Three experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of taurine (Tau) supplements on broiler growth performance, serum constituents and antibody production. In Exp. 1, 3 day old chicks received a basal diet supplemented with Tau at 0, 0.10, 0.20, 0.30 or 0.40% for 6 weeks. Although dietary Tau supplementing at 0.30 or 0.40% enhanced feed conversion and reduced feed consumption during 0 to 3 weeks (p<0.05), neither serum total cholesterol or anti-Newcastle disease virus (NDV) titer were affected. In Exp. 2, dietary Tau supplement at 0.25-0.75% enhanced feed conversion of broilers during 0 to 3 weeks, but daily gain and feed consumption were not affected. The 0.75% Tau supplement group displayed lower serum total cholesterol at 6 weeks (p<0.05) comparing with the control group but no difference in anti-NDV titers. In Exp. 3, broilers were treated with dietary Tau of 0 or 0.50% combined with low (0/0%), medium (0.18/0.08%), or high (0.36/0.16%) methionine (Met) levels for 6 weeks (0 to 3/3 to 6 weeks). The addition of Met significantly improved daily gain and feed conversion of broilers during 0 to 3 weeks (p<0.01). Dietary Tau interacted significantly with Met on daily gain and feed consumption. Broiler serum amino acids revealed that Met supplements only increased serum Met level, but only serum Tau level was enhanced as given dietary Tau supplementation. The broilers receiving Tau normalized serum triglycerides level by feeding with the low Met diet and tended to display higher anti-NDV titers (p<0.10). The experimental results suggest that the growth response obtained by Tau supplements results partly from interactions with sulfur amino acids. However, the modulation of the broiler lipid metabolism may be responsible for dietary Tau.

For cryptographic systems, nonlinearity is crucial since most linear systems are easily decipherable. C.Bracken, Z.Zhaetc., propose the APN(Almost Perfect Nonlinear) functions with the properties similar to those of the bent functions with perfect nonlinearity. We design two kinds of new code sequence generating algorithms using the above APN functions. And we find that the out of phase ${\tau}\;{\neq}\;0$, autocorrelation functions, $R_{ii}(\tau)$ and the crosscorrelation functions, $R_{ik}(\tau)$ of the binary code sequences generated by two new algorithms over GF(2), have three values of {-1, $-1-2^{n/2}$, $-1+2^{n/2}$}. We also find that the out of phase ${\tau}\;{\neq}\;0$, autocorrelation functions, $R_{p,ii}(\tau)$ and the crosscorrelation functions, $R_{p,ik}(\tau)$ of the nonbinary code sequences generated by the modified algorithms over GF(p), $p\;{\geq}\;3$, have also three values of {$-1+p^{n-1}$, $-1-p^{(n-1)/2}+p^{n-1}$, $-1+p^{(n-1)/2}p^{n-1}$}. We show that these code sequences have the characteristics of the correlation functions similar to those of Gold code sequences.

The expansion behavior of polystyrene (PS) chains with various molecular weights has been investigated above Flory $\Theta$temperature by viscometry after dissolving in the three different mixed solvents systems such as benzene/n-heptane, 1,4-dioxane/isopropanol, and 1,4-dioxane/n-heptane. Two different regimes are observed as increasing temperature: one regime is for the expansion of chain and the other is for the contraction. For the higher molecular weight sample of PS, the higher peak temperature showing its maximum expansion is obtained. Within a certain system of Ps/mixed solvents, the $\tau/\tau_c$ parameter shows universality for the variation of molecular weight. But while each system of Ps/mixed solvents has shown its own different slope, the universality breaks down in the overall system of mixed solvents. However after introducing a new empirical $b^{2/3}\tau/\tau_c$ parameter, all data points of three different systems have dropt on one master curve and the universality of chain expansion has recovered again. Here $\tau$ and $\tau_c$ are defined as $(T-\Theta)/\Theta$ and $(\Theta-T_c)/T_c$, respectively and $T_c$ is the critical solution temperature, and b of Schultz-Flory equation is corresponding to the effective slope in the plot of $1/T_c$ against $1/M_w^{1/2}$.

Glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) is an important serine/threonine kinase that implicates in multiple cellular processes and links with the neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease (AD). In this study, structure-based virtual screening was performed to search database for compounds targeting GSK-3β from Enamine's screening collection. Of the top-ranked compounds, 7 primary hits underwent a luminescent kinase assay and a cell assay using human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells expressing Tau repeat domain (Tau_RD) with pro-aggregant mutation ΔK280. In the kinase assay for these 7 compounds, residual GSK-3β activities ranged from 36.1% to 90.0% were detected at the IC₅₀ of SB-216763. In the cell assay, only compounds VB-030 and VB-037 reduced Tau aggregation in SH-SY5Y cells expressing ΔK280 Tau_RD-DsRed folding reporter. In SH-SY5Y cells expressing ΔK280 Tau_RD, neither VB-030 nor VB-037 increased expression of GSK-3α Ser21 or GSK-3β Ser9. Among extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), AKT serine/threonine kinase 1 (AKT), mitogen-activated protein kinase 14 (P38) and mitogenactivated protein kinase 8 (JNK) which modulate Tau phosphorylation, VB-037 attenuated active phosphorylation of P38 Thr180/ Tyr182, whereas VB-030 had no effect on the phosphorylation status of ERK, AKT, P38 or JNK. However, both VB-030 and VB-037 reduced endogenous Tau phosphorylation at Ser202, Thr231, Ser396 and Ser404 in neuronally differentiated SH-SY5Y expressing ΔK280 Tau_RD. In addition, VB-030 and VB-037 further improved neuronal survival and/or neurite length and branch in mouse hippocampal primary culture under Tau cytotoxicity. Overall, through inhibiting GSK-3β kinase activity and/or p-P38 (Thr180/Tyr182), both compounds may serve as promising candidates to reduce Tau aggregation/cytotoxicity for AD treatment.

Let $\Omega$ be a domain with smooth boundary in ${\mathbb{C}}^{n+1}$ and let $p{\in}{\partial}{\Omega}$. Suppose that $\Omega$ is Kobayashi hyperbolic and p is of Catlin multi-type ${\tau}=({\tau}_0,{\ldots},{\tau}_n)$. In this paper, we show that $\Omega$ admits a $C^{k}$ contraction at p with $k{\geq}\mid{\tau}\mid+1$ if and only if $\Omega$ is biholomorphically equivalent to a domain defined by a weighted homogeneous polynomial.

Topology may described a pattern of existence of elements of a given set X. The family ${\tau}(X)$ of all topologies given on a set X form a complete lattice. We will give some topologies on this lattice ${\tau}(X)$ using a topology on X and regard ${\tau}(X)$ a topological space. Our purpose of this study is to give new topologies on the family ${\tau}(X)$ of all topologies induced by old one and its ${\theta}$ topology and to compare them.

In this paper, we consider properties of Dedekind eta-function, modular discrimiant, thata-series and Weierstrass ${\wp}$-function. We prove the integrablities of ${\Delta}({\tau})$ and ${\eta}({\tau})$. Also, we give explicit formulae about ${\Delta}({\tau})$ and ${\tau}(n)$.
