Evaluation of full-order method for extreme wind effect estimation considering directionality

  • The estimation of the extreme wind load (effect) under a mean recurrence interval (MRI) is an important task in the wind-resistant design for the structure. It can be predicted by either first-order method or full-order method, depending on the accuracy and complexity requirement. Although the first-order method with the consideration of wind directionality has been proposed, less work has been done on the full-order method, especially with the wind directionality. In this study, the full-order method considering the wind directionality is proposed based on multivariate joint probability distribution. Meanwhile, considering two wind directions, the difference of the corresponding results based on the first-order method and full-order method is analyzed. Finally, based on the measured wind speed data, the discrepancy between these two methods is investigated. Results show that the difference between two approaches is not obvious under larger MRIs while the underestimation caused by the first-order method can be larger than 15% under smaller MRIs. Overall, the first-order method is sufficient to estimate the extreme wind load (effect).

RELATIONS OF DAGUM DISTRIBUTION BASED ON DUAL GENERALIZED ORDER STATISTICS

  • The dual generalized order statistics is a unified model which contains the well known decreasingly ordered random variables like order statistics and lower record values. With this definition we give simple expressions for single and product moments of dual generalized order statistics from Dagum distribution. The results for order statistics and lower records are deduced from the relations derived and some computational works are also carried out. Further, a characterizing result of this distribution on using the conditional moment of the dual generalized order statistics is discussed. These recurrence relations enable computation of the means, variances and covariances of all order statistics for all sample sizes in a simple and efficient manner. By using these relations, we tabulate the means, variances, skewness and kurtosis of order statistics and record values of the Dagum distribution.

  • This paper is to review and organize performance strategies, issues, and measures for the efficient operation of order picking function. Order picking is the process of retrieving items from storage to meet a specific customer order, which is known to be the most labor-intensive and costly function among all the warehouse functions. This function is also important in that it has a critical impact on downstream customer service. For understanding the background of order picking and related performance issues, we will briefly introduce warehousing functions. Then we will introduce material handling within a warehouse and order picking strategies. Lastly, we will discuss about performance issues and measures in the domain of order picking operations. Productive and quality measures will be reviewed in more detail.

EPs-TFP 마이닝 기법을 이용한 단백질 Disorder/Order 지역 분류 (Protein Disorder/Order Region Classification Using EPs-TFP Mining Method)

  • 단백질은 서열의 disorder 구역이 생물학적 반응을 일으켜 order로 변하는 과정에서 그 기능을 하게 되므로 서열 데이터에서 disorder 구역과 order 구역을 분리하는 것은 단백질의 3차 구조 및 특성을 예측하는데 반드시 필요하다. 따라서 이 논문에서는 효율적인 disorder와 order 구역 분류를 위해서 단백질의 특정 특징에 치우치지 않는 분류 결과를 얻으면서, 분류 속도를 향상 시킬 수 있도록 서열 데이터를 이용한 분류/예측 기법을 제안한다. 출현패턴 기반의 EPs-TFP 기법은 중복 출현패턴이 제거된 필수 출현패턴만을 이용하는 분류/예측 기법이다. 이 분류 기법은 disorder 구역의 서열 출현패턴들을 발견하며, 이러한 서열 출현패턴은 disorder 구역에서는 빈발하지만 order 구역에서는 상대적으로 빈발하지 않는 패턴들이다. 또한 제안 알고리즘의 성능 향상을 위해서 기존의 P-tree, T-tree 개념의 TFP 기법을 확장하여 분류/예측 기법으로 적용하였다. EPs-TFP 기법의 성능평가를 위해서 Disprot 4.9와 CASP 7 데이터를 활용하였고, disorder/order 구역을 분류한 결과, 민감도 73.6, 특이도 69.5, 정확도 74.2를 보였다.

Moments of Order Statistics from Doubly Truncated Linear-Exponential Distribution

  • In this paper we establish some recurrence relations for both single and product moments of order statistics from a doubly truncated linear- exponential distribution with increasing hazard rate. These recurrence relations would enable one to compute all the higher order moments of order statistics for all sample sizes from those of the lower order in a simple recursive way. In addition, percentage points of order statistics are also discussed. These generalize the corresponding results for the linear- exponential distribution with increasing hazard rate derived by Balakrishnan and Malik(1986)

  • In the present paper we derive the distribution of single order statistics, joint distribution of two order statistics and the distribution of product and quotient of two order statistics when the independent random variables are from continuous Kumaraswamy distribution. In particular the distribution of product and quotient of extreme order statistics and consecutive order statistics have also been obtained. The method used is based on Mellin transform and its inverse.

  • A data-adaptive order selection procedure is proposed for local polynomial nonparametric regression. For each given polynomial order, bias and variance are estimated and the adaptive polynomial order that has the smallest estimated mean squared error is selected locally at each location point. To estimate mean squared error, empirical bias estimate of Ruppert (1995) and local polynomial variance estimate of Ruppert, Wand, Wand, Holst and Hossjer (1995) are used. Since the proposed method does not require fitting polynomial model of order higher than the model order, it is simpler than the order selection method proposed by Fan and Gijbels (1995b).

Second Order Bounce Back Boundary Condition for the Latice Boltzmann Fluid Simulation

  • A new bounce back boundary method of the second order in error is proposed for the lattice Boltzmann fluid simulation. This new method can be used for the arbitrarily irregular lattice geometry of a non-slip boundary. The traditional bounce back boundary condition for the lattice Boltzmann simulation is of the first order in error. Since the lattice Boltzmann method is the second order scheme by itself, a boundary technique of the second order has been desired to replace the first order bounce back method. This study shows that, contrary to the common belief that the bounce back boundary condition is unilaterally of the first order, the second order bounce back boundary condition can be realized. This study also shows that there exists a generalized bounce back technique that can be characterized by a single interpolation parameter. The second order bounce back method can be obtained by proper selection of this parameter in accordance with the detailed lattice geometry of the boundary. For an illustrative purpose, the transient Couette and the plane Poiseuille flows are solved by the lattice Boltzmann simulation with various boundary conditions. The results show that the generalized bounce back method yields the second order behavior in the error of the solution, provided that the interpolation parameter is properly selected. Coupled with its intuitive nature and the ease of implementation, the bounce back method can be as good as any second order boundary method.

  • In this paper we propose Using Higher Order Neuron on the Supervised Learning Machine of the Kohonen Feature Map. The architecture of proposed model adopts the higher order neuron in the input layer of Kohonen Feature Map as a Supervised Learning Machine. It is able to estimate boundary on input pattern space because or the higher order neuron. However, it suffers from a problem that the number of neuron weight increases because of the higher order neuron in the input layer. In this time, we solved this problem by placing the second order neuron among the higher order neuron. The feature of the higher order neuron can be mapped similar inputs on the Kohonen Feature Map. It also is the network with topological mapping. We have simulated the proposed model in respect of the recognition rate by XOR problem, discrimination of 20 alphabet patterns, Mirror Symmetry problem, and numerical letters Pattern Problem.
