Development of Syllabuses for Biological Nursing Science Subjects based on Learning Outcomes: Structure and Function of Human Body, Pathogenic Microbiology, Pathophysiology, and Mechanisms and Effects of Drugs (학습성과를 기반으로 한 기초간호학 교과목의 강의계획서 개발: 인체 구조와 기능, 병원미생물학, 병태생리학, 약물의 기전과 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop syllabuses of basic nursing science subjects (Structure and Function of Human Body, Pathogenic Microbiology, Pathophysiology, and Mechanisms and Effects of Drug) based on learning outcomes. Methods: We developed a 3-phase plan to develop the syllabuses. In the first phase, The Korean Society of Biological Nursing Science (KSBNS) held a workshop in May, 2013 in which professors who are in charge of basic nursing science subjects shared opinions about learning outcomes. As a result, initial prototype syllabuses came out. In the second phase, revised syllabuses based on learning outcomes were presented and discussed in the conference held by KSBNS in November, 2013. In the last phase, a research team who taught basic nursing science subjects finalized the syllabuses during the meetings. Results: Syllabuses of 4 basic nursing science subjects were developed. Conclusion: These syllabuses of 4 subjects need to be disseminated throughout nursing colleges. Further revision needs to be made according to the circumstances and context of each school.

Prediction of Track Quality Index (TQI) Using Vehicle Acceleration Data based on Machine Learning (차량가속도데이터를 이용한 머신러닝 기반의 궤도품질지수(TQI) 예측)

  • There is an increasing tendency to try to make predictive analysis using measurement data based on machine learning techniques in the railway industries. In this paper, it was predicted that Track quality index (TQI) using vehicle acceleration data based on the machine learning method. The XGB (XGBoost) was the most accurate with 85% in the all data sets. Unlike the SVM model with a single algorithm, the RF and XGB model with a ensemble system were considered to be good at the prediction performance. In the case of the Surface TQI, it is shown that the acceleration of the z axis is highly related to the vertical direction and is in good agreement with the previous studies. Therefore, it is appropriate to apply the model with the ensemble algorithm to predict the track quality index using the vehicle vibration acceleration data because the accuracy may vary depending on the applied model in the machine learning methods.

  • This study examines the effectiveness of the study through a case of PBL (problem-based learning) class conducted in a balanced culture course called at 00 - University in the second semester of 2020. The effects we can achieve through learning are as follows: First, problem-based learning (PBL) has sufficient active interaction between the teacher and the learner. Second, PBL learning can actively utilize various problems that fit the characteristics of the subject and actively utilize the process of role sharing and collaboration. Third, critical perceptions of problem situations can be extended. The limitations identified in this class case are, first, the nature of the subject, "Understanding Culture and Philosophy," which makes it possible to discuss the global cultural phenomenon, but it should be discussed in terms of philosophy. Second, it is not easy to work as a team on non-face-to-face online.

A Case Study about the Effects of Online PBL on Students' 4C Competencies (온라인 PBL이 학습자의 4C 역량에 미치는 영향에 관한 사례 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of online problem-based learning (PBL) on learners' 4C competencies and learning experience. The results of the study showed that, first, online PBL had a statistically significant effect on learners' problem-solving skills, communication skills, and pre-service teacher efficacy. Second, learners were very satisfied with the online PBL experience and perceived it to be very beneficial to their learning and to themselves as preservice teachers. Third, learners perceived that the real-time video conferencing system and instant messenger were very helpful for successful online PBL. Fourth, regarding the important factors for successful online PBL, the participants in this study perceived that communication and sincerity are very important, and the role of the leader is also important, but personal intimacy among team members is relatively less important. Fifth, learners perceive that instructor feedback is very important for successful online PBL. Finally, the implications of this study are discussed along with suggestions for future research.

  • Most of the volunteering and community service had no direct link with classroom learning. Service-learning educational methodology that directly and intentionally integrates the classroom learning with service to the community. Research has found that this combination can improve the academic learning of the course material, give participants a deeper understanding of the social issues they address and provide valuable community services. And, service-learning has been offend environment to meet many of the KEC 2005 criteria that many be difficult to integrate into traditional engineering course. In studying, recognizing why service learning is a new attempt what is different form other learning experiences, we would like to search management strategies for service learning course and program development.

Analysis of Strategies for Quality Assurance in Online Education: The Implications of the Role of an Instructional Design Team to Support Faculty

  • This study investigates faculty support for quality assurance in online education, and offers suggestions for its improvement based on feedback from Instructional Design (ID) staff working at a public university in the U.S. Qualitative research using semi-structured interviews was conducted with seven ID staff in order to examine their perceptions regarding faculty support related to quality assurance in online education. The results of the data analysis indicate that four types of faculty support-quality assurance reviews using Quality Matter (QM) standards, templates, individual consultations with ongoing support, and monitoring-were offered for faculty. Faculty support for quality assurance in online education could be improved by developing specific quality assurance standards, recruiting external experts, examining learning effects, developing a quality assurance management system, and sharing documents among ID staff. This study highlights the necessity of quality assurance in online education and provides cases of faculty support in a real higher education setting.

  • Baseball attracts the largest audience among professional sports in Korea. In particular, attendance is the primary source of income in baseball. Previous studies have limitations in reflecting the characteristics of individual stadium. For instance, the KIA Tigers exhibit the highest away game revenue among domestic teams, but they show lower home game earnings. Therefore, we aim to predict the daily attendance at the Gwangju-KIA Champions Field of the KIA Tigers using deep learning. We collected and preprocessed daily attendance, dates, weather, and team-related variables for Gwangju-KIA Champions Field from 2018 to 2023. We propose a deep learning-based linear regression model to predict the daily attendance. We expect that the proposed deep learning model will be used as basic information to increase the club's revenue.

  • To enhance the effect of science educational contents, we developed a motion based training content: 3D space exploration. In this content, we used the 3D depth camera for user's motion recognition. Learners have to conduct the space station maintenance mission using the motion based natural and intuitive interface. The result this study is expected to propose the immersive training simulation for young science learners.

  • Purpose: The introduction of community-based medical education would help improve the quality of primary care. This paper suggests learning objectives and an educational program for community-based medical education. Methods: The educational program was developed in a 1-day consensus workshop. Twenty experts, including faculty members from family medicine department of a college of medicine in Seoul and community-based preceptors, participated in the program. A needs-assessment survey was conducted among community-based preceptors before the workshop. Through this workshop, we derived learning objectives and a standardized curriculum for community-based medical education. Results: In the questionnaire before the workshop, community-based preceptors voiced concerns over the program's potential costs and the time required for teaching. The learning objectives and educational programs derived from the workshop's consensus were consistent with the characteristics of the primary care. Based on the results of this workshop, the joint expert team developed a standard educational program on two core topics: clinical teaching and mentoring. Conclusion: From this curriculum development process, participants could construct a more standardized curriculum for community-based medical education. Future studies are needed to evaluate the long-term outcomes of these educational programs, such as the learners' satisfaction and achievement.

The Effects of team centralization on shared mental model, satisfaction, and achievement in a web-based collaborative learning (웹기반 협력학습에서 상호작용의 중심화 정도가 팀원의 공유정신모형, 만족도, 성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of centralization on shared mental model, satisfaction and achievement in a web-based collaborative learning. Sixty-eight undergraduate students were randomly assigned to 7 groups and they participated in a 4-week web-based collaborative learning. Three highly centralized teams and three less centralized teams were selected, and analyzed for investigating whether there are meaningful differences in shared mental model, satisfaction and achievement according to the degree of centralization. The results showed that there was no significant difference in shared mental model between the highly and less centralized teams. However, the highly centralized teams showed higher level of satisfaction and achievement than the less centralized teams.
