  • Construction errors can have significant effects on project performance. Yet, any attempt to tackle error should be driven by the ability to understand its archetypal nature. This study aims to analyze a variety of construction errors at the execution stage, in order to develop a comprehensive set of categories that shall provide insights about the effect of different error types on the industry. We investigate a database provided by an authoritative source, which includes a number of 256 construction errors that occurred in the year 2009 in Dubai construction industry. Results from this study reveal that the most common error arose from 'poor workmanship' which accounted for 21% of the total encountered faults. The next most common types arose from the 'usage of impaired materials', followed by the 'deviation from an intended dimension'. These observations infer that the majority of construction errors are driven by workers' lack of skill or competence. Moreover, it suggests that execution-oriented errors are the major cause of faults and accidents rather than design errors.

  • Human error analysis has been performed to prevent accidents and reduce human error rate in diverse contexts; manufacturing, aircraft and nuclear power plants. Until now, human error in our everyday lives has not been focused. This paper addressed human error when users go up and down elevator. First of all, human error types of elevator users were categorized by a taxonomy of unsafe acts. It was also investigated which types of human error occurred in the elevator. Finally display design guidelines were suggested to reduce human error in elevator. Auditorial display and visual display can be used to reduce human errors in elevator. Future study should be performed to check if the proposed design guidelines are effective in the real situations.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze and diagnose the type of errors indicated by the students in the process of calculation of the fractional multiplication and division, and to propose teaching methods, to effectively correct errors. The results obtained through this study are as follows. First, based on the results of the preliminary examination, 6 types of errors of the fractional multiplication and division has been organized. In particular, the most frequent types of errors are algorithm errors. Therefore, a teacher should explain the meaning and concept of fractional multiplication and division. Second, 4 prescription methods are proposed for understanding fractional multiplication and division. Third, according to the results of this study, it was effective to diagnose underachievers' error types and give corrective lesson according to the cause of the error types. Throughout the study, it's concluded that it is necessary to analyze and diagnose the error types of fractional multiplication and division, and then a teacher can correct error types by 4 proposed prescription methods. Also, 5 students showed interest while learning, and participated actively.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between error types and Polya's problem solving process. For doing this, we selected 106 sophomore students in a middle school and gave them algebra word problem test. With this test, we analyzed the students' error types in solving algebra word problems. First, We analyzed students' errors in solving algebra word problems into the following six error types. The result showed that the rate of student's errors in each type is as follows: "misinterpreted language"(39.7%), "distorted theorem or solution"(38.2%), "technical error"(11.8%), "unverified solution"(7.4%), "misused data"(2.9%) and "logically invalid inference"(0%). Therefore, we found that the most of student's errors occur in "misinterpreted language" and "distorted theorem or solution" types. According to the analysis of the relationship between students' error types and Polya's problem-solving process, we found that students who made errors of "misinterpreted language" and "distorted theorem or solution" types had some problems in the stage of "understanding", "planning" and "looking back". Also those who made errors of "unverified solution" type showed some problems in "planing" and "looking back" steps. Finally, errors of "misused data" and "technical error" types were related in "carrying out" and "looking back" steps, respectively.

  • Human error is one of the major contributors to the railway accidents or incidents. In order to develop an effective countermeasure to remove or reduce human errors, a systematic analysis should be preferentially performed to identify their causes, characteristics, and types of human error induced in accidents or incidents. This paper introduces a case study for human error analysis of the railway accidents and incidents. For the case study, more than 1,000 domestic railway accidents or incidents that happened during the year of 2004 have been investigated and a detailed error analysis was performed on the selected 90 cases, which were obviously caused by human error. This paper presents a classification structure for human error analysis, and summarizes the analysis results such as causes of the events, error modes and types, related worker, and task type.

  • In aviation, it is important to analyse and classify human error in detail. Because human error has been implicated in 70 or 80% of aviation accidents in literature review. But, there is little detailed classification and research of human error. In this study, Objectives are to establish human error model by classifying types of human error in detail and also to analyse human factors by using the established model. Analysis of the data uses Korea Aviation Incidents Reporting System(GYRO). The resulting from actual analysis, there is a some difference between flight steps for human error occurrence and types of human error are different according to the aviation personnel(pilot, ATC controller).

  • The purpose of this study is to provide informations about cause of failures when students solve word problems by analyzing what errors students made in solving word problems and types of error and features of error according to problem solving strategy. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, $5^{th}$ grade students preferred the expressions, estimate and verify, finding rules in order when solving word problems. But the majority of students couldn't use simplifying. Second, the types of error encountered according to the problem solving strategy on problem based learning are as follows; In the case of 'expression', the most common error when using expression was the error of question understanding. The second most common was the error of concept principle, followed by the error of solving procedure. In 'estimate and verify' strategy, there was a low proportion of errors and students understood estimate and verify well. When students use 'drawing diagram', they made errors because they misunderstood the problems, made mistakes in calculations and in transforming key-words of data into expressions. In 'making table' strategy, there were a lot of errors in question understanding because students misunderstood the relationship between information. Finally, we suggest that problem solving ability can be developed through an analysis of error types according to the problem strategy and a correct teaching about these error types.

  • Two types of digital repetitive control systems are analyzed and designed to reduce the error spectrum including not only harmonic but also non-harmonic components. First, a novel gain scheduling algorithm is suggested for conventional and modified repetitive controller is scheduled to reduce the infinite norm of error in frequency domain. For this, the relative error transfer function is mewly defined as the ratio of the error spectrum for the system with a repetitive controller to the error spectrum for the system with a repetitive controller to the error spectrum for the system without a repetitive controller. Secondly, as an alternative of a repetitive control system with the gain scheduling, a repetitive control system with higher order repetitve function is analyzed and designed, where instead of equal weightings, weightings of the higher order repetitive function is determined in such a way that the infinite norm of relative error transfer function is minimized. To show the validities of proposed methods, computer simulation results are illustrated for a typical disk drive head positioning servo system.

  • In the era of the 4-th industrial revolution, the concept of smart factory is emerging. There are efforts to predict the occurrences of facility errors which have negative effects on the utilization and productivity by using data analysis. Data composed of the situation of a facility error and the type of the error, called the facility error log, is required for the prediction. However, in many manufacturing companies, the types of facility error are not precisely defined and categorized. The worker who operates the facilities writes the type of facility error in the form with unstructured text based on his or her empirical judgement. That makes it impossible to analyze data. Therefore, this paper proposes a framework for constructing a phrase network to support the identification and classification of facility error types by using facility error logs written by operators. Specifically, phrase indicating the types are extracted from text data by using dictionary which classifies terms by their usage. Then, a phrase network is constructed by calculating the similarity between the extracted phrase. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated by using real-world facility error logs. It is expected that the proposed method will contribute to the accurate identification of error types and to the prediction of facility errors.

  • For general geometry of Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), volumetric error equation including 21 systematic error components was showed using vector expression. Different types of CMM listed on an international standard (BS 6808) were classified according to their geometry, and the general volumetric error equation was used for the CMMs. Application of volumetric error equation was also introduced, such as position error compensation, error equation of CNC-machine and parametric error analysis, etc.
