  • There haw been some courses related to science education for the graduate students, but almost the study for no instructional model and reading material development haw been pursunded in Korea. This study intended to discuss the discipline character of science education research for the systematic survey of concepts, principles and theories related to science education as the first put task, and designed an instructional model of the introductory survey course of science education at graduate level, and then proposed a developmental plan of a reading material for the course teaching aid. The main work of the study was to survey the foreign literature, but the subjective analysis of researcher's courses work during graduate study in abroard and some courses offered to undergraduate and graduate students in Korea by this researcher was quite helpful, even though which was not a strictly designed experimental research. Later it was found that this kind of study was not fitted to the traditional research style but worth while to try for the research in and teaching of "science education" as an area of discipline and professional activity.

  • This paper is about to research the contents of writing course to foster communication skills for engineering students. Some domestic college writing textbooks were analyzed to list the course contents. Studying 'technical writing' leads to identify the materials for both basic composition skills and technical writing skills. Then some reasons for selecting those materials and things about professors for the course as well as teaching the course are discussed. Developing proper textbook and the techniques for teaching those materials is a valuable task for the writing course.

  • This research studied learning model for the purpose of renovation of mathematics teaching methods. Especially, this research classified the types of cooperative learning, the theoretical background for cooperative learning, the need of cooperative learning in school mathematics, and the differences between cooperative learning and traditional small group learning, This research also suggested special features of cooperative learning and various types of cooperative learning models. The main types of cooperative learning which this research supported are TAI(Team-Assisted Individualization, JIGSAW cooperative learning, JIGSAW II cooperative learning, JIGSAW III cooperative learning, STAD(Student Team-Achievement division) cooperative learning, and TGT(Teams-Games-Tournament).

  • This research used Q-Methodology to investigate kindergarten teachers' perception style regarding children's creativity. The 30 participants had various teaching experiences and educational backgrounds and were teaching in a variety of types of kindergartens in the cities of Busan and Ulsan. Individual teacher's subjective perspective was the main target for the analysis. Results showed four types of teachers' perceptions of creativity : 1) perceiving creativity as children's creative thinking ability, 2) focusing on creative curriculum development 3) perceiving creativity as children's creative personality, and 4) focusing on either teacher's thorough understanding of children's creativity or teachers' creativity. These results indicate that teachers tend to perceive creativity in narrow and specific domains. These findings are discussed with respect to their educational implications.

  • In the nineteenth century was Augustus De Morgan, British mathematician, a great mathematics teacher. Although his name is well known to everybody who is interested in set theory, his major mathematical legacy would arise from his novel research in logic. In this article, we first investigate De Morgan's life briefly; we then consider his precious philosophy of mathematics education based on his students' remarks and his works. Finally, by considering his teaching style, we highlight some of the ingredients that go into making a great mathematics teacher.

  • Recently, the importance of participating in classes activity and cultivating student's thinking ability is emphasized in the mathematics education society. Teachers are demanded to change their teaching style centered pencile-and paper into using the variety instructional aids, such as calculator, video tape, computer, ohp, and projector, etc. In this paper, we search for the mathematica's function and the method that apply mathematical to the secondary school mathematics. Mathematical has many functions: calculator, algebra, graphics, animations, programing, notebook. We find that mathematica can be applied to the graph of function, the understand of simultaneous equations, the graph of trigonometry function, the calculation of limit, the computation of areas as limits, the derivative of a function and tangent line, a solid figure, and others in secondary school mathematics.

  • The writing styles of TIME and Newsweek are analyzed using a specially developed linguistic program. These two news magazines were chosen because of their wide popularity. As for the results, it became obvious that both the frequency curve of words and that of characters have not changed for the past 60 years. Also, we have found that the frequency curves have some inflection points and that the genre of English writings can be identified by these points. After counting the percentage of required vocabulary for junior high school students and high school students in English writings, we can derive the relative difficulties of them using fuzzy reasoning. Fuzzy rules are constructed using features of the characteristic curves. We feel it would be a good guide index when selecting textbooks or supplementary readers.

  • Based on the survey of 4 universities in Tai' an by questionnaire survey and interviews, this study acquired and analyzed the college student users' activity type, utilization frequency, retention time, companion, preference for landscape design style, the importance of the courtyard space's environment and landscape, as well as correlations between primary attributes and activity characteristics of student users. The weight of the university teaching area's courtyard space evaluation index was obtained by Analytical Hierarchy Process. The results indicated that nearly 60% college students select to study and to rest alone as the main activity type, 80% students' utilization frequency is at least two times or more a week. In addition, the relative weight of plant landscape is the highest in the 2nd class indexes of space garden landscape, and its value is 0.113; the relative weight of cleanliness is the highest in the 3rd class indexes of space environment quality, and its value is 0.143. Therefore, it should be attached much importance to constructing the environment and landscape for studying and relaxing, and the factors of cleanliness and plant landscape etc in the further design of courtyard space are taken into full consideration.

  • The purpose of the present study is to compare Korean EFL learners' speech corpus (i.e. oral productions) with their composition corpus (i.e. written productions). Four college students participated in the study. The composition corpus was collected through a writing assignment, and the speech corpus was gathered by audio-taping their oral presentations. The results of the data analysis indicate that (i) As for error frequency, young adult low-intermediate Korean EFL learners showed high frequency in determiners (mostly, indefinite articles), vocabulary (mostly, semantic errors), and prepositions. The frequency order did not show much difference between the speech corpus and the composition corpus; and (ii) When comparing the oral productions with the written productions, there were not many differences between them in terms of the contents, a style (i.e., colloquial vs. literary), vocabulary selection, and error types and frequency. Therefore, it is assumed that the proficiency in oral presentation of EFL learners at this learning stage heavily depends on how much/how well they are able to write. In other words, EFL learners' writing and speaking skills are closely co-related. It implies that the teacher does not need to separate teaching how to speak from teaching how to write. The teacher may use the same methods or strategies to help the learners improve their English speaking and writing skills. Furthermore, it will be more effective to teach writing before speaking since they have more opportunities to write than speak in the EFL contexts.

  • Student success in higher education is largely determined by experiences during the freshman year. We believe freshman succeed when they make progress toward fulfilling their educational and personal goals: 1) developing academic and intellectual competence; 2) establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships; 3) deciding on a career and life-style; 4) maintaining personal health and wellness; and 5) developing an integrated philosophy of life. The study analyzed the factors which influence the students' academic and personal life in the process of education. And is also provided a suggestion to propose directions for the effectiveness of the freshman education
