  • The value of Dongeuibogam has been officially acknowledged as a Memory of the World. However, we should not overlook the forward-looking value of Dongeuibogam in addition to its backward-looking value. For the past 200 years, Western medicine has attained great achievements in therapeutic medicine based on Descartes' mind-body dualism, which focuses on the body as a separate entity from the mind. Recently, Western medicine modified its previously one-sided track into a new orientation towards holistic mind-body medicine in recognition of the two as an organic whole. At this point in time, it is essential to draw attention to the forward-looking value of Dongeuibogam, which pioneered mind-body medicine based on the medicinal philosophy of Jing Qi Shen more than 400 years ago.

  • Endocytosis of the Notch ligand, DeltaD, by mind bomb1 is indispensable for activation of Notch in cell fate determination, proliferation, and differentiation during zebrafish neurogenesis. Loss of mind bomb1 activity as an E3 Ubiquitin ligase causes the accumulation of deltaD at the plasma membrane and results in the ectopic neurogenic phenotype by activation of Notch in early zebrafish embryogenesis. However, the regulatory mechanism of deltaD during neurogenesis is not identified yet. This study aims to analyze the pathway of mib1 and deltaD after endocytosis in vivo during zebrafish embryogenesis. Mind bomb1 and deltaD are co-localized into autophagosome and mutant form of mind bomb1 fails to cargo deltaD into autophagosomes. These findings suggest that mind bomb I mediates deltaD regulation by autophagy in an ubiquitin-dependent manner during zebrafish embryogenesis.

  • The basic equation of body and mind that can be represented as body and mind based on love model of Romeo and Juliet is presented in this paper. In order verify validity for physical idea of unification for body and mind when the external force is applied in the basic equation. We display the time series and phase portrait for nonlinear behavior, and this paper confirms the point of difference between body-mind neutral monism and body-mind dualism.

  • Youlgok's thoughts on mind are represented both in his one-road theory of mind, nature, emotion and will and in his one-way theory of Li riding on a dynamic Ki. The one-road theory has two meanings. First, it means that mind, nature, emotion and will are not separate things, but those three things other than mind belong to mind, which only different phases of mind. Second, it means that human desire and moral will, inborn nature and dispositional nature, four clues and seven emotions are not sets of mind opposing each other forever, but sets of mind which can be sublated in the end. The one-way theory of Li riding on a dynamic Ki explains the relation of mind and nature in terms of Li and Ki. In Youlgok's theory, Ki(mind) is the subject of operating dynamics and Li(nature) is the content of operated results. Nature appeared through operating mind is emotion. Li riding on a dynamic Ki means both that Li superintends Ki(operates Ki's standard), and that it realizes itself through Ki. In a word, mind is the subject realizing nature, and mind operates under the control of nature. In this way, Youlgok pays attention on both Li's norm and Ki's dynamic.

  • This thesis is a study on Zhuang-zi's theory of self-cultivation. "Mind" is an important concept in Zhuang-zi's philosophy. According to Zhuang-zi "mind" has dual character and its basic state includes the mind which is in keeping with Tao and the mind which is not. They separately refer to mind's natural state(靈府靈臺 之心) and unnatural state(成心). The former is compatible and harmonious while the latter is contradictory. The accomplishment of mind eventually means transcending unnatural mind and attaining mind's natural state. To realize natural mind, Zhuang-zi propose xinzhai(心齋)and zuowang(坐忘).

  • This paper is designed to characterize the concept of flexibility of mind and analyze relationship between flexibility of mind and divergent thinking in view of mathematical problem solving. This study shows that flexibility of mind is characterized by two constructs, ability to overcome fixed mind in stage of problem understanding and ability to shift a viewpoint in stage of problem solving process, Through the analysis of writing test, we come to the conclusion that students who overcome fixed mind surpass others in divergent thinking and so do students who are able to shift a viewpoint.

  • This study set off to explore the effect of interactive videos on developing mind mappings skills required for the common first-joint year students at Umm Al-Qura University. Towards this end, the experimental research design of a quasi-experimental of two experimental groups was adopted. The research tools consisted of an achievement test of the cognitive aspects of mind mapping skills and a product evaluation form of mind mapping skills. Results showed statistically significant differences at the significance level (α 0.05) between the mean scores of the two experimental groups who studied the educational video regardless of the type of video in the pre-post cognitive test of the mind mapping skills and the form of product evaluation. Besides, there are statistically significant differences at the significance level (0.05≥α) between the mean scores of the first experimental group who studied the conventional educational video and the mean scores of the second experimental group who studied the interactive educational video. This significant difference was in the posttest of mind mapping skills and in favor of the group who studied the interactive educational video. Nevertheless, there were no statistically significant differences at the significance level (0.05≥α) between the mean scores of the first and second experimental groups in the post-application of the product evaluation form of mind mapping skills. The researcher recommended using the interactive video in teaching courses to common first-year students. It also recommends organizing courses for the faculty members to train them on using interactive videos in their teaching.

  • Current neuroscience views the mind-body problem from the monistic perspective which claims that the human mind is the result of brain activity and that the mind shuts down when the brain does. However, a considerable number of lay people still believe in the existence of the soul and the afterlife, concepts that are hard to explain from the monistic perspective. This study examines whether lay people think that the mind of the dead is capable of exceeding the physical constraints if they believe that such mind exists. After reading one of three vignettes which describes the state of the protagonist as alive, dead, or brain dead, the participants evaluated the protagonist's general mental capacity and transcendental ability to obtain new information. The participants rated that the dead protagonist had more 'transcendental ability to obtain new information' than the alive one if they evaluated high general mental capacity to the protagonist. In addition, unlike the alive condition, in the dead and the brain dead condition, there was a correlation between the general mind capacity rating and the transcendental ability rating. The results suggest that lay people expect the mind of the alive and the dead to be different, as they believe the latter's general mind capacity connotes transcendental ability. We also found that the participants' religiosity affected their beliefs about the transcendental ability of dead person.

A Study on Heart-Mind of Daesoon Thought from the Perspective of Neo-Confucianism: Focused on Numinous Emptiness, Wise-awakening, and Divine Beings (주자학으로 본 대순사상의 마음에 관한 연구 - 허령, 지각, 신명을 중심으로 -)

  • This study aims to look into Daesoon Thought from the perspective of Neo-Confucianism. Numinous emptiness (虛靈), wise-awakening (知覺), and divine beings (神明) in the Scripture of the Black Tortoise (Hyeonmu-gyeong) are often mentioned as characteristics of the mind in Neo-Confucianism. Accordingly, this research take up the 'Che-Yong (substance, 體 and function, 用)' of mind by classifying numinous emptiness as Origin-Substance (本體), wise-awaking as function, and divine beings as subjects. Numinous emptiness enables an individual to have been born with Li (理) of Taegeuk (太極), which is a mandate from Heaven and the nature of humanity; whereas one embodies spirit and brightness mind based on Origin-Substance. This numinous emptiness of mind is precisely the mind-spirit. Wise-awakening is a function of mind, which actually awakens numinous emptiness (理) and objects (氣). The mind which realizes the Li of Taegeuk as numinous emptiness is conscientiousness and can be taken as a Dao-Mind. The mind which desires objects refers to the Human Mind or a selfish motive. Such propensity in terms of wise-awakening determines the state of mind. One should reach the state of a quiet mind by wisely awakening through the scripture. Divine beings correspond to metaphysical Origin-Substance and physical objects respectively. In addition, they comprehend all and preside over wise-awakening as subjects. The subject recognizes wise-awakening and responds to it. Mind is a path traveled upon by divine beings as they enter and exit. In this regard, the human mind refers to the organ used by immanent deities, which accumulates physical senses, innermost mental processes, and awakened activities. Furthermore, Transcendental deities also come in and out through mental correspondence, leading to changes in one's physical constitution or personality. This paper focuses on the mind perceived in Daesoon Thought as follows: first, besides the existing spiritual perspective, the research takes a view on surveying numinous emptiness, wise-awakening, and divine beings in Neo-Confucianism. Secondly, the Che-Yong of mind is closely looked into by means of innate numinous emptiness as Che and wise-awakening as Yong. Lastly, the essence, energy, and divinity as well as spiritual soul and physical soul are mentioned according to the concept of an immanent deity. The paper also clarifies the fact that divine beings preside over the mind as subjects.
