  • The paper proposes a technique for reconstructing the true hardening curve of isotropic materials from ring tensile tests. Neutron irradiated 42XNM alloy tensile properties were investigated. The calculation of the true hardening curve for tensile and compression tests of standard cylindrical samples was performed at the first step. After that, the FEM-model was developed and validated using the ring tension and compression tests (with the hardening curve defined in step 1). Finally, the true hardening curve was calculated by selecting the FEM-model parameters and its validation by ring sample tests in different states using an iterative method. For these samples, experimental and calculated gauge length values were obtained, and the corresponding material's constants were estimated.

  • This study simulated a control rod assembly (CRA), which is a part of reactor shutdown systems, in immersed and fluid flow conditions. The CRA was inserted into the reactor core within a predetermined time limit under normal and abnormal operating conditions, and the CRA (which consists of complex geometric shapes) drop behavior is numerically modeled for simulation. A full-scale prototype CRA drop test is established under room temperature and water-fluid conditions for verification and validation. This paper describes the details of the numerical modeling and analysis results of the several conditions. Results from the developed numerical simulation code are compared with the test results to verify the numerical model and developed computer code. The developed code is in very good agreement with the test results and this numerical analysis model and method may replace the experimental and CFD method to predict the drop behavior of CRA.

  • In recent years, ESS (Energy Storage System) has been widely used in various parts of a power system. Especially, due to its fast response time and high ramp rate, ESS is known to play an important role in regulating grid frequency and providing rotational inertia. As the number of installed and commercially operating ESSs increases, the reliability becomes an important issue. This paper introduces control schemes and presents its test method for grid-connected ESS for primary frequency regulation. The test method allows to verify the control operation in the individual operation mode and state. A validation of the method through actual ESS test in a electrical substation is presented in the case study section.

  • This paper aims to numerically estimate the dynamic ice load on a conical structure. The Discrete Element Method (DEM) is employed to model the level ice as the assembly of numerous spherical particles. To mimic the realistic fracture mechanism of ice, the parallel bonding method is introduced. Cases with four different ice drifting velocities are considered in time domain. For validation, the statistics of time-varying ice forces and their frequencies obtained by numerical simulations are extensively compared against the physical model-test results. Ice properties are directly adopted from the targeted experimental test set up. The additional parameters for DEM simulations are systematically determined by a numerical three-point bending test. The findings reveal that the numerical simulation estimates the dynamic ice force in a reasonably acceptable range and its results agree well with experimental data.

  • A modified Bagdonavičius-Nikulin chi-square goodness-of-fit is defined and studied. The lymphoma data is analyzed using the modified goodness-of-fit test statistic. Different non-Bayesian estimation methods under complete samples schemes are considered, discussed and compared such as the maximum likelihood least square estimation method, the Cramer-von Mises estimation method, the weighted least square estimation method, the left tail-Anderson Darling estimation method and the right tail Anderson Darling estimation method. Numerical simulation studies are performed for comparing these estimation methods. The potentiality of the new model is illustrated using three real data sets and compared with many other well-known generalizations.

  • The certificate status validation mechanism is a critical component of a public key infrastructure based on certificate system. The most generally mechanisms used these days are the use of the certificate revocation list and the real-time certificate status protocol. But the certificate revocation list can not give the real-time certificate status because the certificate is being delivered periodically, and the real-time certificate status protocol method will generate a concentrated load to the server because the protocol in the central server will be accessed whenever a certification is necessary. It will also take a long time to validate the certificate because each trade has to send mass information through the network. This paper will present that real-time validation is guaranteed as the real-time certificate status protocol method and the traffic congestion in the network Is reduced in a way that the certification would be requested using the user information hash value and would be validated using the user information kept in the certification authorities and the service providers. Based on the this study, we suggest a real-time certificate status validation mechanism which can reduce the certificate status validation time using the signed user information hash value. And we confirm speed of certificate status verification faster than existing CRL(Certificate Revocation List) and OCSP(Online Certificate Status Protocol) method by test.

  • With recent technological advances in the shipbuilding industry, vessels have been improved in size and performance. As a result, an accident such as grounding, caused by a single ship-to-ship collision, could lead to a large-scale maritime disaster. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the international community has been consistently updating the standards for Electronic Navigational Chart(ENC) to improve the maritime safety. S-57, the existing ENC standard governed by the International Hydrographic Organization(IHO), includes standards for generating conventional binary-type ENC data sets. The S-57 standard, however, has not been updated since the release of Version 3.1 in December 2000. Since then, the standard has failed to reflect technological development regarding maritime spacial information, which has been consistently improving. In an effort to address this concern, the IHO designated S-100, i.e., the next-generation ENC production standard. S-100 differs from S-57 in data exchange type. Contrary to the conventional ENC standards, which use binary-type data, S-10X, based on the next-generation ENC standards, uses ENC data composed of Feature Catalogue, Portrayal Catalogue, and GML. Considering this fact, it is necessary to update S-58, the ENC validation check standard, or designate a new standard for ENC validation checks. This study is developed own software to implement validation checks for new types of data, and identified improvement points based on the test results.

  • A Experimental study on frequency characteristics of the microphone array covered with Kevlar in closed test section wind tunnel. Microphones that are flush mounted in a closed test section wall of wind tunnel are subject to very high flow noise resulting from the turbulence in the wall boundary layer. At this time the microphones measure the strong hydrodynamic fluctuations generated by the flow. The phenomena are referred to a microphone self-noise and a method for reducing this has studied. In this paper the array that covered with acoustically transparent Kevlar sheet was designed and made to reduce the flow-induced self-noise. For the validation frequency characteristics of the Kevlar, the microphone array was installed on the wall and test was performed for white noise and sine wave of several frequencies using loudspeaker. In addition, the paper compared the signals as a tension of Kevlar. The results were presented that tend to decrease the sound pressure level at high frequency above 3500Hz according to existence of Kevlar.

  • Accurate predictions and simulations of the behavior of space structures based on analytical models become more important. In order to perform analysis to support the design of Ku-band transponder panel for the Communications and Broadcasting Satellite(CBS), mathematical models of the panel were generated in the form of finite element models. Test verification of these models is required before the transponder panel can be certified for launch environments. A modal identification was performed to obtain modal parameters which can be compared with the test results using correlation techniques. This paper approaches the sensor placement from the standpoint of the structural dynamicist who uses the modal parameter obtained during launch environmental test. The models were validated by performing a test-analysis correlation and updating analysis. It was proved that the Ku-band transponder panel satisfies the environmental test requirements.

  • Acute toxicity test with Daphnia magna has a variety of factors such as incubation condition of test species, food quality and proficiency of laboratory workers. Therefore, proper proficiency testing samples were required for evaluating the competence of laboratory workers. This study aims to propose some appropriate proficiency testing samples for laboratory workers of acute toxicity test with Daphnia magna. Proposed four kinds of standard samples (Sample A, B, C, and D) for proficiency testing were selected from reference materials which were recommended from Canada and USA WET(Whole Effluent Toxicity) authorities. Proposed standard samples were tested by trial application of proficiency testing, homogeneity and stability checks using repeatability test. Sample A, C and D were estimated ad the suitable candidates for proficiency test standard samples except for Sample B. In addition, Sample A was proved to be the most suitable sample.
