The 'Authentic' Pleasures of Engineering Students (공대생의 '진정'한 즐거움: 과학기술특성화 대학 학생들의 서사적 정체성과 가치 체계에 관한 연구)

  • Science and engineering college students, so-called engineering students, account for nearly half of Korean university students. Existing research on younger generations poses a question of young generation after the financial crisis as a 'genuine' survivalist who carries out 'passionate labor' to pursue 'ordinary life' and 'banal stability'. They are diagnosed as failing to "locate the course of their lives in relation to a larger being that transcends self". But is there a value that can replace the survival value in front of us today, which is possible to be practiced and narrated by the young generation of Korea, especially the engineering students? What value (if any) is not captured by survival value, and what mechanisms and processes can and can easily be used by engineering students? Our research uses interviews conducted at one research-centered science and engineering university in a local metropolitan city, Korea. In conclusion, we emphasize that a transformed version of developmental nationalism, in which individual scientists/engineers pursue their 'authentic' passion and unintentionally contribute to the development of the nation through byproducts of their research, exerts strong influence upon the formation of young engineering students' narratives linking their selfhood and the good.

  • The proportion of students dropping out of universities is increasing year by year, and they are trying to identify risk factors and eliminate them in advance to prevent dropouts. However, there is a problem in the management of students at risk of dropping out and the forecast is inaccurate because crisis students are managed through the univariable analysis of specific risk factors. In this paper, we identify risk factors for university dropout and analyze multivariables through machine learning method to predict university dropout. In addition, we derive the optimization method by evaluation performance for various prediction methods and evaluate the correlation and contribution between risk factors that cause university dropout.

  • It is natural that The government should be responsibility for the fulfillment of obligation to prevent a notional life, accurate rescue and first-aid from various calamities. Although, The government policy is established a foundation that is reventing a national life and a property from the calamity with deciding of the fire line, that is not satisfied with taking precautions against a calamity. In case of the calamity there is always pointed the confrontation procedures, especially, In case of crisis The government is lacking to come to an developed country on account of system of the emergency rescue and first-aid. The prevention and provision are the most important thing with reference to a confrontation of the calamity. But calamity is happened without warning, so We should establish line of prompt rescue and first-aid lately that is very important thing. The First, We should get the single line of the rescue and first-aid through a integration and elimination in terms of a law of the emergency rescue and first-aid, but also we strengthen a line of a scene confrontation ability and speciality. To raise awareness of improving a rescue and ability of first-aid, through reinforcing the human and material equipment of The 119 rescue party to charge of emergency rescue and first-aid in effect.

Research Trend about the Development of White Biotech-Based Aromatic Compounds (화이트바이오텍기반 방향족화합물 개발에 관한 연구동향)

  • Due to the depleting petroleum reserve, recurring energy crisis, and global warming, it is necessary to study the development of white biotech-based aromatic chemical feedstock from renewable biomass for replacing petroleum-based one. In particular, the production of aromatic intermediates and derivatives in biosynthetic pathway of aromatic amino acids from glucose might be replaced by the production of petrochemical-based aromatic chemical feedstock including benzene-derived aromatic compounds. In this review, I briefly described the production technology for hydroquinone, catechol, adipic acid, shikimic acid, gallic acid, pyrogallol, vanillin, p-hydroxycinnamic acid, p-hydroxystyrene, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, indigo, and indole 3-acetic acid using metabolic engineering, bioconversion, and chemical process. The problems and possible solutions regarding development of production technology for competitive white biotech-based aromatic compounds were also discussed.

Study on Improving Environmental Impact Assessment of Carbon Sink in the Greenhouse Gas Evaluation Criteria for Railway Construction Projects for Carbon Neutrality (탄소 중립을 위한 철도 건설 사업 온실가스 평가항목의 탄소흡수원 분야 환경영향평가 개선 방안 연구)

  • The railway project is an essential green transportation tool that is considered suitable for the domestic and foreign policy direction of carbon neutrality, but there are some limitations, such as damaging important carbon absorption sources during construction. This study analyzed the environmental impact assessment related to carbon absorption sources of greenhouse gas evaluation items conducted during the railway project, and limitations and implications were derived. The analysis of environmental impact assessment guidelines related to railway projects and carbon absorption sources dealt with prediction and reduction methods related to carbon absorption sources, but guidelines, including environmentally friendly railway construction guidelines, lacked descriptions. Since the greenhouse gas environmental impact assessment, 83 railway project environmental impact assessments have been reviewed, but in some cases, carbon absorption-related predictions have not been implemented, or carbon absorption-related reduction measures have been insufficient. In addition, there were cases where there was a limit to calculating emissions and reduction or where the reduction value was insignificant compared to emissions. In order to supplement the environmental impact assessment in the field of carbon absorption sources related to railway construction projects, alternatives such as quantitative emission and low reduction calculation, review of the no net loss system using the total environmental resource system, and linkage with climate change impact assessment are needed.

  • The call-takers in the 119 General Situation Room are playing important roles in recognizing the first crisis situation such as fire, rescue, and emergency, and in starting up the response system. In particular, with regard to the emergency calls, the prompt and accurate surveillance can determine the patient's life as well as the prognosis. Based on April 8-December 31, 2014 Prehospital Care Reports in a metropolitan city, we analyzed the conversation turns and the conversation time between the agent and the caller, and the time of the conversation structure and sequence according to the reception routes and the severity of symptoms. The conversation analysis between the agent and the caller will be useful for the development and improvement of the action manual in the future.

  • The occurrence of fires in heavily populated multiplex buildings is a serious concern. It causes a great threat to many people and a serious social problem. Whenever this kind of fire happens, the authorities are busy preparing partial countermeasures to control the crisis situations. Luckily, the government has enforced a special law regarding safety supervision of majority-used buildings to prepare the basic countermeasures for the buildings' safety. Recently, the multiplex buildings which have multi type compounds have increased in size by getting bigger and bigger. As there are many people who would need to escape and the complicated structures like mazes in buildings of this type, it is not only difficult to prevent a fire but also easy to cause a large loss of lives. For a better fire safety supervision of the buildings, there needs to be passers and owners' good sense of safety, fire proof of the buildings and education of the fire authorities.

  • The continuous excessive consumption of fossil fuels is causing global warming, climate, and environmental crisis. Accordingly, hydrogen energy attracts attention among alternative energies of fossil fuels, because it has the advantage of not emitting pollutants and not having resource restrictions. Therefore, various studies are being conducted on a water electrolysis system for producing hydrogen and a fuel cell system for producing electricity by using hydrogen energy as a fuel. In this study, 3D ionomer models were produced by reflecting the excessive water condition of an anion-conductive ionomer material, which is one of the core materials of water electrolysis systems and fuel cells. Finally, by analyzing the structural stability and performance of the ionomer under an excessively hydrated condition, we suggested a performance improvement factor in the design of an anion conductive ionomer, a key material for water electrolysis systems and fuel cells.

  • In SOC(System On a Chip) designs, reducing time and cast for design verification is the most critical to improve the design productivity. this is mainly because the designs require co-verifying HW together with SW, which results in the increase of verification complexity drastically. In this paper, to cope with the verification crisis in SOC designs, we propose a new verification methodology, so called integrated co-verification, which lightly combine both co-simulation and co-emulation in unified and seamless way. We have applied our integrated co-verification to ARM/AMBA platform-based co-verification environment with a commercial co-verification tool, Seamless CVE, and a physical prototyping board. The experiments has shown clear advantage of the proposed technique over conventional ones.

The Box-office Success Factors of Films Utilizing Big Data-Focus on Laugh and Tear of Film Factors (빅데이터를 활용한 영화 흥행 분석 -천만 영화의 웃음과 눈물 요소를 중심으로)

  • The study aims to analyze factors of box office utilizing big data. The film industry has been increasing in the scale, but the discussion on analysis and prediction of box-office hit has not secured reliability because of failing in including all relevant data. 13 films have sold 10 million tickets until the present in Korea. The study demonstrated laughs and tears as an main interior factors of box-office hit films which showed more than 10 milling tickets power. First, the study collected terms relevant to laugh and tear. Next, it schematizes how frequently laugh and tear factors could be found along the 5-film-stage (exposition - Rising action - crisis - climax - ending) and revealed box-office hit films by genre. The results of the analysis would contribute to the construction of comprehensive database for the box office predictions on future scenarios.
