  • This study is to investigate the type, process and context of inquiry activities in life science textbooks based on the seventh curriculum. Six kinds of science textbooks were analysed. Three units of life science were analysed; 'the structure of living things', 'digestion and circulation' and 'respiration and excretion', As result of analysis, types, processes and skills, and context of inquiry were not balanced, it is suggested that learners be educated with complementary of this aspects. To develope the science textbook on the basis of aims and objectives of curriculum, it is proposed that the inquiry activities presented in science textbooks be examined, and the framework to evaluate inquiry activities be reflected on the standard of science textbook authorization

  • Science museum are the typical channels for students to experience science as outside school science lessons. Hereupon, in this study, middle school earth science contents system and achievement standards by the 7th Curriculum analyzed exhibit of science museum for basis. As a result, relevance between accomplishment level and Exhibition was insufficient in curriculum, and the area of geology in the exhibition overemphasized. Therefore, exhibit that consider curriculum is required. hereafter, Result of this study presents display of science museum and direction of education.

  • This study is to investigate the 7th curriculum of computer education and its implementation by analyzing 1. computer H/W distribution status, 2. number of schools to select computer subject, 3. professional competency of computer teachers, 4. job loads for computer teachers, 5. instructional materials used for computer subjects, 5. problems of curriculum implementation, 7. confronting instructional problems. Data was collected from the survey to 191 teachers who are from teacher in-service programs in July, 2005, in-depth interview and national educational statistics. Suggestions for the curriculum revision were made.

  • This study is to survey and analyze the opinion of teachers about the relevance of educational content in the 7th mathematics curriculum. For the purpose of this study, we analyze the result of the questionnaire survey which consists in the question about the relevance(Quantity, level, validity) of educational content in the 7th mathematics curriculum. 515 elementary school teachers, 314 middle school teachers, and 323 high school teachers are participated in this survey. 75 percent of elementary school teachers think that the educational quantity must be reduced for the relevance of educational content. So do 50 percent of secondary school teachers. Both of them think that the number of topic must be reduced for the relevance. In special, this study shows that the response rate about the object which is related with interest is very low compared with any other mathematics education objects. So, it is necessary to pay more attention to the object which is related with interest.

  • An analysis was done on the “inquiry sections” of Earth Science chapters of 10th grade science textbooks. The Inquiry sections were classified into different types and the frequencies of basic process skills, integrated process skills, and inquiry activities were measured in section to find out whether they sufficiently satisfy the requirements based on the 7th National Curriculum. The number of selected science textbooks that have been used in high school for this study were eleven. The number of inquiry tasks were on an average of 24.0. The types of inquiry sections and the elements of basic and integrated process skills were different in every textbooks. The number of inquiry activities were also different and analyzed more than those presented. They were not integrated activities but presented as scientific process skills. The basic process skills and integrated process skills presented in textbooks were $16\%\;and\;77.2\%$, respectively. However, the distribution of two kinds of process skills were analyzed to be $45.6\%\;and\;55.4\%$, respectively. In the process skills, the frequencies of inferring $(49.5\%)$ and data interpretation (68.7%) were the highest; however, the other process skills including recognizing problem, formulating hypothesis and generalization were not even presented in any of the text books. Due to the lack of the definitions of Science process skills and inquiry activities in the 7th National Curriculum, each text book defined these terms differently. It suggests that the meaning of inquiry, science process skills, and inquiry activities should be operationally defined in the national curriculum and the criteria for construction of inquiry activities are required.

  • In this study, the readability of the texts in the third and the sixth grade science textbooks developed under the 2007 revised science curriculum were analyzed in terms of word and sentence units. In the word unit analyses, the levels of the words in the texts were classified into four categories, 1st to 4th levels. In the sentence unit analyses, the sentences in the texts were classified either a simple sentence or compound/complex sentences, and the average length of the sentences was also calculated. The results indicated that more than 90 percents of the words in the 2007 revised science textbooks were classified as the 1st to the 3rd levels. However, both the kinds and the frequencies of the words in the 2007 revised science textbooks were increased in comparison of those in the 7th science textbooks. In particular, it was found that the increasement in the 3rd grade science textbook was noticeable. The ratio of the compound/complex sentences in the 2007 revised science textbooks were increased in comparison of those in the 7th science textbooks. The average length of the sentences in the 2007 revised science textbooks was also increased.

  • This paper compares the four official romanization systems (1948, 1959, 1984 and 2000) and analyzes the third- and fourth-year primary school English textbooks and teacher's guides in terms of romanization of personal names. This study is conducted with the assumption that the inconsistent use of romanization is due to two major causes, i.e., the frequent changes of the formal romanization systems and the exclusion of the romanization system from the school curriculum. The current third- and fourth-year primary school English text books (Ministry of Education, 2001) are chosen for the analysis because they are the first primary school English textbooks to be implemented based on the 7th National Curriculum. The study found that the textbooks and teacher's guides did not state which romanization system they were following and were not consistent in romanizing personal names. This study suggests including the current official romanization system in the current primary school curriculum and outlines a strategy for teaching the romanization system which suits the curriculum.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the current state of the contents of the mathematics education that are implemented for 3-10 grade students in Korea. To satisfy the purpose of the study, we conducted a nationwide questionnaire to get opinions from students on the relevance of the mathematics curriculum. 4,158 elementary school students, 4,571 middle school students, and 1,653 high school students participated in this survey. Many students feel that the quantity is relevant, so the requirement of reduction in quantity is a little. Also secondary students feel that mathematics is difficult and this condition becomes more serious in proportion as grade. Finally we noticed the difference between sexes, grades, and tracks of studying in every question.

  • The 7th National Curriculum Guidelines strongly suggest the use of ICT for schools, and one of the best way to integrate ICT could be the implementation of Integrated Learning Systems (ILS). ILS is known to be a comprehensive system for learning that offer variety of multimedia contents and activities, textbooks, and networked systems. It is a comprehensive package for instruction and loaming tailored to fit specific curriculum. Thus, ILS is well-integrated and well-suited to individual learners' interest or capabilities. The school teachers who would have to use ICT in their courses required by the 7th National Curriculum Guidelines, ILS could be an innovative tool to be effective not only in teaching but also in using ICT. However, effective use and development of ILS, in Korea, should be supported by the educational decision makers and policies to fit Korean school curriculum. Thus, in this paper, we have studies to look at examplary ILS and a couple of cases to consider ILS for possible adoption in Korea.
