  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of mental practice on increasing balance and fall index & fall efficacy scale of persons with post stroke. Method : As a single subject research design with multiple baseline across individuals, the patients were four stroke patients, employed in this study. The employed program included receiving mental practice, and measuring balance score changes using FRT for 4 weeks, including baseline and intervention periods. The subject's fall danger were measured by Fall Index Test(Tetrax) and Fall Efficacy Scale for balance ability were analyzed. The analyses were performed using visually and Two Standard Deviation Band Method. Result : Using FRT, the participants improved their standing balance. During the intervention periods, Their improvement of balance skills results in decreasing Fall Index increasing Fall Efficacy. Conclusion : As a result of this study, mental practice can be an effective method to improve the balance of stroke patien.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of modified wall squat exercise after sacro-iliac joint mobilization on balance in normal adults. The total number of subjects was 34, and 17 were randomly placed in the experimental group(EG) and 15 in the control group (CG). The subjects in the EG have conducted the 3 sets of modified wall squat exercise after sacro-iliac joint mobilization per day, 3 times a week for 6 weeks and CG did not conducted the intervention. Comparing the EG's balance pre-test and post-test this study, there was a statistical significance in WDI, CD, AC and AD. In this study, it was confirmed that modified wall squat exercise after sacro-iliac joint mobilization affects balance in normal adults.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyse the effects of yoga exercise on balance ability and gait velocity in stroke patients. Subjects were categorized in to a control group and yoga program group with 9 for each group. Yoga program was conducted for 60minute for 8weeks, three times a week. For the purposes, the study measured Stability Index(SI, postural sway) and Weight Distribution Index(WDI) using Tetrax, Functional Reach Test(FRT), Dynamic Gait index(DGI) and 10 meter walking test. At pre- and post-exercise after appling the yoga exercise, the data was analyzed. Yoga exercise group's SI and WDI were decreased, FRT and DGI were increased in comparison with control group. But 10 meter walking test was no significance. It suggests that the yoga exercise could promote recovery from balance disorder after stroke.

  • The study was performed to determine the impact of the gastrocnemius taping with balance training on spasticity and balance ability of the ankle joint. A total of 25 stroke subjects were divided into two groups: a taping with balance training (n=14), a sham taping with balance training (n=11). Spasticity assesment was scored by modified ashworth scale. Balance ability assesment was performed by functional reach test (FRT), the timed up & go test (TUG). The stability index (SI), the left-right weight distribution (left-right WD), the toe-heel weight distribution (toe-heel WD) were analyzed in the eyes open conditions(EO) and eyes closed conditions(EC) conditions using by the Tetrax interactive balance system. The experimental group showed a significant improvement in SI, left-right WD and toe-heel WD in the EO and EC, MAS, FRT, TUG. In comparison between the groups, a significant improvement was detected in FRT, TUG, SI and left-right WD in the EO, and left-right WD and toe-heel WD in the EC. It was found out that a short period of balance training with taping is effective on spasticity and balance ability in stroke patients. Therefore, any stroke patient without skin damage is encouraged to use the gastrocnemius taping for balance rehabilitation.

  • This study examined the effects of combined exercise training for preventing falls on the physical performance, falling index, and balance in elderly women. All subjects (N = 32) were recruited and divided randomly to either a combined exercise group (n= 16, EX) or non-exercise control group (n = 16, CON). During 12 weeks of training, the subjects in the EX performed the combined exercise programs (three times/week, 60min/session), and the subjects in the CON maintained their ordinary lives. At the PRE, MID, POST tests, All subjects completed senior fitness tests(dynamic balance, two minutes walking, sit and stand for 30 seconds), tests for falling risk with Tetrax, and tests for posture balance with the spine balance 3D. After the baseline tests, two-way repeated-measures ANOVA with contrast testing was used with SPSS 21.0. Alpha was set to 0.05. In the results, the dynamin balance (p=.001), two minutes walking (p=.001), sit and stand for 30 seconds (p=.001), falling risk (p=.002), and posture balance (p=.034) in the EX were significantly different, but not in the CON. Thus, elderly females who performed combined exercise training for 12 weeks can increase their physical fitness & posture stability and reduce their falling risk.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the effect of induced ametropia on static posture for body balance. Methods: Twenty subjects (10 males, 10 females) of average age $23.4{pm}2.70$ years were participated and ametropia(binocular myopia; BM, simple myopic anisometropia; SMA, binocular hyperopia; BH, and simple hyperopic anisometropia; SHA) were induced with ${pm}0.50D$, ${\pm}1.00D$, ${\pm}1.50D$, ${\pm}2.00D$, ${\pm}3.00D$, ${\pm}4.00D$, ${\pm}5.00D$, respectively. General stability (ST), weight distribution index (WDI), and fall risk index (FI) were measured using TETRAX the biofeedback systems. Each index of the body balance was evaluated for 32 seconds in each ametropic condition and those value was compared with the value in fully corrected condition. Results: The ST showed significant increase from +0.50 D under condition of BM, from +1.00 D under condition of SMA, from -1.00 D under condition of BH, and from -1.50 D under condition of SHA compared with under condition of fully corrected condition, respectively. The FI showed significant increases from +4.00 D under condition of BM, from -1.00 D under condition of BH, and from -1.50 D under condition of SHA. The WDI show no change in all ametropia condition. Conclusions: Whatever ametropia is, uncorrected refractive error could reduce the general stability of body balance and increase the falling risk.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the change of balance ability on aging by measuring balance ability of elderly females whose age is over 65. The subjects are ten elderly women (the mean age: 71.9) able to walk without assistants, the assistant equipments and drug dependence and ten young healthy women (the mean age: 23.2). We measured stability index (ST), Fourier index (F), weight distribution (WD), weight distribution index (WDI), synchronization index (SI) and fall index (FI) by using Tetrax (Tetra-ataxiometric Posturography). In result, STs and Fs at the low frequency region (F1) represented the significant difference between two groups at all postures with PO (pillow with eye open) exception (p<.01). Fs at the other frequency regions (F2~F8) represented the significant difference between two groups (p<.05). WDI of the elderly women represented the higher values than the young women at all postures but there are the significant difference at PO and PC (pillow with eye closed) only. These results may be due to age-related ability decline of somatesthesia, vestibular organ, central nervous system.

  • This study was conducted on college students with low back pain to find out how a backrest exercise program affects the pain and balance of students. Thirty-two students at K University in Gwangju City were randomly classified with backrests and without backrests group respectively. Each group conducted the program for lasted three times a week for a total of 30 minutes for four weeks. Visual Analog Scale (VAS) was measured for pain assessment before and after arbitration, and the Korean Oswestry Disability Index (KODI) was measured for functional disability assessment. TETRAX is used to measure the weight distribution index and posture stability. According to the results of the experiment, the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and the Korean Oswestry Disability Index (KODI) and weight distribution index showed significant differences over time, but the posture stability was no significant difference. The results of this study show that the lower limb exercise program is effective in back pain, dysfunction and weight distribution index, and it is believed that the pain reduction is significant when performed by distal movement in the area of back pain, It can be applied effectively to reduce low back pain in college students who spend a lot of time sitting down.
