In this paper, four types of insulation coils were fabricated by adding various kinds of glycols to improve the flexibility and adhesion of insulating coils in varnish dispersed with PAI / Nano Silica_15wt%. The applied voltage and frequency were 1.5 kV / 20 kHz for accelerated life evaluation. Through the 6th temperature stress level, the cause of the insulation breakdown of the coil was ignored and only the breakdown time was measured. The Arrhenius model was chosen based on the theoretical relationship between chemical reaction rate and temperature for estimating the insulation life of the coil due to accelerated thermal stress. Three types of distributions (Weibull, Lognormal, Exponential) were selected as the relationship between thermal stress model and distribution. The average insulation lifetime was estimated under the temperature stress of four types of insulation coils through the relationship between one kind of model and three kinds of distributions.
Thermal history and thermal stress of alumina specimen, which occured from thermal shock process, were calculated by finite difference method. Stress intensity factor and crack growth in cyclic thermal fatigue were calculated from single thermal shock temperature history and thermal stress. Cyclic thermal life were estimated by bending strength after cyclic thermal shock under critical thermal shock temperature. Calculated stress intensity factor was compared with real experimental thermal fatigue life of specimen. Fatigue life until critical stress intensity factor and real experimental result were comparable.
Using a strain-controlled rheometer [Rheometrics Dynamic Analyzer (RDA II)], the steady shear flow properties of a semi-solid ointment base (vaseline) have been measured over a wide range of shear rates at temperature range of $25{\sim}60^{\circ}C$. In this article, the steady shear flow properties (shear stress, steady shear viscosity and yield stress) were reported from the experimentally obtained data and the effects of shear rate as well as temperature on these properties were discussed in detail. In addition, several inelastic-viscoplastic flow models including a yield stress parameter were employed to make a quantitative evaluation of the steady shear flow behavior, and then the applicability of these models was examined by calculating the various material parameters (yield stress, consistency index and flow behavior index). Main findings obtained from this study can be summarized as follows : (1) At temperature range lower than $40^{\circ}C$, vaseline is regarded as a viscoplastic material having a finite magnitude of yield stress and its flow behavior beyond a yield stress shows a shear-thinning (or pseudo-plastic) feature, indicating a decrease in steady shear viscosity as an increase in shear rate. At this temperature range, the flow curve of vaseline has two inflection points and the first inflection point occurring at relatively lower shear rate corresponds to a static yield stress. The static yield stress of vaseline is decreased with increasing temperature and takes place at a lower shear rate, due to a progressive breakdown of three dimensional network structure. (2) At temperature range higher than $45^{\circ}C$, vaseline becomes a viscous liquid with no yield stress and its flow character exhibits a Newtonian behavior, demonstrating a constant steady shear viscosity regardless of an increase in shear rate. With increasing temperature, vaseline begins to show a Newtonian behavior at a lower shear rate range, indicating that the microcrystalline structure is completely destroyed due to a synergic effect of high temperature and shear deformation. (3) Over a whole range of temperatures tested, the Herschel-Bulkley, Mizrahi-Berk, and Heinz-Casson models are all applicable and have an almostly equivalent ability to quantitatively describe the steady shear flow behavior of vaseline, whereas the Bingham, Casson, and Vocadlo models do not give a good ability.
The formability of magnesium alloy sheets at room temperature is generally low because of the inherently limited number of slip systems, but higher at temperatures over $150^{\circ}C$. Therefore, prior to the practical application of these materials, the forming limits should be evaluated as a function of the temperature and strain rate. This can be achieved experimentally by performing a series of tests or analytically by deriving the corresponding modeling approaches. However, before the formability analysis can be conducted, a model of flow stress, which includes the effects of strain, strain rate and temperature, should be carefully identified. In this paper, such procedure is carried out for Mg alloy AZ31 and the concept of flow stress surface is proposed. Experimental flow stresses at four temperature levels ($150^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$, $250^{\circ}C$, $300^{\circ}C$) each with the pre-assigned strain rate levels of $0.01s^{-1}$, $0.1s^{-1}$ and $1.0s^{-1}$ are collected in order to establish the relationships between these variables. The temperature-compensated strain rate parameter which combines, in a single variable, the effects of temperature and strain rate, is introduced to capture these relationships in a compact manner. This study shows that the proposed concept of flow stress surface is practically relevant for the evaluation of temperature and strain dependent formability.
Generally, the life of casting mold is limited by fatigue fracture or dimensional inaccuracy originated from wear in high temperature. Although recent research of metallic materials in high temperature fatigue have been much accomplished, many studies on brittle material as a die steel in high temperature fatigue does not have been reported. Especially, the study on the fatigue behavior over the transformation temperature is not studied sufficiently because of its difficult analysis and experiment. Therefore, reliable results of brittle material in high temperature fatigue behavior are needed. In this paper, stress-strain curves and stress-life curves in die STD61 steel are carefully examined between room temperature and 90$0^{\circ}C$, as the basic experimental data are used to predict from fatigue life of casting mold.
Low temperature fatigue crack propagation ratio and characteristics of the pressure structural steel which is used for the low temperature pressure vessels. Fatigue crack properties was studied at room temperature of $25^{\circ}C$ and low temperature ranges $-60^{\circ}C,\; -80^{\circ}C \;and\; -100^{\circ}C$ with stress ratio of R=0.05, 0.1, 0.3 in the logarithmic relationship between the fatigue crack propagation rate (da/dN) and stress intensity factor $\DeltaK$, in low temperature case the relationship was extend to the range of low crack propagation rate. The fractured specimens were examined by SEM tested. That results showed specimen failed at low temperature exhibit the quasi-cleavage fracture formation, however, considerable ductility proceed final fracture.
The life of transformer is significantly dependent on the thermal behavior in windings. To analyse winding temperature rise, many transformer designer have calculated temperature distribution and hot spot point by finite element method(FEM). Recently, numerical analyses of transformer are studied for optimum design, that is electric field analysis, magnetic field, potential vibration, thermal distribution and thermal stress. Therefore design time and design cost are decreased by numerical analysis. In this paper, the temperature distribution and thermal stress analysis of 50kVA pole cast resin transformer for power distribution are investigated by FEM program. The temperature change according to load rates of transformer also have been investigated. We have carried out temperature rise test and test results are compared with simulation data.
We compared the spatial distribution of several heat stress indices (the Wet-Bulb Globe Temperature(WBGT) index, Environmental Stress Index (ESI), and Modified Discomfort Index(MDI)) for the heat wave of June 6~August 26, 2016, in Daegu. We calculated the heat stress indices using data from the high density urban climate observation network in Daegu. The observation system was established in February. 2013. We used data from a total of 38 air temperature observation points (23 thermometers and 18 automatic weather stations). The values of the heat stress indices indicated that the danger level was very high from 0900-2000h in downtown Daegu. The daily maximum value of the WBGT was greater than or equal to $35^{\circ}C$. The differences in the heat stress indices from downtown and rural areas were higher in the daytime than at nighttime. The maximum difference was about 4 before and after 1400h, and the time variations of the heat stress indices corresponded well. Thus, we were able to confirm that the ESI and MDI can be substituted with the WBGT index.
Creep life prediction has been commonly used by a time-temperature parameter (TTP) which is correlated to an applied stress and temperature, such as Larson-Miller (LM), Orr-Sherby-Dorn (OSD), Manson-Haferd (MH) and Manson-Succop (MS) parameters. A stress-temperature linear model (STLM) based on Arrhenius, Dorn and Monkman-Grant equations was newly proposed through a mathematical procedure. For this model, the logarithm time to rupture was linearly dependent on both an applied stress and temperature. The model parameters were properly determined by using a technique of maximum likelihood estimation of a statistical method, and this model was applied to the creep data of Alloy 617. From the results, it is found that the STLM results showed better agreement than the Eno’s model and the LM parameter ones. Especially, the STLM revealed a good estimation in predicting the long-term creep life of Alloy 617.
