Purpose: This study addressed the relationship between technological innovation activity and management efficiency of Korean automobile firms. We tested the hypothesis of non-liner relationship of innovation activity in relation to management efficiency. Methods: We discussed prior literature in the firm innovation strategy and management efficiency studies to provide better understanding of relationships between technological innovation activity and management efficiency. As a result, we developed develop and tested a model (Inverted-U shaped) capturing the non-linear impact of technological innovation activity. While we used R&D expenditure and patent registration data for measuring firms' innovation activity, management efficiency was evaluated by using DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis). Results: Main findings of our empirical analysis indicated that the relationships between technological innovation activity and management efficiency was inverted U shaped. This implied that the relationship between technological innovation and management efficiency is inverted U-shaped non-linear, with management efficiency increasing up to a point, beyond which higher levels of R&D and patent registration activities led to a decrease in management efficiency. Conclusion: This study empirically assessed the inconclusive findings of previous research in the area of effects of innovation activities in relation to firm performance. The paper also provided theoretical and practical implications for firms who explore efficient strategy to promote the management performance through technological innovation activities. Future research directions with the limitation of the study was discussed.

기술혁신은 모든 산업에 있어 차별적 경쟁우위의 주요한 원천이 되면서 동시에 기업의 많은 자원이 투자되는 경영활동이라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 많은 성공적인 기업의 이면에는 반드시 뛰어난 기술혁신과 이를 위한 투자가 있다. 그러나 기술혁신투자가 모든 경우에 바람직한 성과로 직결되는 것은 아니며 생산전략 및 생산활동과 효과적으로 연계되어야만 가능할 것이다. 본 연구는 Abernathy St Utterback(1975)의 기술혁신모형을 국내 전자산업을 대상으로 실증적으로 검증하고 기술혁신이 생산전략 및 생산활동과 어떠한 상관관계를 가지고 있는지를 분석하였다. 따라서 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 기술혁신이 기업성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 규범적 연구의 토대를 구축하는 것이 본 연구의 궁극적 목표이다.

Although a wide range of theoretical researches have emphasized on the importance of knowledge management in cooperative R&D network, the empirical researches to synthetically examine the role of organizational learning and open innovation which influence on the performance of technological innovation are not enough to meet academic and practical demands. This study is to investigate the effect of open innovation and organizational learning in venture business on technological competitive advantage and establish the mediating role of organizational learning. For the purpose, the questionnaires, made based on the reviewing previous researches, were collected from 274 Korean venture businesses whose managerial focus is on developing technological innovation. As a result of analysis, the relational dimensions of open innovation - network, intensity and trust shared by a firm with external R&D partners - as well as the internal organizational learning system and competence have positive influence on building technological competitive advantage whose sub-variables are technological excellence, market growth potential and business feasibility. In addition, it is identified that organizational learning has the mediating and moderating effect in the relationship between open innovation and technological competitive advantage. These results imply that open innovation complements and expend the range of limited resources and the scope of innovation in technology-intensive small and medium-sized enterprises. Besides, organizational learning activity reinforces the use of knowledge and resources, obtained from external R&D partners. On the basis of these results, detailed issues and discussion were made in the conclusion.

본 연구는 그동안 기술혁신 활동이 자체 기업 또는 조직, 인적 구성원의 역량과 활동 방법에 따라 다름에도 불구하고 이의 실행에 대한 혁신저항을 적극 고려하지 않았던 기존 연구의 한계를 보완하여 기업의 기술혁신 역량과 활동이 조직 내 혁신저항과 성과에 미치는 영향력이 어느 정도 차이가 있는지 이를 밝히는데 목적을 갖고 국내 IT, BT기업 293개사를 대상으로 실증 조사하였다. 그 결과를 보면 첫째, 가설1의 기업의 기술혁신 역량이 기술혁신 저항에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳐 채택되었다. 둘째, 가설2의 기술혁신 활동은 기술혁신 저항에 긍정적인 영향을 미치지 않아 기각되었다. 셋째, 기술혁신 저항은 기술혁신 성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳐 채택되었다. 넷째, 기술혁신 저항은 기술혁신 역량과 기술혁신 성과 사이에 매개 효과는 긍정적인 영향을 미쳐 채택되었다. 다섯째, 기술혁신 저항은 기술혁신 활동과 기술혁신 성과 사이에 매개효과는 긍정적인 영향을 미치지 않아 기각되었다. 전체적으로 기술혁신 역량이 높을수록 기술혁신 저항에 유의적인 영향을 미치는 상관성을 갖고 기술혁신 저항 또한 저항 정도에 따라 기술혁신 역량과 성과를 증진 또는 저하시킬 수 있음을 시사해 주었다.

본 연구에서는 산업의 혁신패턴이 기술체제에 좌우된다는 산업별 혁신체제론적 접근에 따라 산업의 기술체제 특성이 지식전파와 혁신성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 과학기술정책연구원의 "2008년 기술혁신활동조사: 제조업"DB 자료를 이용하여 기술체제에 따라 산업을 분류하고 계량모형을 이용해 지식외부성의 원천과 지식전파가 유발하는 기술혁신을 산업별로 분석하였는데, 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째 특수적 암묵적 지식기반 산업에서는 일반적 명목적 지식기반 산업과 달리 기업의 혁신성과가 입지특성으로부터 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났으며, 고기술-특수적 암묵적 지식기반 산업에서는 연구개발자본이 풍부한 지역, 저기술-특수적 암묵적 지식기반 산업에서는 동종산업의 집적도가 높은 지역에 입지한 기업일수록 제품혁신이 활발하였다. 둘째 제품혁신을 선도적 혁신과 추종적 혁신으로 구분하여 지식전파가 유발하는 혁신수준을 산업별로 알아보았는데, 저기술산업에서는 외부로부터 전파된 지식이 선도적 혁신과 추종적 혁신을 유발하고 고기술산업에서는 추종적 혁신만 유발하는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 분석결과로부터 지식외부성의 원천과 지식전파가 유발하는 기술혁신의 수준은 산업의 기술체제에 따라 다르며, 지역산업 클러스터정책은 산업의 기술체제 특성을 감안해 모색할 필요가 있다는 함의를 얻고 있다.

This paper focuses on the relationship between innovation and export performance of technology-based firms in Korea. This study analyses the relationship between innovative activity and firm's performances using a sample of 760 technology-based firms in Korea. As for the firm's performance indicators, export is employed. The empirical results support that innovation has a positive effect on firm's export performance. However, for small and medium firms, the relationship between innovative activity and export performance is an U-shape quadratic form, which shows that small firms takes a minimum innovative expenditure in order to access the abroad market. Also, with product differentiation, innovative firms tends to devot more to domestic market than to abroad market. Therefore, it can be concluded that innovative activity builds market power and accelerates export performance. And product differentiation through advertising expenditure make innovative firms less exporting.

기업들에 있어서 고용은 혁신활동의 결과를 바탕으로 하는 연속된 의사결정과정이다. 따라서 기술혁신을 통한 고용성과를 살펴봄에 있어서 이 같은 관계성을 명시적으로 분석에 고려할 필요가 있다. 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로 본 연구에서는 중소기업의 기술혁신과 고용효과의 관계를 선행 연구와 같이 단일방정식을 추정하는 순위로짓(ordered logit) 모형으로 분석할 뿐 아니라, 연립방정식을 추정하는 외견무관회귀(SUR) 모형을 활용하여 실제 동시적으로 수행되어지는 기술경영 과정의 상관성을 반영하여 기업의 혁신활동과 기술혁신 성과, 보상제도 그리고 고용 창출의 구조적 관계를 분석하고자 하였다. 분석 결과, 보상제도의 시행은 기술개발 및 기술사업화 성과를 높이고, 이것은 다시 기업의 고용을 촉진하는 구조적 관계를 확인할 수 있었다. 특히 고용성과에 있어 기술개발 뿐 아니라 사업화 성과가 일종의 허들로 작용한다는 점에서 기술혁신을 프로세스 관점에서 관리할 때 기업의 고용성과는 높아진다고 볼 수 있겠다.

Korean Innovation Systems are in transition from catch-up regime to post catch-up regime. This paper tries to analyse the change of scientific and technological practices in the public sector of Korea Innovation Systems. This paper focus on the way public sector scientific and technological practices are regulated and contribute to private sector. It is argued that self-governing practice of public S&T community is being enhanced and the requests of private sector for the public sector's contribution through research activity are reinforced in emerging post catch-up regime.

In This Study, New Product Development Activities, Innovation Activities, Technical Cooperation Activities may have an Impact on Competitive Advantage, Development Performance and Business Performance. The aim of Empirical Analyze is to identify the Structural Causal Relationship among the Activities and Performance Factors. We get the Results as Follows : New Product Development Activities have a Positive Impact on Competitive Advantage as well as the Development Performance. Technological Innovation Activities have a Positive Impact on Competitive Advantage, and do not have enough Impact on the Development Performance. Technical Cooperation Activities have a Positive Impact on the Development Performance, and do not have enough Impact on the Competitive Advantage, Competitive Advantage has a Positive Impact on the Development Performance as well as the Business Performance. Development Performance has a Positive Impact on the Business Performance.

This study investigates the determinants of output of a manufacturing firm's innovative activity (the number of patent applications) and spillover effects using a count data model. This paper attempted a negative binomial distribution In order to take into account unobserved heterogeneity. The results of our study suggested that Firm size, R&D intensity, technical network activity, and online business performance have significantly positive effects in the Korean manufacturing industry. Moreover, there are significantly positive spillover effects in the same industry sector.
