The data was collected from 300 students in five elementary schools in I city. After the exclusion of 22 incomplete questionnaires, a total of 278 questionnaires were used for data analysis. For the data analysis, descriptive analysis, exploratory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were employed. The correlation analysis revealed that every subset of variables of the study was positively inter-correlated. Multiple regression analysis showed that mental fluidity playfulness positively influenced every subset of school happiness variables. Physical animation playfulness positively influenced self-respect school happiness, optimism school happiness, and overall school happiness. Mental spontaneity positively influenced teacher relationship school happiness and overall school happiness. Physical education class attitudes positively influenced every subset of school happiness variables, and based on standardized regression coefficients, physical education class attitudes influenced school happiness variables more so than did playfulness. The findings indicate that physical education class attitudes and playfulness are important contributors for improving Korean elementary students' school happiness, and it is necessary to cultivate physical education class attitudes and playfulness in Korean elementary schoolers.

  • This study seeks to verify the effect size of the variables relating to job satisfaction through a meta-analysis focusing on previous papers over the last 20 years that have examined the job satisfaction of kindergarten teachers and verified the trend by publication year through a meta-regression analysis. The study results are as follows. First, the results demonstrated that the total effect size of the variables relating to kindergarten teachers was large. Second, the organization's internal variable and organization's external variable groups, except for the individual characteristics variable group, showed a large effect size at similar levels. Third, the status of teachers in the individual characteristics variable group showed a meaningfully large effect size and the interpersonal relationship variable in organization's internal variable group showed a relatively larger effect size than the organizational climate variable did. Finally, the results of the verification of the trend by publication year showed that job satisfaction increased for all variables, except for the individual characteristics variable in more recent publications. This study highlights the imperative of making every effort to improve the organization's internal and external environment. In particular, measures to reduce job stress and work load are required. Furthermore, the atmosphere that is devoted to the teaching profession and teacher efficacy is important.

  • This study aimed to identify the difficulties that new science teachers in secondary schools experience. Subjects for this study were 190 science teachers attending qualifying training for 1st degree of teaching certificate. Using an open questionnaire, the difficulties these teachers encounter were collected, categorized, and compared between their first year and their succeeding years of teaching in terms of their school level, gender, majors and regions. Results showed that first year science teachers have had difficulties in areas including subject teaching, guidance, administrative affairs, human relationship and self-understanding. On their succeeding years, difficulties about subject teaching were reduced to half while other difficulties remained. New teachers in middle schools have experienced the most number of difficulties about guidance, while new teachers in general high schools have experienced the most number of difficulties about subject teaching. Based on these findings, some recommendations were proposed for new science teachers in secondary schools, school administrators, and training institutions.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the mathematical beliefs of students and teachers by Latent Class Analysis(LCA). This study surveyed 60 teachers about beliefs of 'nature of mathematics', 'mathematic teaching', 'mathematical ability' and also asked 1850 students about beliefs of 'school mathematics', 'mathematic problem solving', 'mathematic learning' and 'mathematical self-concept'. Also, this study classified each student and teacher into a class that are in a similar response, analyzed the belief systems and built a profile of the classes. As a result, teachers were classified into three types of belief classes about 'nature of mathematics' and two types of belief classes about 'teaching mathematics' and 'mathematical ability' respectively. Also, students were classfied into three types of belief classes about 'self concept' and two types of classes about 'School Mathematics', 'Mathematics Problem Solving' and 'Mathematics Learning' respectively. This study classified the mathematics belief systems in which students were categorized into 9 categories and teachers into 7 categories by LCA. The belief categories analyzed through these inductive observations were found to have statistical validity. The latent class analysis(LCA) used in this study is a new way of inductively categorizing the mathematical beliefs of teachers and students. The belief analysis method(LCA) used in this study may be the basis for statistically analyzing the relationship between teachers' and students' beliefs.

This study aimed to investigated self-esteem in relation to teaching aptitude in pre-service early childhood teachers. Pre-service early childhood teachers' self-esteem scale and teaching aptitude scale assessed the self-esteem and teaching aptitude of 344 pre-service early childhood teachers in C-city in Gangwon-do and N-city in Kyunggi-do, Korea. Results showed that all four dimensions of the self-esteem were significantly related to teaching aptitude, indicating that pre-service early childhood teachers with higher self-esteem were likely to have greater teaching aptitude. Regression analysis indicated that self-esteem in the areas of leadership and popularity, self-assertiveness, and social-relations significantly predicted teaching aptitude of pre-service early childhood teachers.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of peer mentor on academic achievement of mentee and views on nature of science. The experimental group was consisted of 20 mentor students, formed as a high level being less than 20% of achievement test, and 20 mentee, low level less than 15% of that. The mentoring activities were conducted 23 times for 8 weeks and progressed for 15~30 minutes after the teacher's main classes. During the mentoring activity, studying materials were provided to students and mentees asked to mentors for the parts which were difficult to understand among the contents of classes and got replies by arranging studying materials. As the results of this study, First, peer mentoring activity was shown statistically meaningful effects and improved the academic achievement in mentee's group than traditional classes (p<.01). But, there was no meaningful effects on mentor's achievement (p>.05). Second, the students who took part in the peer mentoring activity said that it was a good chance to have a close relationship between mentors and mentees. Also, the science recognition of the students were changed positively even though the science is hard and difficult to memorize, but interesting subject included the experiments. Third, the satisfaction of the peer mentoring activity is high both mentors and mentees (p<.01). Fourth, according to mentees' positive attitude, and as the level of closeness is higher, the academic achievement was increased. Based on this study, if teachers organize mentoring team effectively according to their closeness, one can expect the positive change of recognition on science as well as academic achievement of mentees.

  • This study was a comparative analysis by youth's internet addiction types. Distribution of internet addiction types, relative influence of risk and protective factors in each addiction type, and common and different risk and protective factors among the internet addiction types were investigated. And, the level of youth's mental health and the effect of internet to youth's mental health were identified. A total of 1,830 youth were surveyed, and the findings were as below: Firstly, 62.3% of the surveyed youth were addicted to internet. In detail, 15.9% had internet game addiction and 10.9% had internet sex addiction. Secondly, in all types of internet addiction, the risk factors gave severer influence than the protective factors did, and the protective factors gave compensation effect to each type of addiction. Thirdly, among the internet addiction types, the common risk factors were depression, aggression, parents' control, and friends' influence, while the protective factor was self control. Among the internet addiction types, a different risk factor was PC access, and the different protective factors included self-efficacy, teacher's support, friend's support, and parents' relationship. Fourthly, in all the three addiction pattern, the addicted adolescents had experienced more psychological symptoms than general internet users had. Finally, in the aspects of psychiatric symptoms, sex addiction gave the worst negative effect, and then game addiction, and internet addiction came in order.
