Development of Tele-operation system Based on the Haptic Interface

  • In this paper, we investigate the issues for the design and implementation of tele-operation system based on the haptic interface. Here, the 3-DOF haptic device and the x-y-z stage are employed as master controller and slave system respectively. In this master-slave system, the force feedback algorithm, the modeling of virtual environments and the control method of x-y-z stage are proposed. In this paper, inernet network is used for data communication between master and slave. We construct virtual environment of the real convex surface from the force-feedback in controlling the X-Y-Z stage and getting the force applied by the 3-DOF haptic device.

  • This paper discusses the interacting mobile robots for tele-operation system using the world wide web. In multi-agent and web-based teleoperation environment the problem of communication delay must be solved for the efficient and robust control of the system. The standard graphic user interface(GUI)is implemented using Java Programing language. The web browser is used to integrate the virtual environment and the standard GUI(Java applet) in a single user interface. Users can access a dedicated WWWserver and download the user interface. Reinforcement learning is applied to indirect control in order to autonomously operate without the need of human intervention.   • 본 논문은 유연하고 탄력적인 네트워크 구조를 제공하는 Jini를 기반으로 하는 이동 로봇 제어 시스템의 설계와 구현 방법을 제안한다. 기존의 tele-operation 시스템의 단방향 제어을 개선하여, 제안한 시스템에서는 양방향 제어가 가능하고 클라이언트 시스템과 로봇이 상호 연동할 수 있는 구조를 가진다. 기존의 tele-operation 시스템에 Jini 기술을 도입하여 네트워크상에서 자원 이동이 간편하고 분산 컴퓨팅이 가능한 시스템을 제안하고자 한다. 본 논문은 구체적으로 복수의 작업장 사이에서 자율 이동이 가능하고 새로운 작업장의 네트워크에 자동으로 적응할 수 있는 이동 로봇시스템과 이러한 로봇 시스템과 연결될 수 네트워크 시스템을 제안한다.

  • In this paper, we describe gesture recognition algorithm using computer vision sensor and HMM. The automatic hand region extraction has been proposed for initializing the tracking of the tele-operation gestures. For this, distance informations(disparity map) as results of stereo matching of initial left and right images are employed to isolate the hand region from a scene. PDOE(positive difference of edges) feature images adapted here have been found to be robust against noise and background brightness. The KNU/KAERI(K/K) gesture instruction set is defined for tele-operation in atomic electric power stations. The composite recognition model constructed by concatenating three gesture instruction models including pre-orders, basic orders, and post-orders has been proposed and identified by discrete HMM. Our experimental results showed that consecutive orders composed of more than two ones are correctly recognized at the rate of above 97%.

  • Hybrid robust image processing algorithm to extract visual features of melon during the cultivation was developed based on a wireless tele-operative interface. Features of a melon such as size and shape including position were crucial to successful task automation and future development of cultivation data base. An algorithm was developed based on the concept of hybrid decision-making which shares a task between the computer and the operator utilizing man-computer interactive interface. A hybrid decision-making system was composed of three modules such as wireless image transmission, task specification and identification, and man-computer interface modules. Computing burden and the instability of the image processing results caused by the variation of illumination and the complexity of the environment caused by the irregular stem and shapes of leaves and shades were overcome using the proposed algorithm. With utilizing operator's teaching via LCD touch screen of the display monitor, the complexity and instability of the melon identification process has been avoided. Hough transform was modified for the image obtained from the locally specified window to extract the geometric shape and position of the melon. It took less than 200 milliseconds processing time.
