가구디자인의 환경과 미래에 관한 연구 (A Study On Environment and Future of Furniture Design)

  • A Culture is not the fashion that can be changed and created lightly. However, a small number of people are creating and leading the fashion for the foundation of a culture. For example, the fashion in Tokyo spreads across the nation, the fashion in Europe, USA and all over the world are under the influence of Paris, California and New York. Now, we should think about - what is the our consideration to be a member of the minority? What is the today's trend and how will be the future environment of interior, exterior and furniture design? Which one is the measure of the value for leading the culture? The answers in the design area are the creating new value and health in various design styles - Minimal, Organic, Multiple, Natural, Intelligent Life Style. Also this analysis of these trend should be more necessary for the space and environment design area of future than the furniture design area.

  • High Tech Design manner is a design concept that had been constantly discussed in constitution process of the West art history and modem ideology and had been experimented in industry, having started from futurism and structuralism in the early 20th century through Kinetic Art & Technology Art and up to now. High Tech Design had a great influence also on Post Modernism and more important is that this manner of design will be existing continually in the future too. From the modem times when machine civilization started, the artist and designers expressed a utopia will showing the future world with help of High Tech Design and modem people are realizing technology images as a utopia, in the space and material presented by this high tech design. And this utopia imply the images of dynamic power, speed making a voyage in universe, dream of future, hope, mass production, earth's environment, wealth etc. High Tech furniture was lightly designed by using thin steel wire, structure stressing the metallic characteristic and tempered glass, and it was used for presenting a convenient interior space visually, and with that it can make a unified sense in High Tech interior space, and a contrary effect compared with minimal space. High Tech Design equipped with glass and metal materials looking inappropriate for our interior space due to their sharp and cold image has been regularly used as living furniture, not only decoration function, and then there must be reasons for that. This study intends to research how High Tech Design has been changed and developed in the design history & West art history from the early 20th century, and to present it's value of development as data orienting, namely a direction for the industry of the next-generation and furniture design.

  • 최근 ICT 발전과 함께 다양한 분야가 발전하고 변화하여 사용자와 기기, 컴퓨터 등의 상호작용에 관한 연구과 활발하게 진행 중이다. 이에 가구 또한 기술과 접목하여 사람과 상호작용하는 형태로 인터랙티브 가구가 생겨나고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서 사용자와 가구의 상호작용에 관한 연구에 도움이 되고자 미래의 인터랙티브 가구의 방향에 대한 연구를 진행하였다. 본 연구는 사용자 태스크를 분석하기 위해 거실 이용에 관한 사용자 다이어리를 실시하였다. 어피니티 다이어그램 분석 방법과 아이데이션 워크샵을 통해 사용자 태스크를 파악하고 분석한 결과 미래 인터랙티브 가구의 방향은 자동화와 복합화의 특성을 세분화할 수 있었다. 이에 본 연구는 미래 인터랙티브 가구 특성을 세분화하였을 뿐만 아니라 추후 인터랙티브 가구 연구의 기초 자료로써 일조하는 의미가 있다.

  • This article aimed at identifying the concept of 'artistic-quality' of furniture and presenting the concept of 'artistic-quality based furniture creation' as the future direction of furniture design. For this, the authors approached to the theoretical background of the concept of artistic-quality, and then examined the prospect of practical application of the concept by analyzing the tendencies in today's art furniture. In this light, 'artistic-quality' of furniture could be understood as a quality that triggers the designer's venturous spirit throughout the process of furniture creation, so that the designer keeps seeking for the novelty and innovation in his experimental design and process. The feature of the current tendencies of art furniture in terms of the expression and effect, which could explain this venturous spirit of artistic-quality based furniture creation, could be summarized as follows; first, High-touch: Furniture that exemplifies the artistic-quality by specific texture of handmade quality, second, High-feeling: Furniture that arouses the new feelings and new concepts of furniture structure & function by experiments on new abstract forms of furniture, and third, High-mentality: Furniture that leads us to the sphere of subtle aesthetic recognition and mentality with its specific poetic expression and sensibility.

사회적 디자인이 적용된 가구디자인 사례 분석 연구 (Analysis of the Furniture Design Using Social Design)

  • The social design, which appeared at the end of the 19th century, is getting attention along with problems in modern society. The purpose of this paper is to analyze several cases of social furniture designs, and to present its necessity and future direction. It classifies the cases of furniture, lighting and design project regarding social design into three types. First is furniture design for social minority. Second is sustainable design, and third is social design that delivers social message. The expected effects of social design are cost-efficiency, sociality, and environment-friendliness. Also, social design requires certain direction which is first; the designer should recognize the minorities in the world. Second, the designer is obliged to accomplish social mission, and last, he or she should be aware that the design creates added values.

  • Full-fledged competitions in Korea have been held since 2000, while the competitions have shown a wide variety of chaos in holding, deploying, developing, declining, and suspending them from the context of uncountable needs and demands. At the present time, we have to establish an identity of the competitions, being aware of the importance of it. And positive efforts should be made to prepare the future. "Gyeonggi Furniture Design Contest" that started in 2003 and became 10th in 2012, should be evaluated by the performance and operation seriously. Therefore, as the GFDC related data for 10 years are diagnosed and analyzed thoroughly, its identity will be established. Finally, the competition will be able to create the progressive strategy and concrete measure to develop the steps on an international design competition.

필립 스탁과 론 아라드의 가구디자인 특성 비교 연구 (A Study on Comparing Characteristics of Philippe Starck's furniture design with Ron Arad's)

  • Design took a radical turn in the 1980's, deconstructing the rigid ideology of the Modernism, often with great humor. Contemporary representable Avant-garde designers, Philippe Starck and Ron Arad brazenly borrowed from the 'historical elements' of previous styles and created bio-morphic forms with whimsical names of furniture. This study is proposed to understand the diversity of contemporary design, by comparing these two furniture designers. It also covers the common factors in contemporary furniture design, and analyzes their individual differences and similarities in design. It helps to plan the foundation of design methods for 21C, and predict and respond to the future as a reference point. Philippe Starck links Romantic Rationalism within Minimal style and Ron Arad links Deconstructivism within High-tech style but both of them pursue of Organic concept design in their furniture through the concept of humanism. They are able to establish a base of contemporary furniture design by adapting new conceptual form, and design process for the general public.

존 파우슨(John Pawson)의 가구 디자인 특성 연구 (A Study on the Characteristic of Furniture Design of John Pawson)

  • Furniture has been developed in pursuit of human convenience and comfort, but nowadays it does not consider human users and gradually loses the essence of furniture. Especially furniture design that disregards the relation with space loses both the meaning and purpose of furniture. In this regards, it is necessary to understand the essence of furniture design and establish a design direction for future progress. Based on the relation between furniture and space, this paper intended to study on John Pawson's works that pursued the essence of design focusing on users, and propose a direction in a sense of real meaning for modern furniture design after exploring the characteristic of the furniture design of John Pawson. The study method of this paper was to investigate the design language of John Pawson and analyze his furniture in the morphological structural, functional, and material aspects. Based on such analysis, this study investigated the characteristics of the furniture design and found out what the core of the design that he pursued was. The scope of the study included the Independent Furniture that was restricted furniture collections of Driade and Spatial Furniture designed and installed at the stage of space construction. The study result showed that the design of John Pawson considered 'the suitability to a specific place' as important factor and furniture was planned at the stage of planning space. Each independent furniture defines all spaces in the morphological, lay-out and functional aspects of furniture and emphasizes their own property. As Spatial Furniture shares the function of spatial composition element, Pawson's furniture can be all called Spatial Furniture.

가구의 감성적 접근에 관한 연구 (A Study on Sensible Approaches to Furniture)

  • As the machinery-centered mechanism has been changing into human-entered digitalization and urbanization, industrial and social structures gradually become softer. Also in design, with the growing success in solving technological problems, a new dimensional concept is demanded, along with the expanded scope of design application. For the purpose of developing a furniture design contributing to better human life, the study aims to sufficiently examine senses and psychological conditions of human beings and explore the design practically meeting consumer's desires. It is necessary to systemize and establish the study on human senses as one of the scientific fields in the near future and work together with experts from a wide range of areas, by reflecting the outcomes of studies on furniture design. In addition, it is expected that exploration of sensible furniture meeting consumer's demands and effective understanding resulted problems will help such design applied to sociability and humanity problems in a reasonable manner as a sensible design.

  • This research is to provide basic information for future development of an effective way for design office furniture. The purpose of this study is to provide foundation data that enable to design various office furniture. This article investigates what are the basic elements of office furniture and how various type of office furniture elements represent in many catalogues, articles. It was to understand what parts of office furniture elements influence when design the office furniture. Based on the research, conclusion was made as following: Through the 11 brands, it is found that rectangular-closed desk and tall closest is dominant in domestic brand whereas both open and closed desks are used in overseas brand and the closet design is changed based on the desk type.
