  • Traction motors driven by high speed switching inverters is demanded higher operating temperature, severe duty cycles, higher starting current, frequent voltage transients and finally severe environmental exposure. For applications to inverter duty, traction motors needs a special insulation system, which has characteristics of increased bond strength, lower operating temperature and higher turn-to-turn insulation. In this paper, design considerations and manufacturing procedure of 200 Class insulation system with polyimde(Kapton) main insulation and silicone resin VPI process on the traction motor for EMU will be reviewed. And performance test and long life evaluation test which prove stability and long life evaluation test which prove stability and reliability of insulation system for traction motor will be introduced.

  • This paper describes design, implementation and functional test of on-board flight analog video system. Video system is the part of the telemetry system as a means of providing flight vehicle's image data. Adopting analog video transmission technique, we could design and test the system in a short time and implement the prototype model with simpler circuits. As results of the functional test, we have made the verification and validation of two cameras' switching in time, and frequency modulation and demodulation of NTSC color signals successfully.

  • This report describes the procedure of detailed design and structural test for the composite flexure which is a part of the hingeless hub system. First, stacking sequence design for composite flexure was done, and structural analysis by using NASTRAN was made to verify structural stability and safety. Using FPS installed at KIMM, composite flexure was laid up and cured using a autoclave. Before rotor ground test, the basic structural tests such as a bench test, tensile strength test and shear strength test, for flexure, were accomplished. Through replacing existing metal hub part with new fabricated composite flexure, improvement of aeroelastic stability and weight reduction were achieved. This result will be applied to composite rotor system design fur helicopter.

  • This paper describes insulation design and its reliability evaluation of ${\pm}80kV$ HVDC XLPE cable. Recently, the construction of HVDC transmission system, which is combined overhead line with underground cable, has been completed. This system is installed with existing 154 kV AC transmission line on the same tower. In this paper, the lightning transient analysis is firstly reviewed for selection of basic impulse insulation level and nominal insulation thickness. Then the electrical performance tests including load cycle test and superimposed impulse test based on CIGRE TB 496 are performed to evaluate the reliability of newly designed HVDC cable. There is no breakdown for ${\pm}80kV$ HVDC XLPE cable during electrical performance test. Finally, this system is installed in Jeju island based on successful electrical performance test (Type test). After installation tests are also successfully completed.

  • In the proto design stage of a new car, the performances of an occupant protection system can be evaluated by CAE even though the real test should be carried out. The number of the real test is reduced by the exact predictions followed by the appropriate design recommendation. However, the existing researches using CAE in predicting the performances do not consider the uncertainties of parameters. That often leads to inconsistency between test and CAE. In this research, the robust design of a protection system such as airbag and load limiter is suggested considering the frontal crash. The parameter design scheme of the Taguchi method is introduced to obtain the robust design of arbitrary airbag and load limiter. It is performed based on the frontal crash test condition of US-NCAP with an arbitrary passenger car. The variances of the performances such as HIC, chest acceleration and probability of combined injury are calculated by the outer array and the Taylor series expansion. Through the analysis of the Taguchi method, the robust optimum is determined.

  • In this study, a test-bench for developing and verifying a 1- or 2-axis nanopositioner was manufactured. Using this test-bench, adesigned and manufactured flexure stage based on an analysis can configure nanopositioning systems. A breadboard and fixture were fabricated to be equipped with various types of mechanisms and sizes of stages. The test-bench has linear encoders for calibrating sensors and verifying the orthogonality and parasitic motion of 2-axis nested-type nanopositioners. The controller was developed using LabVIEW and a TI microcontroller. A case study that exemplified the test bench for developing a nanopositioner by senior undergraduate students is shown.

  • Export basic trainer was designed to add armed configuration required by customer. Design configuration of main wing was changed to satisfy changed internal load caused by armed configuration. It was verified that design changed main wing airframe of export basic trainer satisfy the requirement through the structural detail analysis, structural ground test and flight test. This paper presents the durability test procensure and test result for the main wing of export basic trainer.

  • As the system-on-chip (SoC) design becomes more complex, the test costs are increasing. One of the main obstacles of a test cost reduction is the limited number of test channels of the ATE while the number of pins in the design increases. To overcome this problem, a new test architecture using a channel sharing compliant with IEEE Standard 1149.1 and 1500 is proposed. It can significantly reduce the pin count for testing a SoC design. The test input data is transmitted using a test access mechanism composed of only input pins. A single test data output pin is used to measure the sink values. The experimental results show that the proposed architecture not only increases the number of sites to be tested simultaneously, but also reduces the test time. In addition, the yield loss owing to the proven contact problems can be reduced. Using the new architecture, it is possible to achieve a large test time and cost reduction for complex SoC designs with negligible design and test overheads.

  • Real time verification is necessary, since there are several features that cannot be verified through design simulation in the design of multiband soundbar system. And then this paper describes an implementation of an FPGA-based real-time verification system for a soundbar SoC with an embedded processor. It is verified a real-time performance test and a listening test which are several features in the design stage that cannot be verified through a design simulation. The measurement of quantitative specifications such as SNR, THD+N, frequency response, etc. as well as the listening test were performed through the implemented FPGA system, and it was verified that test results satisfied the target specifications.

  • A liquid rocket engine goes through many tests to prove its performance before liftoff. It means the tests for setting ignition and start-up conditions or a test on design condition, which verifies the design performance. However, the development process requires verification of performance under off-design conditions through tests involving different operating conditions, which affects the duration of engine development. The off-design performance test is performed by altering the conditions of the propellant supplied to the engine in conjunction with the engine performance test that varies the opening of the control valves in the engine. This paper is based on the results of the engine tests performed at the KSLV-II engine test facilities in the Naro Space Center and describes the operations of the test facility for off-design condition test that changes the inlet conditions of the turbo-pump due to changes in the pressure and temperature of the propellant supplied to the test engines.
