근로시간 및 교대근무편성의 문제점과 개선방향 (Problems of Working Hours and Shift Work Systems, and Propsed Methods for Their Improvement)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the present conditions of the night work and shift work systems in the heavy chemical industrial complexes found in Changwon, Masan, and Chinhae. Korea. We will attempt to define and classify their problems; and to discover further ways to improve their systems. Fifty production factories were carefully selected as the subjects for this study. The shift systems were classified into five categories. The consecutive night shifts were long in almost all cases with 6 days (36 factories) and 7 days (13 factories). It was found that the night work of about] 2 hours continues for a long period in the weekly rotation full-day shift systems and the night-including non-full-day shift systems, and there was no holiday during a shift cycle in the continuous full-day shift systems. The work time in most shift systems was longer than the 44-hours/week permitted by Korean law. Considering the characteristics of these various types of shift systems, the most essential thing to reduce the shift workers' work load may be to shorten their working hours and improve the schedule of shift systems. It is highly recommended as a fundamental solution. to reduce the portal-to-portal hours from 12 to 8 in the night-including non-full-day shift systems and the weekly rotation full-day shift systems, and at least to employ a 4-team 3-shift system in the continuous full-day shift systems. In addition to this, it should from now on be taken as a goal to restructure the types of shift systems by taking such measures as avoiding continuous night work if possible, providing sufficient off-duty intervals both before and after night shift, providing increased opportunities for workers to nap during night work. and increasing the number of holidays.

중소기업에서 요구되는 직업역량과 역량기반 교육과정 개발 (Work-Competencies and Competency-based Curriculum Development)

  • 본 연구에서는 지역 산업체를 대상으로 4년제 대학을 졸업한 신입사원들에게 요구되는 직업핵심역량을 조사하고 대학의 교육과정을 분석하여 대학 교육이 학생들에게 필요한 핵심역량을 함양시켜주고 있는지 분석하였다. 분석결과를 바탕으로 지역 산업체에서 대학생들에게 요구하는 핵심역량을 제안하고 역량기반 교육과정 개발의 필요성을 검토하였다. 본 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 대구 경북에 소재하는 300개 기업을 대상으로 직업핵심역량에 대한 설문조사를 시행하였다. 아울러 최근 교육과학기술부로부터 '학부교육 선도대학'으로 선정되어 지원을 받고 있는 4개의 지역 대학을 선별하여 교양교육과정을 분석하였다. 연구결과 지역 산업체에서 가장 많이 요구되는 핵심역량은 대인관계역량과 자기관리역량으로 나타났다. 그러나 지역대학의 교육과정 분석결과 대학은 의사소통 교과목을 가장 많이 개설하고 있었고 대인관계 및 자기관리역량과 관련된 강좌는 상대적으로 적게 개설되는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 업무 효율성 증진을 위한 역량중심의 교육과정의 필요성이 제언 되었다.

Healthcare Work and Organizational Interventions to Prevent Work-related Stress in Brindisi, Italy

  • Background: Organizational changes that involve healthcare hospital departments and care services of health districts, and ongoing technological innovations and developments in society increasingly expose healthcare workers (HCWs) to work-related stress (WRS). Minimizing occupational exposure to stress requires effective risk stress assessment and management programs. Methods: The authors conducted an integrated analysis of stress sentinel indicators, an integrated analysis of objective stress factors of occupational context and content areas, and an integrated analysis between nurses and physicians of hospital departments and care services of health districts in accordance with a multidimensional validated tool developed in Italy by the National Network for the Prevention of Work-Related Psychosocial Disorders. The purpose of this retrospective observational study was to detect and analyze in different work settings the level of WRS resulting from organizational changes implemented by hospital healthcare departments and care services of health districts in a sample of their employees. Results: The findings of the study showed that hospital HCWs seemed to incur a medium level risk of WRS that was principally the result of work context factors. The implementation of improvement interventions focused on team development, safety training programs, and adopting an ethics code for HCWs, and it effectively and significantly reduced the level of WRS risk in the workplace. Conclusion: In this study HCW resulted to be exposed to occupational stress factors susceptible to reduction. Stress management programs aimed to improve work context factors associated with occupational stress are required to minimize the impact of WRS on workers.

의료취약지역 응급실 전담간호사 근무환경이 근무 불만족과 이직의도에 영향을 미치는 요인 (The Effect of the Working Environment of Nurses Working in Emergency Departments in Medically Vulnerable Areas on Work Dissatisfaction and Turnover Intention)

  • Background: The purpose of this study is to identify factors that affect work dissatisfaction and turnover intention for dedicated nurses working in emergency departments of vulnerable areas of health care. The purpose of this study is to identify risk factors related to the working environment that influence job dissatisfaction and intention to turnover among dedicated nurses working in emergency rooms in areas of medical vulnerability. Methods: We conducted a survey of nurses working in emergency rooms in vulnerable areas of medical care, and the survey was conducted for two consecutive years. A logistic regression analysis was performed with the working environment variable as the independent variable and the work environment dissatisfaction and turnover intention as dependent variables, respectively. Results: The variables that significantly affected both dissatisfactions with the working environment and turnover intention at the current institution were age, overlapping work in other departments, and the total work experience of nurses. Annual salary, the average number of double-duty (continuous work) per month, type of work, and work experience of nurses at the current institution had a significant effect only on dissatisfaction with the working environment. Conclusion: The results of this study are thought to be of great help if the government takes reference when establishing medical policies in vulnerable areas in the future.

팀제가 팀 임파워먼트에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구;KBS 팀제를 중심으로 (The Empirical Study on the Effects of the Team Empowerment caused by the Team;Based Organizational Structure in KBS)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 팀제가 팀임파워먼트에 미치는 영향을 분석하는데 있다. KBS 팀제에서 구성원들을 임파워먼트 시키는데 걸림돌이 되는 여건이나 심리적 상태들을 파악하여 조직의 임파워먼트를 어떻게 실현할 것인가에 대한 시사점을 제시하는데 있다. 횡단적 연구를 위하여 국내외 문헌을 조사하고 KBS 내에서 회수한 설문결과와 개인면담, 그리고 관찰의견을 종합하여 검토하였다. 설문지는 460부를 SPSS 12.0 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 팀제에 대한 부정적인 응답자가 24.2%p가 즐어들었고 긍정적인 응답자는 1.29%p가 줄어들었다. 이는 부정적인 평가를 하던 구성원들이 긍정적인 평가자로 전환되어 팀제에 대한 이해가 확산된다는 측면에서 발전적이라 할 수 있으나, 문제점에 대한 지속적 해결노력이 필요하다는 것을 시사한다 하겠다. 둘째, 임파워먼트는 개인과 조직차원에서 생산성을 향상시키는 것으로 나타났다. 팀 임파워먼트를 높이기 위해서는 경영진이 변혁적 리더십을 발휘해야 하고, 낮게 나타난 경영진과 조직구성원 사이에 신뢰가 무엇보다 먼저 향상되어야 할 것이다. 셋째, 모든 본부와 직급에서 업무기피자에 대한 부담이 큰 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 전체 팀원에게 고른 업무분담이 되고 있지 못하다는 것을 뜻한다. 그리고 구성원들은 회사의 평가보상시스템을 깊게 신뢰하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 팀의 규모와 업무배정에 좀 더 세심한 배려가 필요하고 평가보상 체계에 사각지대가 생기지 않도록 현행 평가 제도를 보완하여야 할 것이다.

The Effect of Five-Star Franchise Hotel Chef's Empathy Leadership on Job Engagement and Team Cohesiveness

  • Purpose: The hotel industry needs a leader who can actively demonstrate leadership to respond to and accept changes in the organization in a highly competitive and fast-changing environment. Therefore, the role of leaders who instill clear vision and goals of the organization in their members, listen to their opinions, and empathize is paramount. Leaders should encourage successful organizational activities based on active participation by employees and create the best environment for working with a sense of mission and responsibility. This study aims to identify the relationship between empathy leadership and job engagement as a result variable of team cohesion in the hotel culinary department and conduct empirical studies on the role of empathy leadership and job engagement. Research design, data, and methodology: The data were collected from employees who work in culinary department at a five-star franchise hotel located in the Seoul metropolitan area. Because it is difficult to conduct a survey through face-to-face contact with employees due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the online survey was conducted from February 1 to February 28, 2020. A total of 330 questionnaires through online were distributed and 268 employees completed the survey, yielding a response rate of 81%. Of the 268 returned responses, 27 responses were not usable due to missing information. Thus, a total of 241 responses were used for analysis. Results: The study results are as follows. First, it has been shown that the empathy leadership of culinary department in hotel companies has a significant positive impact on the job engagement. Second, it has been shown that job engagement has a significant positive effect on members' team cohesiveness. Third, empathy leadership of hotel companies' culinary department has a significant positive impact on members' team cohesiveness. Fourth, job engagement has a significant positive (+) mediating effect in the relationship between empathy leadership and team cohesiveness in culinary department. Conclusion: This study supports the theory that an emotional and empathic leader's behavior or ability can change the effectiveness or atmosphere of a rapidly changing hotel culinary team organization by presenting a research model on the effect of empathic leadership on job engagement and team cohesiveness. And hotel chefs should be more aware of the importance of empathic leadership and make them a human resource of the organization through formal and informal communication with culinary employees.

철도 운행선로 작업자와 열차 접촉사고 위험도 평가에 관한 연구 (Risk Estimation Study on Railway Track Worker Hit by Train)

  • The accident fatality rate has decreased by more than 90% compared to 2006, due to the safety management and safety investment based on the Rail Safety Act. Most railway safety indicators, including fatality rates, have improved significantly from 60% to 80%, reaching the level of developed countries in terms of most railway safety indicators. However, the only staff fatality rate at work is not improved, and it is 3 to 5 times higher than that of developed countries. Most of the fatality occurred during employee's work recently occurred due to accidents hit by train while track work. In principle, when operating track need to check or maintenance, the operation of the train should be stopped and the work carried out. However, in Korea, due to the highest passenger density and train operating density in the world, it is caused by a structural problem that requires workers to enter the track while the train is running and perform various tasks such as maintenance and inspection. In this study, we analyzed the risk of accidents caused by hit by trains on the track, which is the biggest cause of staff fatality, using the main statistics of the last 10 years. In detail, the scenarios of the main causes of hit by trains and workers were formed to suggest the effectiveness of the current preventive measures and supplementary.

종업원의 업무능력을 고려한 종업원 만족도, 생산성 및 고객만족 간 인과관계 분석 (Analyzing the Casual Relationship among Employee Satisfaction, Productivity and Customer Satisfaction Considering Employee' Work Ability)

  • We analyze how much employees' work abilities and overall satisfaction on the job or corporate influence on the productivity and customer satisfaction in the service industry, which is characterized by simultaneity, heterogeneity, intangibility and etc. Employees always encounter customers in process of the service. So, the employees' attitudes and behaviors have direct influences on the service quality or satisfaction which customers perceive. Also, employees' satisfaction or work abilities can lead to increase or decrease the productivity. To grasp and demonstrate the cause and effect relationship, we firstly measure the degrees of employee satisfaction organized by 11 factors through survey, and also measure employees' overall satisfaction, organizational commitment and productivity. Secondly, we define service value as the employee's objective measure index and collect it with the data related to customer satisfaction. Based on the collected data, thirdly we define how the relationship among the employee satisfaction, the productivity, the service value and the customer satisfaction are affected by the employees' work abilities and overall satisfaction with SEM(Structural Equation Model). And finally, we classify employees according to their abilities and the degrees of satisfaction respectively and suggest important strategies to manage them effectively.

미국 간호사의 직업성 요통 (Nurse's Work Related Back Pain in the U. S.)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the current status of work-related back pain among nurses in the U.S. Method: Literature review and website searching were conducted. Key words as 'nurse and back pain (or back injury)' were used in searching the Medline, NIOSHTIC-2and reference list of selected studies. Total studies were selected of which subjects were nurses working in the U.S., and published since 1970. Results: Though there was variation in the measurement among studies, the prevalence rate of back pain among nurses in the U.S. could be estimated about 50%. Risk factors were confirmed as the frequency of patient lifting, ward, nursing shortage, overtime, work shift, stress on physical demand, but age and work experiences showed the inconsistent relation. It has been well known that educational approach is not enough to prevent back pain. Intervention studies to apply the ergonomic approach using mechanical devices reported the effects, but the devices were less diverse than European countries or Canada. The study for lifting team was rare. Federal government developed only the guideline for nursing home that had no legal obligation. As a professional nursing organization, ANA has been trying to educate and advocate for "No lift policy" since 2003. Meanwhile, two trade unions of nurses made efforts to establish the law strengthening the responsibility of health care facilities. Conclusion: The research and policy development will be needed to prepare to rapid increase of back pain among Korean nurses.

국내외 지침 비교를 통한 Grommet 작업 안전성 향상 방안 연구 (Improvement of Grommet Work Safety by Comparision of Domestic and Foreign Guidelines)

  • The number of deaths caused by power crane accidents continues to decline. Nevertheless, more than 50 people die each year due to these accidents. Various types of slings, such as wire rope sling, chain sling, belt sling, and grommet, are used in industries, depending on the characteristics of the work involved. To reduce the number of accidents involving these slings, the formulation of technical measures and education of workers are necessary. This study compares and analyzes local and international guidelines as well as those found in manufacturer manuals in relation to grommets, which are widely used in shipyards and construction sites. Moreover, measures for improving the safety of work using grommet are reviewed. This paper further proposes the revision of the technical guidelines of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency such that the information directly affecting the safety of work involving grommets is included. By clarifying the guidelines that manufacturers provide in their manuals, accident prevention through worker awareness is anticipated in the future.
