It needs to Prevent damage as aging shotcrete itself exists as a dangerous component to comuting vehicles or infrastructure due to scaling, spaling, and loosening. However, it is hard to make an approach owing to a steep slope and high work, and there has been indicated a limit that it is difficult to grasp the internal condition of shotcrete on the surface. This study aimed to research internal defects that cannot be observed from the surface, by measuring a subtle thermal transfer on the shotcrete surface by using infrared thermography for overcoming such a technical limit. As a result of conducting an inspection through an analysis on measured data and fieldwork using an endoscope camera, it was impossible to accurately determine the wet part because of an excessive coating of shotcrete, yet, This study is proposed effictively extract a void part of the inside with non-destructive and non-touching method.
The aim of this study is to investigate facial temperature changes induced by facial expression and emotional state in order to recognize a persons emotion using facial thermal images. Background: Facial thermal images have two advantages compared to visual images. Firstly, facial temperature measured by thermal camera does not depend on skin color, darkness, and lighting condition. Secondly, facial thermal images are changed not only by facial expression but also emotional state. To our knowledge, there is no study to concurrently investigate these two sources of facial temperature changes. Method: 231 students participated in the experiment. Four kinds of stimuli inducing anger, fear, boredom, and neutral were presented to participants and the facial temperatures were measured by an infrared camera. Each stimulus consisted of baseline and emotion period. Baseline period lasted during 1min and emotion period 1~3min. In the data analysis, the temperature differences between the baseline and emotion state were analyzed. Eyes, mouth, and glabella were selected for facial expression features, and forehead, nose, cheeks were selected for emotional state features. Results: The temperatures of eyes, mouth, glanella, forehead, and nose area were significantly decreased during the emotional experience and the changes were significantly different by the kind of emotion. The result of linear discriminant analysis for emotion recognition showed that the correct classification percentage in four emotions was 62.7% when using both facial expression features and emotional state features. The accuracy was slightly but significantly decreased at 56.7% when using only facial expression features, and the accuracy was 40.2% when using only emotional state features. Conclusion: Facial expression features are essential in emotion recognition, but emotion state features are also important to classify the emotion. Application: The results of this study can be applied to human-computer interaction system in the work places or the automobiles.

As energy conservation and environmental issues are emerging as a hot topic around the world, consumers are demanding high-efficiency, eco-friendly products. In this study, the author proposed 120W LED lighting system that replace metal halide lamp (MHL) which is currently used in the industry. Furthermore, it would be possible to provide a perfect opportunity for Korea to rise as a global leader in the LED lighting industry through soundness evaluation of the LED lighting system that is applied.
In this study, a cyclic tensile test on a notched butterfly specimen made of woven glass fiber composite was performed on a modified Arcan fixture. During the mechanical test, the sample was monitored with a hybrid stereoscopic system comprised of two visible lights and one infrared camera. The visible light cameras were employed for kinematic measurements using a finite-element-based multiview correlation technique. A semi-hybrid correlation approach was followed, providing Lagrangian temperature fields of the Region of Interest. Due to the complex composite architecture and specimen shape, localized shearing was observed during the tensile loading. Furthermore, asymmetrical damage developed around the notches as revealed by localized strains and thermal hot spots.

Three types of samples with defects were measured by lock-in med-IR (infrared) thermography with various lock-in frequencies for different materials. The lock-in method can be used to detect defects when an external energy source is applied to the object, the non-uniformity of the incident thermal energy distribution is eliminated, and the camera's measurement cycle is synchronized with the load cycle of the incident energy source. For inspecting samples with defects, results of thermal images are analyzed when three types of materials, i.e., SM45C, STS316L, and AL6061 are tested and three lock-in frequencies, i.e., 0.08, 0.1, and 0.12 Hz are applied. In this study, the optimal lock-in frequencies were determined by comparing the results of each material and lock-in frequency measured using the mid-IR camera.
This paper presents an optimum method for determining the parameters to athermalize a long-wavelength infrared (LWIR) zoom camera by introducing the defocus sensitivity analysis. To effectively find parameters that significantly affect thermal defocus, we simulated athermal analysis with temperature changes for all variables. Consequently, we found that the optimum parameter to correct thermal defocus is the compensation lens, and its movements with temperature at each zoom position are obtained from the simulated athermal analysis. To verify the efficiency of our athermal approach, we performed actual athermal tests in a broad temperature range at each zoom position. The simulated athermal analysis provides the initial position of the compensation lens at the corresponding temperature and zoom position. Then the compensation lens is elaboratively moved to serve the highest live contrast ratio (LCR) for the target. This experiment shows that the compensation lens locations in the actual test are closely matched to those in the simulated athermal analysis. In addition, two outdoor tests conducted in two different environments confirm that the autofocus system suggested in this study performs well at all zoom positions. Using the proposed athermal analysis approach in this paper, we efficiently realize an athermal system over the specified temperature and zoom ranges.

In this paper, 'lifetime-temperature rise model' based on the 'lifetime-resistance model' is theoretically Proposed, in order to find out the evaluation method of degradation and the residual lifetime by use of infrared image camera for electric connections/contacts. Two assumptions have been builded up for the 'lifetime-temperature rise model': one is associated with the linear relationship between the temperature ism ΔK and contact resistance, and the other the functional relationship between the temperature of electric connections/contacts and the operating time presenting in the 'lifetime-resistance model'. To prove the proposed model, experiments have been performed for various electric connections/contacts. From the experimental results, measured values were quite similar to the calculated values, which proved the above-mentioned two assumptions. Therefore, by use of 'lifetime-temperature rise model', it is possible to estimate the trend of degradation and the residual lifetime for electric connections/contacts through the temperature measurements .
In this paper, we propose a vision based passenger monitoring system for passenger's safety in railway station. Since 2005, Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI) has developed a vision based monitoring system, funded by Korean government, for passenger's safety in railway station. The proposed system uses various types of sensors, such as, stereo camera, thermal-camera and infrared sensor, in order to detects danger situations in platform area. Especially, detection process of the system exploits the stereo vision algorithm to improve detection accuracy. The paper describes the overall system configuration and proposed detection algorithm, and then verifies the system performance with extensive experimental results in a real station environment.

In this paper, the design concept of a low-temperature vacuum blackbody was described, and thermophysical model of the blackbody was numerically evaluated. Also the working performance of low-temperature vacuum blackbody was evaluated using infrared camera system. The blackbody system was constructed to operate under high-vacuum conditions ($2.67{\times}10^{-2}$ Pa) to reduce temperature uncertainty, which is caused by vapor condensation at low temperatures usually below 273 K. In addition, both heat sink and heat shield including cold shield were installed around radiator to prevent heat loss from the blackbody. Simplified mathematical model of blackbody radiator was analyzed using modified Stefan-Boltzmann's rule. The infrared radiant performance of the blackbody was evaluated using infrared camera. Based on the results of measurements, and simulation, temperature stability of the low-temperature vacuum blackbody demonstrated that the blackbody system can serve as a highly stable reference source for the calibration of an infrared optical system.

This paper presents the thermal and electrical characteristics of ZnO arrester blocks under the AC voltages. The leakage currents of ZnO arrester blocks were measured as a function of the time. The temperature distributions of ZnO arrester blocks were observed by the thermal image infrared camera. The degradation and thermal runaway of ZnO arrester blocks were closely related to the temperature limit of ZnO arrester blocks which being decided heat generation and dissipation. The temperature and leakage current of ZnO arrester blocks were sensitively changed in a resistance of ZnO arrester blocks. As a result, the degradation and thermal runaway of ZnO arrester blocks depend on the temperature and leakage current of ZnO arrester blocks.
