A temperature equation which is derived from an enthalpy transport equation by using an assumption of a constant specific heat is very attractive for analyses of heat and fluid flows. It can be used for an analysis of a solid-fluid conjugate heat transfer, and it does not need a numerical method to find temperature from a temperature-enthalpy relation. But its application is limited because of the assumption. A new method is derived in this study, which is a temperature-explicit formulation of the energy equation. The enthalpy form of the energy equation is used in the method. But the final discrete form of the equation is expressed with temperature. It can be used for a solid-fluid conjugate heat transfer and multiphase flows. It is found by numerical tests that it is very efficient and as accurate as the standard enthalpy formulation.

This paper proposes an EMPC (Explicit Model Predictive Controller) for temperature tracking control based on heat load prediction by an ESO (Extended State Observer) for a variable cooling circulation system with multiple indoor units connected to one outdoor unit. In this system, heat transfer and heat loss relative to the input temperature are modeled using system dynamics. Using this model, we design an EMPC based on an ESO that is robust to temperature changes and depends on airflow. To determine the stability of both the controller and the observer, asymptotic stability is verified through Lyapunov stability analysis. Finally, to validate the performance of the proposed controller, simulations are conducted under three scenarios with varying airflow, set temperature, and heat load.

This paper assesses the prediction performance of explicit algebraic stress and heat-flux models for reduction of heat transfer coefficient in a strongly-heated vertical tube. Two explicit algebraic stress models and four explicit algebraic heat-flux models are selected for assessment. Eight combinations of explicit algebraic stress and heat-flux models are used in predicting the turbulent gas flows with intense heating, which yields the significant property-variation. The results showed that the two combinations of GS-AKN and WJ-mAKN predicted the Nusselt number and the axial wall temperature variations well and that the predictions of Nusselt number with WJ-combinations spread in a wider range than those with Gs-combinations. WJ is the explicit algebraic stress model of Wallin and Johansson and GS is the model of Gatski and Speziale and that AKN is the explicit heat-flux model of Abe, Kondoh and Nagano and mAKN is the modified AKN.

The on-the-fly energy release per fission (OTFK) model is implemented in STREAM to continuously update the Kappa values during the depletion calculation. The explicit neutron and photon energy distribution, which has not been considered in previous STREAM versions, is incorporated into the existing on-the-fly model. The impacts of the modified OTFK model with explicit neutron and photon heating in STREAM on the power distribution, fuel temperature, and other core parameters during depletion with feedback calculations are studied using several problems from the VERA benchmark suit. Overall, the explicit heating calculation provides a better power map for the feedback calculations particularly when strong gamma emitters are present. Generally, the fuel temperature decreases when neutron and photon heating is employed because fission neutrons and gamma rays are transported away from their points of generation. This energy release model in STREAM indicates that gamma energy accounts for approximately 9.5%-10% of the total energy released, and approximately 2.4%-2.6% of the total energy released will be deposited in the coolant for the VERA 5, NuScale, and Yonggwang Unit 3 2D cores.
In the present work, an explicit finite element analysis technique is introduced to analyze the thermal stress fields present in the additive manufacturing process. To this purpose, a finite element matrix formulation is derived from the equations of motion and continuity. The developed code, NET3D, is then applied to various sample problems including thermal stress development. The application of heat to an inclusion from an external source establishes an initial temperature from which heat flows to the surrounding body in the sample problems. The development of thermal stress due to the mismatch between the thermal strains is analyzed. As mass scaling can be used to shorten the computation time of explicit analysis, a mass scaling of 108 is employed here, which yields almost identical results to the quasi-static results.
The impact of temperature on electrode reactions in 100 cm2 molten carbonate cells operating as Fuel Cells (FC) and Electrolysis Cells (EC) was examined using the Reactant Gas Addition (RA) method across a temperature range of 823 to 973 K. The RA findings revealed that introduction of H2 and CO2, reduced the overpotential at Hydrogen Electrode (HE) in both the modes. However, no explicit temperature dependencies were observed. Conversely, adding O2 and CO2 to the Oxygen Electrode (OE) displayed considerable temperature dependencies in FC mode which can be attributed to increased gas solubility due to the electrolyte melting at higher temperatures. In EC mode, there was no observed temperature dependence for overpotential. Furthermore, the addition of O2 led to a decrease in overpotential, while CO2 addition resulted in an increased overpotential, primarily due to changes in the concentration of O2 species.
The Interactions of shock wave with turbulent boundary layers in high-speed flows cause complex flowfields which result in increased adverse pressure gradients, skin friction and temperature. Accurate and reliable prediction of such phenomena is needed in designing high-speed propulsion systems. Such analyses of the complex flowfields require sophisticated numerical scheme that can resolve interactions between shock wave and boundary layers accurately. Therefore the purpose of the present. article is to introduce an accurate and efficient mixed explicit-implicit generalized Galerkin finite element method. To demonstrate the validity of the theory and numerical procedure, several benchmark cases are investigated.
Efficient algorithm for the solidification simulation by FDM is described from the practical point of views. If a proper time step ${\Delta}t$ is selected, the calculation is accelerated by implicit algorithm with the temperature recovery method of latent heat method. The implicit routine in the calculation is processed by SOR method(relaxation factor=1.5, truncation error=$10^{-4}$). The calculation is more accelerated by linear-interpolated explicite algorithm with a time step larger than the minimum value of the time step. This explicit method, which is applicable to the practical casting simulation problems, produces almost same results with about 40% faster calculation speed compared with the conventional explicit method.

Friction generated from balls and grooves incurs temperature rise in the ballscrew system. Thermal deformation due to the heat degrades positioning accuracy of the feed drive system. To compensate for the thermal error, accurate prediction of the temperature distribution is required first. In this paper, to predict the temperature distribution according to the rotational speed, solid and hollow cylinders are applied for analysis of the ballscrew shaft and nut, respectively. Boundary conditions such as the convective heat transfer coefficient, friction torque, and thermal contact conductance (TCC) between balls and grooves are formulated according to operating and fabrication conditions of the ballscrew. Explicit FDM (finite difference method) is studied for development of a temperature prediction simulator. Its effectiveness is verified through numerical analysis.
A numerical study was performed on the transient fuel temperatures of a military aircraft stationed under non-operating static condition. Numerical calculation was peformed by an explicit method using modified Dufort-Frankel scheme. It was assumed that the non-operating aircraft is subjected to repeated daily cycles of air temperature with the solar radiation and wind speed corresponding to the 1 % hot day ambient condition. And, the aircraft was assumed to be in turbulent flow. The convective heat transfer coefficient for turbulent flow on the flat plate suggested by Eckert was employed to calculate heat transfer between the aircraft surface and the ambience. The energy conservation equation on fuel was used as governing equation for this analysis. As a result of this analysis, the wing tank temperature showed the highest temperature and the largest rate of temperature changes among fuel tanks. The results of this analysis could be used as initial foe] temperatures for analysis of the transient fuel temperatures in various flight missions. Also, this analysis method could be used to analysis and design of an aircraft thermal energy management system.
