  • Lately, Building Information Modeling (BIM) emerges as the most promising technology, now is expected to bring a great deal of improvement of productivity in every aspect of the construction industry. One of the BIM based scheduling is to use BIM model as a base for applying to schedule analysis and simulation tools. This type of tools may incorporate a various types of information such as the building model, construction method information, resource information, productivity information, rules and constraints to optimize activity sequencing. This paper proposes a framework of BIM based simulating system which can be used to optimize construction processes, especially for the floor construction cycle. For the purpose, all of the necessary components of the system will be defined and represented, and next an algorithm will be introduced to demonstrate the principle of simulating operation. The benefits of this technique are basically two : to test and optimize construction methods in respect of the construction duration and to reduce the floor construction cycle.

  • Time synchronization is important role in a network, especially in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) which is required for time-critical applications such as surveillance, tracking, data fusion and scheduling. Time synchronization in WSN should meet the other different requirements than the one in other networks because WSN has critical resource constraints, especially power consumption. This paper presents a new time synchronization scheme for WSN, which is energy efficient by reducing communication overhead. Simulation test shows this new scheme has better energy efficiency and performance of accuracy than existing schemes proposed previously.

  • This paper deals with a coal supply planning problem for power plants. We propose a mathematical optimization model to make decisions for coal pile sections, movement of reclaimers, and operation time of conveyor belts. The objective of the proposed model is to minimize the total operation time of conveyor belts and total movement time of reclaimers. The algorithm firstly selects a pile section by considering both the location of reclaimers and the stock amount on that pile section. And then the shortest path from the selected pile section has to be put into the operation schedule and check whether the total operation time is satisfied. Then finally the new schedule is updated. To this end, we have tested the proposed algorithm comparing with the general standard optimization package for the simplified problem SCSPP. From the numerous test runs for comparing with the existing coal supply scheduling methods, We see that the proposed model may improve the coal supply operation by reducing significant coal supply costs.

  • Patient satisfaction is an important factor in evaluating the quality of care. Patient satisfaction may be used to evaluate provider services and facilities, and used to predict the patient returns to a facility. The patients decision whether the patient returns to a facility or whether the patient recommends the facility to other people may be affected by a variety of factors of patient satisfaction. This study is to develop and test of a translated and modified Goldstein's instrument that measures patient satisfaction among physical therapists patients and clients. A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted in Seoul, Chung-Joo and Bu-Cheon cities. Survey data was obtained from 743 patients who visited the physical therapy practice at university hospitals, general hospitals and clinics. The instrument developed by Goldstein was used and translated into Korean. Several items were added to the instrument. Patient's opinions of service in each domain measured using 5-point Likert-type scales that ranged from strongly disagree to strongly agree. Principal components analysis with varimax rotation was used to indicate which questions examined similar components of patient satisfaction. Component analysis indicated eight scales (kindness, scheduling, recommendation, convenience of parking, privacy, and waiting time). Different types of validity were established well. The coefficient of reliability (Cronbach alpha =.97) obtained for the instrument was clearly within a desired range.

  • GNSS has been evolving dramatically in recent years. There are currently 6 GNSS (4 GNSS, AND 2 RNSS) constellations, which are GPS (USA), GLONASS (Russia), BeiDou (China), Galileo (EU), QZSS (Japan), and IRNSS (India). The Number of navigation satellites is expected to be over 150 by 2020. As the number of both constellations and satellites used for the improvement of positioning performance, high accuracy, and robustness of precise positioning is more promising. However, a large amount of the correction messages is required to support the augmentation system for the available satellites of all the constellations. Since bandwidth for the correction messages is generally limited, sending or scheduling the correction messages might be a critical issue in the near future. In this study, we analyze the relationship between the size of the bandwidth and Real-Time Kinematics (RTK) performance. Multiple Signal Messages (MSM), the only Radio Technical Commission for Maritimes (RTCM) message that supports multi-constellation GNSS, has been used for this assessment. Instead of the conventional method that broadcasts all the messages at the same time, we assign the MSM broadcasting interval for each constellation in 5 seconds. An open sky static and dynamic test for this study was conducted on the roof of Sejong University. Our results show that the RTK fixed position accuracy is not affected by the 5-second interval corrections, but the ambiguity fixing rate is degraded for poor DOP cases when RTK correction are transmitted intermittently.

  • Team orienteering, an extension of single-competitor orienteering, is the problem of determining multiple paths from a starting node to a finishing node for a given allowed time or distance limit fixed for each of the paths with the objective of maximizing the total collected score. Each path is through a subset of nodes, each of which has an associated score. The team orienteering problem has many applications such as home fuel delivery, college football players recruiting, service technicians scheduling, military operations, etc. Unlike existing optimal and heuristic algorithms often leading to heavy computation, this paper suggests two types of priority rule based heuristics-serial and parallel ones-that are especially suitable for practically large-sized problems. In the proposed heuristics, all nodes are listed in an order using a priority rule and then the paths are constructed according to this order. To show the performances of the heuristics, computational experiments were done on the small-to-medium sized benchmark instances and randomly generated large sized test instances, and the results show that some of the heuristics give reasonable quality solutions within very short computation time.

  • Multi-hop networks are a low-setup-cost solution for enlarging an area of network coverage through multi-hop routing. Carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) is frequently used in multi-hop networks. Multi-hop networks face multiple problems, such as a rise in contention for the medium, and packet loss under heavy-load, saturated conditions, which consumes more bandwidth due to re-transmissions. The number of re-transmissions carried out in a multi-hop network plays a major role in the achievable quality of service (QoS). This paper presents a statistical, analytical model for the end-to-end delay of contention-based medium access control (MAC) strategies. These strategies schedule a packet before performing the back-off contention for both differentiated heterogeneous data and homogeneous data under saturation conditions. The analytical model is an application of Markov chain theory and queuing theory. The M/M/1 model is used to derive access queue waiting times, and an absorbing Markov chain is used to determine the expected number of re-transmissions in a multi-hop scenario. This is then used to calculate the expected end-to-end delay. The prediction by the proposed model is compared to the simulation results, and shows close correlation for the different test cases with different arrival rates.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a scale for evaluation of early childhood programs in Korea. The procedures included content validation and a pilot test. A total of 192 items in 10 major areas was developed based on the review of literature and discussions with professionals in early childhood education. The 10 areas include: scheduling, curriculum, interation, physical environment, materials, nutrition, health and safety, administration, staff qualifications, relationships with parents, and evaluation. The pilot scale was administered to 428 classroom teachers and directors, and 47 college professors in early childhood education. The items were rated on a 3-point scale in terms of importance as evaluation criteria. The methods for data analysis included item means and standard deviations for content validation, Cronbach ${\alpha}$ for reliability, and factor analysis for construct validity. Most items in 10 areas were rated as moderate to highly important (average 2.3), especially items in curriculum and staff qualifications. Two factors emerged from the data: institutional management, and curricular planning and implementation. The Cronbach ${\alpha}$ levels were .70 or higher in most areas, but the range covers from .48 to .91. Based on the pilot data, 143 items were selected for the second year study.
