  • The rapid response of disaster accidents can be archived through the organical involvement of various disaster and safety control agencies. To define the terminology of disaster safety is essential for communication between disaster safety agencies and well as announcement for the public. Also, to efficiently construct a word dictionary of disaster safety terminology, it's necessary to define the priority of the terms. In order to establish direction of word dictionary construction, this paper compares the usage of disaster safety terminology by media: word dictionary, new media, and social media, respectively. Based on the terminology resources collected from each media, we visualized the distribution of terminology according to frequency weights and analyzed co-occurrence patterns. We also classified the types of terminology into four categories and proposed the priority in the construction of disaster safety word dictionary.

Research was conducted on the needs of doctors, nurses, health and medical information managers, and radiology departments, which are the main stakeholders of electronic medical records. The overall requirements for electronic medical records were derived from the results, and the requirements for each stage of use of electronic medical records were analyzed. Based on the results of the study, the study proposes plans to expand the use of the categorical structure for the representation of the 3D human body position system, and also aims to establish a standard system for health and medical terminology in Korea and contribute to the development of health and medical information standards through international standardization.

  • Objectives : Nomenclature for medical terminology is the most important point in traditional medical standardization. For example, standard nomenclature for acupuncture points, herbal medicines and prescriptions have been treated. However, studies on standard nomenclature for traditional medical books are rare. Methods : Following up all articles in Journal of Korean Medical Classics[JKMC], which have romanized name for medical books and analyzing problems of those. Results : There were so several methods to write in romanized character even to unique and replaceable name. Methods : We extract romanized prescription name from Vol. 11, No. 1 to latest Issue Vol. 21, No. 1, Herbal Formula Science. Results : The Korean Academy of Oriental Medicine Prescription has guideline for romanized prescription nomenclature. However, only 6 out of 147 romanized prescription name are confirmed with guideline. In addition, 58 out of 142 names are italicized without guideline. Also there are several ways of marking for prescription names. Conclusions : For making knowledge information and easy searching for terms, we need normative regulations for romanized prescription nomenclature by the Society of Korean Medicine level.

  • Globalization describes a process by which regional cultures have become integrated through a global network of communication. In order to communicate among different cultural groups, standardization of terminology is one of the most important steps among its processes. In the field of oriental medicine, there have been continuous efforts to communicate through various methods. Translation of oriental medical classics is one of the significant approaches in terms of transmitting medical theories and clinical experiences of thousands of years to the people of different cultural backgrounds. However, previous translation studies have had difficulties in delivering its underlying principles and assumptions due to lack of standardization of terminology. "WHO International Standard Terminologies on Traditional Medicine in the Western Pacific Region(WHO-IST)" is the outcome of developing standard terminologies on oriental medicine based on mutual agreement of researchers of Korea, China and Japan. As a movement to find more efficient methodology for communication between heterogeneous communities, this study aims to translate parts of "Classic of difficult issues(難經)" into English adopting "WHO-IST" hoping to set a model of translation study.

  • Although there have been many endeavors aimed at the standardization and globalization of Korean medicine over a long period of time, the access to information on Oriental medical classics has been relatively poor due to the lack of appropriate translation methodology and standard terminology. In order to overcome existing barriers, continuous effort towards precise translation adopting a standard terminology should be maintained. As a part of this procedure, we planned to publish a part of "Classic of difficult issues(難經)" in three sections, and the first two studies have already been published. Based on the methodology and approaches of previous studies, this third study aims to translate parts of "Classic of difficult issues(難經)" into English, beginning with "The Sixteenth Question", and adopting "WHO-IST" terminology. The outcomes of this study are presented as follows: First, based on the result of existing translation studies and the outcome of "WHO-IST", English translation of "Classic of difficult issues(難經)" from "the Sixteenth Question" to "The Twenty-second Question" is offered, hoping to set a model of translation study which can be communicated universally. Second, in order to pave the way for future success in establishing translation studies, it is natural to verify the effectiveness and practicality of standard terminologies including the outcome of "WHO-IST". Continuous translation studies will be required in order to obtain constant feedback and adopt more suitable guidelines during the standardization process. Taking this into consideration, further translation studies of Oriental medical classics including "Classic of difficult issues(難經)" should be continued.

  • Nonproprietary name may be used without restriction by the public at large and can be called common name, generic name. Nomenclature agencies exist in US, Great Britain, Japan and so on. The agencies maintain liaison with onε another in an effort to secure the wide adoption of thε most appropriate and universally acceptable designation for each drug. To prevent the confusion which arises when several nonproprietary names are used for a single drug, either in the same country or in several different countries, the WHO has assumed the responsibility of coordination existing nomenclature at the international level. In this study, the nomenclature for new drugs and the terminology to harmonize specifications for revision of Korean Pharmacopoeia (KP) were established.
