Self Role Perception of Health Teachers in Elementary Schools (초등학교 보건교사의 자기 역할 인식)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe and understand elementary school health teachers' role perception in their own perspectives. Methods: Data were collected from three focus groups composed of five participants for each group. Each focus group had an interview for two and a half hours on the average. The main question was "What is your perception on the roles of health teachers in elementary schools?" Qualitative data from transcribed notes and field notes were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: Five main roles were identified from the participants. The participants perceived themselves as 'an expert of health education in school and community', 'a health service provider for school members', 'a health guardian for school members, the coordinator of healthcare related works in school, and the leader of school health. Conclusion: The participants have multiple role identities, which are very important for health management of school members. And the roles such as an expert of health education and a leader for school health are recently emphasized. The findings of this study can provide useful information to design orientation programs for newly appointed health teachers and continuing education programs for enhancing role performance of health teachers in elementary schools.

Investigation into Korean School Milk Program Management and Dietitians' Perception of School Milk Program Improvement (우리나라 학교우유급식 관리현황 및 영양사들의 인식 조사)

  • This study was aimed to investigate management conditions and dietitians' perception for improvement of school milk programs. Using an online sampling method, collected data from 1,723 dietitians nationwide were analyzed. The results show that 44.4% of respondents carried out the cyclic school milk program, providing various types of dairy products either weekly or monthly. Further, 80.3% of respondents answered that preference survey results were a determining factor in their choice of school milk provider, and 55.9% said that a school steering committee made the decision on relevant facts of the school milk program. For diversification of school milk type, 60.5% of respondents wanted to maintain the current system, and 39.5% answered that milk type needed to be diversified. The respondents preferred fermented milk products, functional milk, and processed milk, in order, if school milk type is diversified. To improve perception and knowledge about milk, 66.0% of respondents thought that nutrition education by a nutrition teacher would be the most effective, and parent's letters or a nutrition newsletter would be helpful. More than half of respondents (55.0%) disagreed with a merged program for school foodservice and milk.

The Influence of Urban Stream Investigation on Students' Environmental Conservation Awareness (환경보전의식에 대한 도시하천 조사 활동의 학습 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the influence of the urban stream investigation on elementary school students' environmental conservation awareness. The urban stream investigation was applied to the experimental group and the control group has been taught by the traditional teaching method focused on the teacher's lecture. To analyze the effect of urban stream investigation, the pre- and post-tests on environmental conservation awareness composed of interest in living things, perception about water pollution and environmental conservation were applied to the both groups. The results were analyzed by One-way ANOVA and ANCOVA. As a result, there were not significant difference between the experimental and the control group in the pretest(p>.05). In the post-tests on the student's interest in living things, perception about water pollution and environmental conservation the scores of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group(p<0.05). Therefore, the urban stream investigation made a positive effect on improving of elementary school students' environmental conservation awareness.

A Study on Daycare Teachers' Perceptions of Multicultural Families (보육교사의 다문화 가정 인식에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of daycare teachers' demographic variables and multicultural variables upon their perception of multicultural families. Daycare teachers' multicultural variables consist of their multicultural family-related education, their perception of single-races and multi-races persons, their acceptance of familial diversity, their cultural capability and the efficacy of multicultural teaching. In conclusion, the study findings show that the multicultural variables seem to have an influence upon teachers' perception of multicultural families. Since the teachers' perception of the multicultural family is important for the shaping of relations between teachers and children from multicultural families and between teachers and females of transnational marriage, the importance of teachers' perceptions of multicultural related variables must be recognized. Therefore, it seems to be necessary to help children from multicultural families improve their adaptability to daycare facilities and for females of transnational marriage to form mutual, cooperative relations with teachers.

The Factors Influencing on Disaster Nursing Competency of School Health Teachers (보건교사의 재난간호역량에 미치는 영향요인)

  • Objectives: This study aims to identify influencing factors of disaster nursing competency among school health teachers. Methods: Data were collected from 110 school health teachers at the offfice of education in G province using a convenience sampling method. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: There was a significant difference in disaster nursing competency according to the general characteristics of the subjects in terms of clinical nurse work experience (t=3.40, p=.001) and disaster education experience (t=2.80, p=.006). Disaster perception and disaster nursing competency showed a significant positive correlation (r=.43, p<.001). In final analysis, disaster perception (𝛽=.35, p<.001), career as a nurse (𝛽=.23, p=.009), experience in disaster education (𝛽=.17, p=.048) was found to have a significant effect on disaster nursing competency. Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, disaster perception should be raised to improve the disaster nursing competency of school health teachers. Speicalized disaster nursing & health education based on their experience before appointing school health teachers and disaster response simulation training tailored to school field conditions should be regularly conducted.

A Study on Teacher Librarian's Perception and Needs on Implement of High School Credit System (고교학점제 시행에 대한 사서교사의 인식과 요구에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the perceptions, demands, operation problems of teacher librarians for the implementation of the high school credit system. 153 teacher librarians working in high schools participated in the online survey, and statistical analysis was conducted Teacher librarians had a high understanding of the high school credit system, and the demand for elective courses management was high. In particular, teacher librarians working at research schools had a higher understanding of the high school credit system and the operating foundation than those in general schools. Lack of awareness of the educational role of students and teachers toward teacher librarians was recognized as the biggest problem in the elective course management and there was no difference according to the background variables of the teacher librarian as gender, region, experience. On the basis of this result, it is suggested and discussed that developing high school credit system training program for teacher librarians, opening of elective courses related to reading, media, and information literacy skills and developing textbook, and instituting mandatory completion courses related to reading, media, and information literacy skills in pre-teacher training course.

Teacher Perception of Science Competency and Science PCK for Competency-Based Science Education in the Future Society (미래사회 과학 역량에 대한 교사 인식과 역량기반 과학교육을 위한 교사 전문성 탐색)

  • In this study, focusing on science education in the future society, we explored students' key competencies to be cultivated for the future society, and the role and PCK expertise necessary for science teachers, who are the main agents of competency-based education to nurture these key competencies. A survey conducted among earth science teachers across the country results in 105 valid responses being obtained. The research results are discussed in terms of students' key competencies to be nurtured for the future society, the role and the expertise of science teachers required for competency-based education, and the structural relationship between the teacher role and teacher expertise. We also conducted network analysis to examine the relationship between student competency and teacher expertise, and the structure between the teacher's role and expertise. Main results include that communication and collaboration skills are the most important for students in the future society as core competencies. For science teachers, providing opportunities for collaboration-oriented activities are deemed as the most important. Regarding the structural relationship between the teacher's role and the teacher's expertise, there is a clear relationship with roles such as providing opportunities for collaboration-oriented activities and utilizing various materials and contents in relation to the expertise related to the science teaching practice. Based on the results, ways to promote student's agency based on raising teachers' awareness of the student's competencies, the inter-relatedness of the teacher's role and the teacher's expertise, and the totality of teachers' expertise were suggested.

The Effects of 'Solar System and Star' Using Storytelling Skill on Science Learning Motivation and Space Perception Ability (스토리텔링 기법을 적용한 '태양계와 별' 수업이 과학학습동기와 공간지각능력에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of storytelling skill on science learning motivation and space perception ability. For this study the 5 grade, 2 class was divided into a research group and a comparative group. The class was pre-tested in order to ensure the same standard. The research group had the science class with storytelling skill, and the comparative group had the class with teacher centered lectures for 10 classes in 10 weeks. The storytelling skill was focused on finding stories, constellation searching, story deciding, story hero deciding, story composition, storytelling completion. To prove the effects of this study, science learning motivation was split up according to attention power, relation, confidence, and sense of satisfaction. Also, space perception ability consisted of two-dimensional rotation, 3 dimension rotations, reflection, three-dimensional searching, number of block, and figure type in pattern. The results of this study are as follows. First, using storytelling skill was effective in science learning motivation. Second, using storytelling skill was effective in space perception ability. Also, after using storytelling skill was good reaction by students. As a result, the elementary science class with storytelling skill had the effects of developing science learning motivation and space perception ability. it means the science class with storytelling skill has potential possibilities and value to develop science learning motivation and space perception ability.

The effects of Academic Self-efficacy and Resilience on Perception of Professionalism with Pre-service Early Childhood Teachers (예비유아교사의 학업적 자기효능감과 회복 탄력성이 교직 전문성 인식에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the effects of academic self-efficacy and resilience on perception of professionalism. The survey questionnaire was completed by 313 pre-service early childhood teachers. SPSS Win program was used to perform MANOVA and Multiple Regression Analysis. (1)The self-regulatory efficacy was significantly different according to grade and experience of child care practice. (2)The control and sociality, positivity were significantly different according to grade and experience of child care practice. (3)The perception of professionalism was significantly different according to grade and experience of child care practice. (4)The self-regulatory efficacy and the difficulty preference affected perception of professionalism. (5)The positivity and control affected perception of professionalism. This study indicated that it is necessary to make efforts for increasing perception of professionalism in pre-service early childhood teachers.

The Effects of Pre-service Early Childhood Teachers' Personality on Their Perception of Children's Rights (예비유아교사의 인성이 유아권리인식에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the pre-service early childhood teachers' personality on their children's rights perception. The subjects of this study were 253 early childhood education majors in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. The statistical analysis of this study was analyzed using the SPSS V.22.0 program. The result of the study is summarized as follows. First, the result of the current study reveals that personality and perception of children's rights are correlated. Also, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between personality and perception of children's rights. Second, it was found that the 'social relationship' sub-factor in personality affected the pre-service early childhood teachers' perception of children's rights. Therefore, it is necessary to promote personal development in order to enhance pre-service early childhood teachers' perception of children's rights.
