Effects of Mentoring Program's Development about New Nurses (신입간호사에 대한 멘토링 프로그램의 개발 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a mentoring program to support the professional growth of new nurses and to check the effectiveness. This mentoring program was developed by research teams and mentoring professionals based on Benner's theory. The data was analyzed using SPSS 18.0 program. The average of satisfaction of mentoring program in the mentees is 4.31 higher than mentor as 3.77. The highest scored item was 'need of mentoring program', the lowest one was 'mentoring program period and number of meetings'. Finally based on the results of the research, the duration of the mentoring program was changed to the six months. A steady support of the organizational policy about mentoring program is required to secure an outstanding nursing workforce.

An Analysis of Nurse's Perception of Internal Marketing Activities Affecting on Nurse's Turnover Intention, Nursing Task Performance and Nursing Productivity (간호사가 지각하는 내부마케팅활동 정도가 간호사의 이직의도, 간호업무수행 및 간호업무생산성에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose was to analyze the effects of internal marketing activity factors on nurse's turnover intention, nursing task performance and nursing productivity. Methods: The subjects were 355 nurses who were working at the 3 universities hospital over 1 year. The instruments were used of internal marketing activity factors(Lee, 2001), turnover intension(Lee, 1995), nursing task performance(Park, 1988) and nursing productivity(McNeese-Smith, 1996). Results: The mean score of internal marketing activity factors was 2.79, education and training 2.97, individualization 2.93, communication 2.87, promotion 2.76, work environment 2.63, reward system 2.62, and management vision for employee 2.61. The turnover intention was 3.12, nursing task performance 3.49, and nursing productivity 3.38. The internal marketing activity factors were negatively correlated with turnover intention(r=-0.37, p<0.0001), and positively correlated with nursing task performance(r=0.29, p<0.0001) and nursing productivity(r=0.30, p<0.0001). The key predictor of turnover intension was reward system, education and training, communication, and salary. They explained 35.0% of the total variance. In nursing task performance, communication, management vision for employee, salary and unit explained 26.0% of the total variance. In nursing productivity, communication, reward, education and training, salary, and position explained 24.0%. Conclusions: To increase nurse's nursing task performance and nursing productivity and to decrease turnover intention, it is necessary to concentrate on improving communication and reward system in the internal marketing activity factors. Through these activities, the effectiveness of internal marketing strategies will be enhanced and finally, nursing organizational outcome will be increased.

An Integrative Way of Process Analysis for Better Total Quality Management: Focusing on Drug Entity (종합적 질 관리 (TQM)를 위한 프로세스 분석 방법 -의약품 실체를 중심으로-)

  • Total quality management has been a focus of concern in recent years since some dissatisfaction with the results from implementation of quality assurance programs in the U.S. Many managerial methodologies and innovation guidelines from academic disciplines have been applied to promote TQM programs in the health field. This paper consists of two folds of aspects: firstly to examine TQM's managerial philosophy by comparing with the newly introduced managerial concepts in Business Reengineering; and then to introduce a method for an integrative way of process analysis, Entity Life-Cycle Diagram (ELCD) modeling. The analysis method was compared with Process Map, which is a well-known method for BR applications. To show effectiveness of ELCD modeling, a case of application was introduced using 'drug' as a target entity. With having TQM issues in mind, the result was reflected in designing Entity Relation Diagrams. The results of ELCD modeling turn out to be helpful in designing database related to quality monitoring, in that many monitoring check points can be identified in a systematic way and that queries cross-sectional over organizational boundaries can be generated with a consistent view focusing on the drug use as a single process. Full evaluation of the analysis method remains to be studied until the completion of the information system under construction. But as long as TQM is based on a process-oriented view and needs supports from information system, ELCD can be one of the appropriate choice as a tool for the process analysis.

A Study on Use Case Analysis and Adoption of NLP: Analysis Framework and Implications (NLP 활용 사례 분석 및 도입에 관한 연구: 분석 프레임워크와 시사점)

  • With the recent application of deep learning to Natural Language Processing (NLP), the performance of NLP has improved significantly and NLP is emerging as a core competency of organizations. However, when encountering NLP use cases that are sporadically reported through various online and offline channels, it is often difficult to come up with a big picture of how to understand and interpret them or how to connect them to business. This study presents a framework for systematically analyzing NLP use cases, considering the characteristics of NLP techniques applicable to almost all industries and business functions, environmental changes in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and the effectiveness of adopting NLP reflecting all business functional areas. Through solving research questions based on the framework, the usefulness of it is validated. First, by accumulating NLP use cases and pivoting them around the business function dimension, we derive how NLP techniques are used in each business functional area. Next, by synthesizing related surveys and reports to the accumulated use cases, we draw implications for each business function and major NLP techniques. This work promotes the creation of innovative business scenarios and provides multilateral implications for the adoption of NLP by systematically viewing NLP techniques, industries, and business functional areas. The use case analysis framework proposed in this study presents a new perspective for research on new technology use cases. It also helps explore strategies that can dramatically improve organizational performance through a holistic approach that encompasses all business functional areas.

Organizational Characteristics and Desired Quality Attributes of Enterprise Systems (조직 특성에 따른 기업 정보시스템 품질 속성 선호도 분석)

  • In this paper, we study the relationships between organization characteristics and desired software quality attributes of enterprise systems. We collected data from three client organizations in three different domains (auto manufacturer, insurance services firm, and government agency) that adopted enterprise software of the same software vendor. Our analysis discovers that capability is a more important attribute to the manufacturing and insurance firms than the government agency. Usability is ranked the highest among other attributes for the government agency and reliability for the manufacturing firm. The relationships identified in this study will help enterprise systems vendors predict their customer needs and, ultimately, increase effectiveness and efficiency in their software development processes. Such findings will be specially useful when software vendors develop enterprise software for a venture firm by enabling them to meet the customer needs customized by the organization haracteristics while staying within the incubating firm's limited budget.

Effects of Tax Officials' Self-leadership on their Empowerment and Organization Commitment (세무공무원의 셀프리더십이 임파워먼트와 조직몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of tax officials' perceived self-leadership on their empowerment and organization commitment, improve the effectiveness of human resource management of tax organizations, and provide measures for effective organization management. The study results show that the more their self-leadership improves, the more their empowerment improves. Firstly, the reason why their self-leadership has a positive influence on empowerment is that they set their own purpose about their task by themselves, make efforts to achieve the goals, and do their job with optimistic and constructive attitude. Secondly, the study results that their empowerment has a positive influence on organization commitment show that organizational members with high-level empowerment attach significance to their work and it makes their organization commitment high. To maximize organization performance, tax officials should recognize their work's value, meaning, and importance by himself, be equipped with sufficient knowledge for their work, apply their leverage and control in their job, have their self-determination, and improve their organization commitment.

  • The article deals with problems of innovation development on a network basis, which require effective mechanisms of innovation communications. In research the organizational aspects of ICT infrastructure development for innovation networks sustainable development based on cooperative marketing principles is considered. The proposed research idea is based on the idea that ICT implementation is based not only on the operational approach for innovation management as a factor of efficiency of internal communications, but also on knowledge economy and post-industrial economy trends. Therefore, the purpose of study is to develop an ICT model of innovation infrastructure to improve its effectiveness (strategic character) and efficiency (operative character) through increasing the efficiency of network communication interactions. Creation of information space and communication tools to support innovation network sustainable development and cooperation activities in research is proposed to be solved with the help of specialized ICT platform. It is shown, that ICT platform of innovation cooperation innovation network is important tool for common work of participants. ICT platform is considered as an integrated information system designed to automate business processes related to the sustainable development of innovation network, segment management and integration with HEI information systems and industrial cooperation. The main factors that determine the need to use a special ICT platform for innovation network cooperation were considered. The main issues of concurrent engineering (C-technology) application in high-technology industries and innovation cooperation for integrated product development were studied.

A Journey to Action Research in a Clinical Nursing Context (임상간호현장에서의 실행연구 여정)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of Action Research (AR) approach in nursing. Methods: Participants were 64 perioperative nurses recruited from C hospital in Gwangju, Korea. The nurses were engaged in the project through 2 cycles of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. A mixed-methods design was used to examine changes in participants and their knowledge management practice. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 program and qualitative reflection data underwent content analysis. Results: During the project, participants developed standardized pre-operative checklists and opened an Internet Cafe to better manage their perioperative nursing information. At the end of the project, there was a significant increase in nurses' knowledge management (p=.015) and the rate of surgical material prescription errors decreased from 8.0% to 2.9%. Core AR project team members' teamwork skills and organizational commitment increased significantly (p=.040, p=.301, respectively). The main themes that emerged from the qualitative data were learning how to solve problems in practice, facilitating team activities through motivation, barriers of large participation, and rewarded efforts and inflated expectations. Conclusion: The AR project contributed to empowering participants to solve local problems. AR is a useful methodology to promote changes in practices and research participants.

Inpatient Outcomes by Nurse Staffing Grade in Korea (간호관리료차등제 등급별 입원 환자의 건강 결과)

  • Objectives: This study investigates the relationship between nurse staffing levels and differences in patient outcomes in terms of average length of stay, in-hospital mortality rate and 30-day death rate in order to evaluate the effectiveness of a policy that differentiates fees for inpatients on the basis of nurse-to-bed ratios. Methods: We obtained information on inpatients from health insurance claims data published by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service(HIRA) in 2008, organizational factors(type of hospital, ownership) from the records of the hospital report system in 2008, and nurse staffing levels, which were graded on a scale of 1 to 7, from data compiled between December 15, 2007, and September 20, 2008. The data were segregated according to type of hospital and quarter and finally 3,517 records of 1,182 hospitals were analyzed using multi-level analysis. Results: The average length of stay in grade 1~6 hospitals was lower than that in grade 7 ones, but the difference was much below one day. No significant difference was found among different grades in tertiary hospitals. Further, variations in staffing levels did not result in any significant difference in the in-hospital mortality rate and 30-day death rate. Conclusions: High nurse staffing levels did not result in better patient outcomes compared with low staffing levels. We therefore recommend modifying the above nurse staffing policy so as to make it more effective in improving patient outcomes.

A Study on Client Violence Against Social Workers: in the Field of Child Protection Services (사회복지 실천현장의 클라이언트 폭력 연구: 아동보호서비스 현장을 중심으로)

  • Based on the assumption that client violence against social workers may impede the effectiveness of social work intervention, this study investigated the prevalence and negative effects of client violence among child protection workers. A national sample of 207 child protection workers participated to the study. The results showed that 62.8%(n=130) of the respondents experienced violence by children's parents or other guardians in the year of 2007. This prevalence was similar level to that of other service fields. However, perception about client violence of the respondents was more serious than workers in other fields. Respondents who have experienced client violence showed emotional reactions such as angry, burnout, frustrated. This emotional reaction impacted more on woman respondents. This study further found that client violence had negative effects on such work-related variables as workers job satisfaction and intention to leave.
