The Buffering Effects of Self-Mastery on the Relationship between DailyStress and Depression among Adolescents (청소년의 일상적 스트레스와 우울에 관한 연구 : 자기조절력의 완충효과를 중심으로)

  • The relationship between daily stress, depression and self-mastery, and the role of self-mastery as a moderator were studied among adolescents (N = 186). Findings were as follows: (1) daily stress was positively correlated with depression, whereas self-master was negatively correlated with depression; (2) items which caused most stress to participants were related to study and peer pressure; (3) self-mastery moderated and buffered the effect of stress on depression, in particular daily stress related to the areas of study and school. Adolescents with high levels of selfmastery were significantly less likely to report symptoms of depression with increasing levels of daily stress, compared to adolescents reporting low levels of self-mastery. Granting limitations imposed by the convenience sample, the study supports the role of theoretical buffering for self-mastery in the context of stress processes, and suggests the need for developing self-mastery of adolescents by implementing empowerment models.

The Influence of Self-Encouragement Activities on Elementary Students' Adaptation to School Life (자기격려 활동이 초등학생의 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of self-encouragement activities on elementary students' adaptation to school life. Two classes were sampled among 5th grade at Y elementary school in Gwangju Metropolitan city. One class was assigned to experimental group and the other class was assigned to control group. Experimental group had 8 sessions of self-encouragement activities. To prove the effect of self-encouragement activities, data were collected through pre and post test on adaptation to school life of the students, and were analysed via ANCOVA. The results of this study are following; First, the experimental group had improved significantly in school adaptability than the control group. Second, there was showed significant improvement in teacher-student relationship adaptation, peer relationship adaptation, classwork adaptation, school rule adaptation in the experimental group.

  • The purposes of this study are to understand the relationship between training program components and training performance in public sector. Training program components(training planning, trainer's teaching ability, trainee's motivation to learn, training contents) and the social support(superior's support, peer's support) that are supposed to affect the training performance were chosen by the literature review. There are 20 hypotheses based on literature reviews and tested by the data from questionnaires. It is turned out to be partly significant positive relationship between the training program components and training performance. The contribution and limitations of this research were discussed, and the future researches were mentioned.

  • Purpose: The greatest asset to all organizations is the employees and they should be guarded against factors hindering their work ability. Nevertheless, most organizations are always more concerned about making profits to the extent of forgetting their employee's welfare. On this point, this study aims to examine employee's work-related stress and its relationship with work ability. Research design, data and methodology: This study focused on obtaining mostly peer-reviewed works to suggest research findings, assuming that qualitative literature approach allows researchers to explore in-depth information concerning complex issues in a standard life setting. Numerous prior researchers applied their research design in content analysis, especially where various concepts are present for analysis. Results: Based on numerous qualitative textual resources, this study found that human resource practitioners should plan stress management strategies for their employees to apply five kinds of solutions that the current study suggests because it is vital to ensure their wellbeing towards sustaining their performance. Conclusions: All in all, based on the findings, this study concludes that employee's work stress negatively impacts their work ability with affecting their mental health. As a result, there is little doubt that practitioners should regularly monitor the working environment for stress-related factors besides creating a healthy working environment for all employees.

Effects of Stress Coping Behaviors on Social Adjustments and Problem Behaviors in Childhood (아동의 스트레스 대처행동과 사회적 적응 및 행동문제)

  • This study was designed to investigate the relation between stress coping behavior and social adjustments in late childhood. Total 657 teenagers (238 ten-year-olds, 230 twelve-year-olds, and 189 fourteen-year-olds) and their parents living in Inchon area participated in the study. Each child was evaluated whether they cope either (a) defensively or (b) actively in several stressful domains by completing the Stress Coping Hating Scales (Korean). Their social adjustments were measured in areas like peer relationship, family relationship, and conformity with Social Adjustment Scales (Korean). The final examination scores were used to rate children’s Academic Achievements. Finally Korean version of Achenbach’s Child Behavior Check List were completed by parents. As results, girls were found to use more defensive strategies to cope stress, showed more conformity and withdrawn behaviors and achieved higher scores academically than boys. Generally younger children tended to adjust better socially than older children. As children grew older they used more and more defensive strategies to cope with everyday stress. Also older children showed more withdrawn behavior and aggressive behavior than younger children. As anticipated children who used more defensive coping strategies were reported to have more behavior problems, showed poorer social adjustments and academic achievements. Children who used more active coping strategies, on the other hands, were reported to haute less behavior problems, adjusted better socially and had better academia achievements. Finally children who adjusted better socially and had high academic achievements were reported to have less behavior problems.

Development of Internet Vulnerability Index for Youth through Internet Overdependency Analysis (인터넷 과의존 요인분석을 통한 청소년의 인터넷 취약성 지수 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the Internet vulnerability index of adolescents. To do this, we used the original data of long - term follow - up survey for the internet overdependency cause analysis conducted by NIA in 2018, and analyzed the correlation between alternatives of internet vulnerability index and personal psychology by using linear regression analysis. Factor analysis showed that the relationship with the surroundings was indexed by adding 9 items to positive factors such as family acceptance, peer attachment, and teacher favorability. The relationship between the surroundings and self - stigmatization is confirmed, and the relationship between the surroundings and the Internet fragility is predicted to be negatively related, and the digital capacity is also assumed to be negatively correlated with the Internet vulnerability. In order to develop the specific form of the Internet vulnerability index, personal psychology and linear regression analysis were conducted. As a result, positive factors and R value of personal psychology were increased when considering the relationship with the environment and the digital capacity rather than the Internet overdependency model. Based on these implications, we discussed the implications and limitations of this study.

The Factors Influencing the Mental Health of Middle School Students in Korea, China and Japan (한.중.일 중학생의 정신건강에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Objectives: This study analyzed the factors that influence the mental health of adolescents in Korea, China, and Japan. Methods: The survey was conducted in each country between November 2008 and January 2009. The respondents were 1,390 Korean, Chinese, and Japanese students aged between 14 years and 16. The mental health was measured by the School Mental Health Scale of Ochanomizu University (2004), which is composed of six scales: physical symptoms, eating disorders, depression, interpersonal relationship, powerlessness, and impulsiveness. Results: The relationship with family and friends are strongly associated with mental health. As for Korean and Chinese female students experienced mental illness more than male. Regarding Korean students, the time to use TV computer game is related to relationship and impulsiveness. The mobile phone use more than three hours is related to depression and relationship for Japanese, and the number of family member less than three, is associated with powerlessness for Chinese. Conclusion: Regular and effective health education is required in order to improve students lifestyles and family and peer relationships. This study also offers the fundamental information for health promotion programs for Korean, Chinese and Japanese students.

A Meta-analysis of Social Skills Training for Socially Isolated Children (사회적 고립 아동의 사회기술훈련 효과에 관한 메타분석)

  • Children who have problems in interacting appropriately with others typically have significant social skills deficits. Social skills training has become a primary intervention to improve the appropriate peer relationship or peer acceptance. Many social skills training programs have been designed and implemented on socially isolated children, however the findings from many studies investigating the effect of social skills interventions are various. The first purpose of this study was to verify the effectiveness of interventions by using quantitative method of meta-analysis. Second, it was to review a various research in detail. Third, it was to provide the basis of planning a social skills training program. For these purposes, findings from 26 studies investigating the effects of social skills interventions for 624 socially isolated children (5-12 years) were analyzed. The result of this study were the following : The pooled overall mean effect size(ES) was 1.11. On average, the pooled mean effect size(ES) according to the different research variables was large, meaning that the social skills intervention had a great effect and was socially important and necessary for socially isolated children. It would be recommended that social skills programs include appropriate target behaviors through multidisciplinary assessment process. This program should mainly focus on the improvement of prosocial behavior skills as well as reducing problem behaviors. For preschool children, over 50 minutes per session, two to three sessions per week, for a total of total over 20 sessions would be ideal. Posttest and follow-up need to perform for generalization and maintenance. Content of the program should be tailored to the developmental level as well as the interest level of the children.

A Structural Equation Model on Korean Adolescents' Multi-cultural Acceptance (청소년의 다문화 수용성 구조 모형 구축)

  • This study was conducted to develop a unified structural model that defines relationships among factors that affect Multi Cultural Acceptance (MCA) for adolescents. This study was performed using the dataset from the 2016 Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCPS). We analyzed the survey result from the dataset at the 0.05 significance level using the SPSS and AMOS version 22 programs. Specifically, we investigated several demographic characteristics of the survey participants by a descriptive analysis method that adopted the maximum likelihood estimate method to verify the fitness of the hypothetical model and the hypotheses therein. In addition, we applied the ${\chi}^2$-test, GFI, AGFI, CFI, IFI, and RMSEA to show the fitness level of our structural model. The results showed that our proposed structural model demonstrated a fine fitness level. We found that key factors that affect MCA for adolescents were ego-resilience, peer relationships, and sense of community. Overall, the results of our study indicate that combinational intervention is needed to help adolescents lift their ego-resilience, as well as to develop peer relationships and a sense of community.

The Effects of School Climate on Fear of Attending School for Junior High School Students : Focused on School Violence as a Mediator (학교분위기가 중학생의 등교공포에 미치는 영향 : 학교폭력의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to see the effects of school climate on school violence and fears of attending school. The direct relationship between school climates and fears of attending school will be examined, as well as the indirect and mediated effects of school violence in that school climates influence the fears of attending school. A theoretical model of the relationships of school climates, school violence, and fears of attending school will be given. The subjects of the surveys were chosen from 12 junior high schools in the Seoul, Gyeonggi area through convenience sampling. 1,317 surveys were then analyzed. School climates directly affect the fear of going to school through the mediums of peer and teacher violence. The derived results stress the necessity of improving school climates in order to reduce violence from peers and teachers and to reduce fear of attending school.
