Recently, various reinforced concrete joints have been used in reinforced concrete structures. Therefore, it is important to grasp the tensile properties of the spliced rebar. In this study, uniaxial tensile tests were conducted on Grade 60 D22(#7), D29(#9), and two kinds of couplers manufactured according to ASTM A615 standard for evaluating ductility of coupler joints. The strain was measured using an image processing method more accurate and capable of measuring at various points freely. As the result of uniaxial tensile test, it was possible to calculate the stress-strain relationship and the longitudinal strain distribution according to the stress stages and it was founded that the average strain becomes lower as more occupying the coupler joint portions in the same gauge length. In addition, the empirical equations are proposed to account for the effect of the length of the coupler on the ultimate strain and the rupture strain.

Self-piercing riveting(SPR) is a mechanical fastening technique which is put pressure on the rivet for joining the sheets. Unlike a spot welding, SPR joining does not make the harmful gas and $CO_2$ and needs less energy consumption. In this study, static and fatigue tests were conducted using tensile-shear specimens with Al-5052 plates for evaluation of fatigue strength of the SPR joints. During SPR joining process for the specimen, using the current sheet thickness and a rivet, the optimal applied punching force was found to be 21 kN. And, the maximum static strength of the specimen produced at the optimal punching force was 3430 N. During the fatigue tests for the specimens, interface failure mode occurred on the top substrate close to the rivet head in the most high-loading range region, but on the bottom substrate close to the rivet tail in the low -loading range region. There was a relationship between applied load amplitude $P_{amp}$ and lifetime of cycle N for the tensile-shear, $P_{amp}=3395.5{\times}N^{-0.078}$. Using the stress-strain curve of the Al-5052 from tensile test, the simulations for fatigue specimens have been carried out using the implicit finite element code ABAQUS. The relation between von-Mises equivalent stress amplitude and number of cycles was found to be ${\sigma}_{eq}=514.7{\times}N^{-0.033}$.

When fiber reinforced concrete is manufactured, it is useful to utilize lathe scrap as an aiternative material of steel fiber, because it is not only economical as an by-product of steel manufactures, but also has a very similar composition to that of steel fiber. The purpose of this experimental research is to evaluate the compressive strength and tensile behavior and then propose a material model of lathe scrap reinforced mortar. For this purpose, the lathe scrap reinforced mortars were ma de a ccording to their tota l volume fra ction of 1.5 % for wa ter-binder ra tio of 30 % a nd 40 %, respectively, a nd then the mechanical properties such as compressive strength, direct tensile strength, and stress-strain curve of those were evaluated. Also, based on the experimental results of lathe scrap reinforced mortar the material model for tensile behavior was suggested. It was revealed that the experimental results and the proposed material model corresponded relatively well.

This study investigated the open hole tensile (OHT) properties of carbon fiber/epoxy composites and compared them to bolt joint tensile (BJT) properties. The net nominal modulus and strength (1376 MPa) were found to be higher than the gross nominal strength (1041 MPa), likely due to increasing hole size. The OHT and BJT specimens exhibited similar stiffness, as expected without bolt rotation causing secondary bending. OHT specimens experienced a sharp drop in stress indicating unstable crack propagation, delamination, and catastrophic failure. BJT specimens failed through shear out on the bolt side and bearing failure on the nut side, involving fiber kinking, matrix splitting, and delamination, resulting in lower strength compared to OHT specimens. The strength retention of carbon fiber/epoxy composites with open holes was 66%. Delamination initiation at the hole's edge caused a reduction in the stress concentration factor. Filling the hole with a bolt suppressed this relieving mechanism, leading to lower strength in BJT specimens compared to OHT specimens. Bolt joint efficiency was calculated as 15%. The reduction in strength in bolted joints was attributed to fiber-matrix splitting and delamination, aligning with Hart Smith's bolted joint efficiency diagram. These findings contribute to materials selection and structural reliability estimation for carbon fiber/epoxy composites. They highlight the behavior of open hole and bolt joint configurations under tensile loading, providing valuable insights for engineering applications.

This paper attempt to explore the shape of stress wave propagation of 3-dimensional stress field which in made in the process of the time increment. A finite element program about 3-dimensional stress wave propagation is developed for investigating the changing shape of the stress by the impact load. The finite element program, which is the solution for the 3-dimensional stress wave analysis, based on Galerkin and Newmark-${\beta}$ method at time increment step. The tensile stress and compressive stress become larger with the order of the middle , the upper and the opposite layers when the impact load is applied. In a while the shear stress become larger according to the order of the upper, the middle and the opposite layers when impact load applied.
This paper is a review of biaxial tensile test equipments and specimens. The stresses acting on a component in service are multiaxial in nature. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the mechanical properties of sheet materials not only under uniaxial but also under these multiaxial stress states. Biaxial testing of metal in industry becomes an important investigation tool for the evaluation of mechanical properties of sheet metals. In this paper, several types of biaxial tensile tests were reviewed, and their advantages and limitations were discussed.
Microstructure and tensile property in the weld heat-affected zone (HAZ) of austenitic Fe-Mn-Al-C low density steels were investigated through transmission electron microscopy analysis and tensile tests. The HAZ samples were prepared using Gleeble simulation with high heat input welding condition of 300 kJ/cm, and the HAZ peak temperature of $1200^{\circ}C$ was determined from differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) test. The strain- stress responses of base steels showed that the addition of V improved the tensile and yield strength by grain refinement and precipitation strengthening. Tensile strength and elongation decreased in the weld HAZ as compared to the base steel, due to grain growth, while V-added steel had a higher HAZ strength as compared than V-free steel.

Tensile energy absorption in paper has long been measured as the area under the load-elongation curve. Little effort has been made to define where and how that energy is used within the paper itself. Characterization of tensile energy absorption in paper is discussed. Multiple small elements within newsprint and kraft sack have been defined and the energy absorbed in those elements are discussed. The tensile profiles of the weak paper, newsprint, and the tough paper, kraft sack, are presented as separate strain profiles, stress profiles, and strain energy density profiles. This allows a complete analysis of the energy absorption of both papers for comparison or contrast.
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted an increasing attention due to their superior mechanical properties and potential application in industries. The strength of CNT has been predicted or calculated through several simulation techniques but actual experiments on stress-strain behavior are rare due to its dimensional limit, nanoscale positioning/manipulation, and instrumental resolution. We have attempted to observe straining responses of a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) with different growth methods by performing an in-situ tensile testing in a scanning electron microscope. Linear deformation and fracture behaviors of MWNT were successfully observed and its force-displacement curve was also measured from the bending stiffness and displacement of the force sensor and manipulator. We also obtained different tensile load of carbon nanotube with different growth methods.

It is visualized that dislocations move straightly in polycrystalline structure and the trans-grain dislocation moving occur from yield point to ultimate tensile stress. Some fracturemodes in uniaxial tensile test are ilustrated in order to explain that after the ultimate point the grains deforms by twins and the rotations of grains make cracks at the grain-boundaries by the incompatibility . The luders banks. which propagates along the axis of the specimen, are twin bands whcih are formed by rearrangement of the atoms within the structure of three-dimensional crystallizing $\pi$-bondings. The fatigue limit can be found through the atom's rolling back motion during elastic deformation inthe uniaxial tensile test by the change of the gradient.
