  • The International Maritime Organization (IMO) mandates that evacuation analysis must be performed at the design stage to ensure the safety of passengers aboard ships. Therefore, ship designers are required to conduct this evacuation analysis during the ship design process. Evacuation analysis begins with creating an escape diagram that outlines the routes from each cabin to the designated assembly stations based on the designed plans. Subsequently, necessary parameters for escape analysis are measured and recorded, and the analysis is conducted using an Excel-based program. This process is manual and time-consuming. Additionally, due to the frequent design changes characteristic of passenger ships, this process must be repeated multiple times. Hence, this study proposes a method to automate this analysis process. The proposed method in this study starts with a preprocessing step to extract key components from 2D drawings. Following this, it distinguishes spaces such as cabins, corridors, and doors within the processed drawings. Using the identified spaces, it then searches for the shortest evacuation routes from each cabin to the assembly station. Based on the identified routes, the method automatically performs the simplified evacuation analysis as prescribed by IMO regulations. Applying the algorithm for automated escape analysis to Ro-Pax vessels demonstrated that the analysis time per ship, which previously took about 15 days, can be reduced to less than 10 minutes.

  • This study aims to find out what tourists' interests and perceptions are like through online big data. Big data for a total of five years from 2018 to 2022 were collected using the Textom program. Sentiment analysis was performed with the collected data. Sentiment analysis expresses the necessity and emotions of city tours in online reviews written by tourists using city tours. The purpose of this study is to extract and analyze keywords representing satisfaction. The sentiment analysis program provided by the big data analysis platform "TEXTOM" was used to study positives and negatives based on sentiment analysis of tourists' online reviews. Sentiment analysis was conducted by collecting reviews related to the city tour. The degree of positive and negative emotions for the city tour was investigated and what emotional words were analyzed for each item. As a result of big data sentiment analysis to examine the emotions and sentiments of tourists about the city tour, 93.8% positive and 6.2% negative, indicating that more than half of the tourists are positively aware. This paper collects tourists' opinions based on the analyzed sentiment analysis, understands the quality characteristics of city tours based on the analysis using the collected data, and sentiment analysis provides important information to the city tour platform for each region.

  • This paper proposes a simplified elastic-plastic analysis procedure using the penalty factors presented in the Code Case N-779 for strain-based fatigue assessment of nuclear safety class 1 components under severe seismic loads such as safety shutdown earthquake and beyond design-basis earthquake. First, a simplified elastic-plastic analysis procedure for strain-based fatigue assessment of nuclear safety class 1 components under the severe seismic loads was proposed based on the analysis result for the simplified elastic-plastic analysis procedure in the Code Case N-779 and the stress categories corresponding to normal operation and seismic loads. Second, total strain amplitude was calculated directly by performing finite element cyclic elastic-plastic seismic analysis for a hot leg nozzle in pressurizer surge line subject to combined loading including deadweight, pressure, seismic inertia load, and seismic anchor motion, as well as was derived indirectly by applying the proposed analysis procedure to the finite element elastic stress analysis result for each load. Third, strain-based fatigue assessment was implemented by applying the strain-based fatigue acceptance criteria in the ASME B&PV Code, Sec. III, Subsec. NB, Article NB-3200 and by using the total strain amplitude values calculated. Last, the total strain amplitude and the fatigue assessment result corresponding to the simplified elastic-plastic analysis were compared with those using the finite element elastic-plastic seismic analysis results. As a result of the comparison, it was identified that the proposed analysis procedure can derive reasonable and conservative results.

  • Ground response analysis is one of the most important and most commonly encountered problems in geotechnical earthquake engineering. It is a prerequisite step for liquefaction assessment of saturated soil or the pseudo-static and dynamic analysis of geotechnical structures. A number of techniques have been developed for ground response analysis. In this study, ground response analyses were performed using the computer programs that are currently being used domestically. From these analyses, the analysis techniques applied to the programs were compared and analyzed. The results of ground response analyses were compared as follows: 1) 1-dimensional analysis vs. 2-dimensional analysis; 2) equivalent linear analysis vs. nonlinear analysis.

  • Vibration responses of a centrifugal pump required dynamic analysis for seismic qualification, were calculated by using spectrum analysis, which is known to be very simple compared with time domain analysis. Modal analysis was performed and the results were utilized in the spectrum analysis. The vibration responses calculated from the spectrum analysis were more conservative than those from the time domain analysis, that is, the former can be used as safer in design process. The pump was qualified for the specified seismic service conditions as specified in IEEE 344-1987. The maximum stresses were less than allowable stress limits. Based on the analysis results, it is concluded that the pump meets all the dynamic requirements of the applicable codes, standards, and technical specification.

  • Purpose: In the literature power analysis in experimental studies is often executed and reported falsely. This descriptive study was done to promote the correct application of the Cohen(1988)'s power analysis method. Method: Articles of experimental studies from a nursing journal were selected and reviewed to examine the uses of and the reports on the power analysis process. Also, the appropriate power analysis process was discussed with an example of the most common experimental design, an independent two-group design with t test analysis plan. Result: Around half the experimental studies examined reported that they carried out power analysis. Cohen's method was the most frequently utilized but with accuracy in question. Conclusion: Power analysis to estimate sample size is the interplay between alpha, power, and effect size, and other factors in the case of t test analysis. Researchers should have a clear understanding of how to apply the Cohen's power analysis method so they do not produce poorly estimated sample sizes.

  • For years, many studies have mainly been investigated in a complicated human motion analysis. Recently, many motion analysis equipments have been studied and developed. Therefore, the more complex human movement analyses are possible, we have enabled us to perform more and more complicated human movement analyses. A Three-dimensional(3D) motion analysis on of the several methods is a useful tool for analyzing the human motion analysis. The purpose of this study was to develop the 3D human motion analysis using a kalman filter algorithm and a gyro sensor. The algorithm and sensor were used to human motion analysis with high-speed motion capture. In this study, the developed system will be adapted to facilitate golf swing analysis. Using the developed system, golfers and coaches who do not have advanced biomechanical knowledge can easily be used to their golf swing analysis. Future study is necessary for more practical and efficient area such as other sports industries, 3D game industries, rehabilitation training, etc..

  • Application of "advanced analysis" methods suitable for non-linear analysis and design of steel frame structures permits direct and accurate determination of ultimate system strengths, without resort to simplified elastic methods of analysis and semi-empirical specification equations. However, the application of advanced analysis methods has previously been restricted to steel frames comprising only compact sections that are not influenced by the effects of local buckling. A concentrated plasticity method suitable for practical advanced analysis of steel frame structures comprising non-compact sections is presented in this paper. The pseudo plastic zone method implicitly accounts for the effects of gradual cross-sectional yielding, longitudinal spread of plasticity, initial geometric imperfections, residual stresses, and local buckling. The accuracy and precision of the method for the analysis of steel frames comprising non-compact sections is established by comparison with a comprehensive range of analytical benchmark frame solutions. The pseudo plastic zone method is shown to be more accurate and precise than the conventional individual member design methods based on elastic analysis and specification equations.

  • In this paper, seismic analysis of LNG storage tank is performed. The analysis models are both pipe and pipe, wall and guide of LNG tank. And equivalent static analysis and response spectrum analysis are applied to these two models, respectively. From the analysis, deflections and equivalent stresses are compared. Results show that response spectrum analysis is more accurate than equivalent static analysis for LNG storage tank.
