합부의 잔류응력 특징을 파악하기 위해서는 고강도강 용접시 상변태가 잔류응력완화에 미치는 효과를 정량적으로 평가할 수 있는 수치적 모델을 확립해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 고강도강 용접시 상변태에 의한 체적의 팽창이 잔류응력 완화에 미치는 영향을 잔류응력 측정 실험을 통하여 조사하였고, 이를 바탕으로 상변태에 의한 잔류응력완화를 고려한 고강도강 및 이종강재 용접접합부의 잔류응력 특징을 3차원 열탄소성 해석기법 개발을 통하여 재현하였다.

기계적 합금화 p-type FeSi2의 플라즈마 용사 성형 및 열전 특성 (Thermoelectric Properties of p- type FeSi2 Processed by Mechanical Alloying and Plasma Thermal Spraying)

  • P-type $\beta$-FeSi$_2$ with a nominal composition of $Fe_{0.92}Mn_{0.08}Si_2$ powders has been produced by mechanical alloying process. As-milled powders were spray dried and consolidated by atmospheric plasma thermal spraying as a rapid sintering process. As-milled powders were of metastable state and fully transformed to $\beta$-$FeSi_2$ phase by subsequent isothermal annealing. However, as-thermal sprayed $Fe_{0.92}Mn_{0.08}Si_2$ consisted of untransformed mixture of $\alpha$-$Fe_2Si_{5}$ and $\varepsilon$-FeSi phases. Isothermal annealing has been carried out to induce transformation to the thermoelectric semiconducting $\beta$-$FeSi_2$ phase. Isothermal annealing at $845^{\circ}C$ in vacuum gradually led to the thermoelectric semiconducting $\beta$-$FeSi_2$ phase transformation, but some residual metallic $\alpha$ and $\varepsilon$ phases were unavoidable even after prolonged annealing. Thermoelectric properties of $\beta$-$FeSi_2$ materials before and after isothermal annealing were evaluated. Seebeck coefficient increased and electric conductivity decreased with increasing annealing time due to the phase transition from metallic phases to semiconducting phases. Thermoelectric properties showed gradual increment, but overall properties appeared to be inferior to those of vacuum hot pressed specimens.
