This paper aims to investigate the effect of B and Si upon the mechanical properties, microstructure and corrosion resistance of Co-Cr base alloy. Ten groups of alloy ingot ingot with various contents of B and Si were remelted by high frequency electrical induction furnace and cast into tensile specimen of ADA Specification No. 14 Tensile and hardness test were carried out by Amsler and Rockwell hardness tester(R-30N), respectively. The microstructures of specimen were observed by SEM. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. As B content is increased, tensile strength, yield strength and Rockwell hardness number(R-30N) are also increased significantly, while the elongation is decreased significantly. 2. As Si contect os increased, no significant chang in tensile strength is noticed, yield strength is slightly decreased, but Rockwell hardness number(R-30N) is moderately in creased, Elongation marks maxium value with 1% Si content while with more than 1% Si it is decreased. 3. As B content is increased corrosion resistance is decreased and is at best with 1.5% B content. Corrosion resistance is increased with the increase of Si content and the alloys with Si over 3.0% showed corrosion resistance. 4. As B content increased, precipitates are increased in number at grain boundaries. The grain size tends to become coarse with the increase of Si content. 5. Co rich-Cr alloy is present through matrix whereas at the grain boundaries Cr base precipitates are primarily formed.
The effect of heat treatment on the micro-structures and the mechanical properties of 0.002% boron added low carbon steel was investigated. The tensile strength reached the peak at about $880-890^{\circ}C$ with the rising quenching temperature and then the hardness decreased sharply, but the tensile strength hardly decreased. The tensile and yield strength decreased and the total elongation increased with a rising tempering temperature, but the tensile and yield strength sharply fell and the total elongation prominently increased from above a $400-450^{\circ}C$ tempering temperature. Tempered martensite embrittlement (TME) was observed at tempering condition of $350-400^{\circ}C$. In the condition of quenching at $890^{\circ}C$ and tempering at $350^{\circ}C$, the boron precipitates were observed as Fe-C-B and BN together. The hardness decreased in proportion to the tempering temperature untill $350^{\circ}C$ and dropped sharply above $400^{\circ}C$ regardless of the quenching temperature.

In this study, it was proposed a direct tensile testing machine(DTTM) to be simple and to be applied to High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composites(HPFRCCs), and it was examined the tensile properties of HPFRCCs by this machine. As a results, it was confirmed that a direct tensile test of HPFRCCs could be certainly carried out DTTM to be developed in this study. Also, tensile strength and yield strength of HPFRCCs were similar regardless of specimens thickness. And, all specimens revealed the stable strain-hardening behavior and multiple cracking in flexible and tensile loads. But, deviation of strain at ultimate tensile strength increased with the increase of specimen thickness.

A compact heat exchanger is one of critical components in a very high temperature gas-cooled reactor (VHTR). Alloy 617 (Ni-Cr-Co-Mo) is considered as one of leading candidates for this application due to its excellent thermal stability and strengths in anticipated operating conditions. On the basis of current ASME code requirements, sixty sheets of this alloy are prepared for diffusion welding, which is the key technology to have a reliable compact heat exchanger. Optical microscopic analysis show that there are no cracks, incomplete bond, and porosity at/near the interface of diffusion weldment, but Cr-rich carbides and Al-rich oxides are identified through high resolution electron microscopic analysis. In high-temperature tensile testing, superior yield strengths of the diffusion weldment compared to the code requirement are obtained up to 1223 K ($950^{\circ}C$). However, both tensile strength and ductility drop rapidly at higher temperature due to the insufficient grain boundary migration across the interface of diffusion weldment. Best fit curves for minimum yield strength and average tensile strength are drawn from the experimental tensile results of this study.

A tensile test evaluation of a polypropylene plate was carried out using an Instron tester with a capacity of 500 kgf. To evaluate the strain rate sensitivity of the polypropylene plate with a thickness of 0.8 mm, a tensile test was performed at room temperature through strain rate variations from $5{\times}10^{-4}/sec$ to $5{\times}10^{-2}/sec$. From these, the changes in strength due to the strain rate change and temperature change were compared. As a result of the experiment, the strength increased with increasing initial strain rate. Polypropylene was found to be a material with a positive strain rate sensitivity. In addition, the high temperature tensile properties of the polypropylene plate were evaluated using high temperature tensile tests at 80, 120, and $160^{\circ}C$. The strength decreased with increasing temperature. In particular at $160^{\circ}C$, the tensile strength decreased to zero. The increase in yield strength and the tensile strength at room temperature, $80^{\circ}C$ and $120^{\circ}C$ were similar. At $160^{\circ}C$, however, there was almost no increase in strength because the stress approached zero. In the high temperature tensile test, the tensile strength increased more than the increase in yield strength with increasing strain rate.

Demand for new nondestructive evaluations is growing to detect tensile crack growth behavior to predict long term performance of materials and structure in aggressive environments, especially when they are in non-visible area. Acoustic emission technique is well suited to these problems and has drawn a keen interests because of its dynamic detection ability, extreme sensitivity and location of growing defects. In this study, we analysed acoustic emission signals obtained in tensile test of high strength fire resistance steel for frame structure with time frequency analysis methods. The results obtained are summaries as follows ; In the T and TN specimen consisting of ferrite and pearlite grains, most of acoustic emission events were produced near yield point, mainly due to the dislocation activities during the deformation. However, B specimen under $600^{\circ}C$ - 10min had a two peak which was attribute to the presence of martensite phase. The first peak is before yield point the second is after yield point. The sources of second acoustic emission peak were the debonding of martensite-martensite interface and the micro-cracking of brittle martensite phase. In $600^{\circ}C$-30min to $700^{\circ}C$-60min specimens, many signals were observed from area before yield point and counts were decreased after yield point.

Direct tensile tests were carried out for the tensile members of MMA-modified polymer concrete with different steel kinds and steel diameters and steel ratios to figure out the effect of tensile strength of polymer concrete. In the experiments, MMA-modified polymer concrete with $1000\;kgf/cm^2$ of compressive strength, steel with $5200\;kgf/cm^2$ of tensile strength, and the tensile members with 100 cm of constant length were used. Experimental results showed that, regardless of steel kinds, diameters and steel content, the strain energy exerted by concrete till the initial crack was $14-15\%$ of the total energy till the point of yield: The energy was much larger than the one of high-strength cement concrete. The behaviors of tensile members of MMA-modified polymer concrete were in relatively good agreement with the model suggested by Gupta-Maestrini (1990), which was idealized by the effective tensile stress-strain relationship of concrete and the load-strain relationship of members, while those showed a big difference from CEB-FIP model and ACI-224 equation suggested for the load-displacement relationship that was defined as the cross sectional stiffness of effective axis. Modified ACI-224 model code about the load-displacement relationship for the tensile members of MMA-modified polymer concrete and theoretical equation for the polymer concrete tensile stiffness of polymer concrete suggested through the results of this study are expected to be used in an accurate structural analysis and resign for the polymer concrete structural members.

Formability of sheet metals can be evaluated using tensile testing. Easily measured tensile properties such as yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, strain hardening exponent, strain rate sensitivity and plastic strain ratio are important parameters to evaluated the sheet formability. This paper briefly explains how these properties are related to deep drawability and stretchability. The plastic anisotropy of sheet metals is usually attributed to the crystallographic texture. However dislocation distribution may influence the anisotropy.
The effect of various alloying elements and melt treatment on the microstructural control of Al-Sn metallic bearing alloy was investigated. The thickness of tin film crystallized around primary aluminum decreased with the addition of 5% Cu in Al-Sn alloy, with tin particles being reduced in size by intervening the Ostwald ripening. With the addition of Si in Al-10%Sn alloy, the tin particles were crystallized with eutectic silicon, resulting in uniform distribution of tin particles. With the addition of Cu and Si in Al-Sn alloy, both the tensile strength and yield strength increased, with the increasing rate of yield strength being less than that of tensile strength. Although the Al-10%Sn-7%Si alloy has similar tensile strength compared with Al-10%Sn-5%Cu, the former showed superior abrasion resistance, resulting from preventing the tin particles from movement to the abrasion surface.
