  • Eggs of Korean rose bitterling Rhodeus uyekii were collected and fertilized to observe temperature-related cleavage rates and mitotic intervals (${\tau}_0$). As the water temperature was increased, the slope of first cleavage frequency with elapsed time after fertilization increased, and approximately 30% of fertilized eggs reached first cleavage frequency at every 15 min. At higher temperatures, eggs developed faster and underwent further identical developmental processes. There were strong, negative correlations between ${\tau}_0$ and water temperatures at all temperatures studied (Y = -1.225X + 70.05, $r^2=0.988$, where Y is ${\tau}_0$ and X is temperature).

  • Black plaice, Pleuronectes obscurus (Herzenstein), were collected and fertilized to observe egg development, temperature-related cleavage rates, and mitotic intervals (${\tau}_0$). Fertilized egg was demersal, adhesive, and did not contain oil globules. After 1.75 h, the blastodisc formed, and hatching took place 121 h after fertilization at $14^{\circ}C$. The hatched larvae were $3.5{\pm}0.16\;mm$ in total length. At higher temperatures, eggs developed faster and underwent further identical developmental processes. Additionally, ${\tau}_0$ and water temperature were strongly negatively correlated at all temperatures (Y=-2.6981X+98.767, $R^2$=0.9831, where Y is ${\tau}_0$, and X is temperature) for black plaice.

  • Let X be a nonempty set and $\mathcal{F}$(X) be the set of nonempty finite subsets of X. The paper deals with the extended metrics ${\tau}:\mathcal{F}(X){\rightarrow}\mathbb{R}$ recently introduced by Peter Balk. Balk's metrics and their restriction to the family of sets A with ${\mid}A{\mid}{\leqslant}n$ make possible to consider "distance functions" with n variables and related them quantities. In particular, we study such type generalized diameters $diam_{{\tau}^n}$ and find conditions under which $B{\mapsto}diam_{{\tau}^n}B$ is a Balk's metric. We prove the necessary and sufficient conditions under which the restriction ${\tau}$ to the set of $A{\in}\mathcal{F}(X)$ with ${\mid}A{\mid}{\leqslant}3$ is a symmetric G-metric. An infinitesimal analog for extended by Balk metrics is constructed.

  • Suppose that Hand K are paired Hopf algebras and that A is an H - K - bicomodule algebra with multiplication which is a left H-comodule map and is a right K-comodule map. We define a new twisted algebra, $A^{\tau}$ and define $M^{\tau}$ for $M{\in}M_A^K$. We find an equivalent condition for $M^{\tau}{\in}M_{A^{\tau}}^K$. We show that the above defined twisted multiplication is the special case of Beattie's twist multiplication. We show that if K is commutative, then A is an H-module algebra and show that if $H^*$ is cocommutative then the construction of smash product appears as a special case of the new twist product.

  • This paper gives a computer code that gives p-value's for Kendall's Tau table. The code centers around finding the cumulative frequency of a given Sigma value. Current tables usually give critical values for given cut-off percentages. For small sample sizes the critical values may be inexact, and for large samples the values are not be published. SPSS has a built in function for finding the Kendall rank correlation, but the output does not include the Sigma value. Before the code is given, this paper will concentrate around how to find the Sigma value, and the related tau statistic. The computer code is written in MATLAB, but the ideas can be easily transferred to different languages.

  • The purpose of this paper is to establish some sufficient conditions for oscillation of solutions of the second-order functional dynamic equation of Emden-Fowler type $\[a(t)x^{\Delta}(t)\]^{\Delta}+p(t)|x^{\gamma}(\tau(t))|\|x^{\Delta}(t)\|^{1-\gamma}$ $sgnx(\tau(t))=0$, $t\;{\geq}\;t_0$, on a time scale $\mathbb{T}$, where ${\gamma}\;{\in}\;(0,\;1]$, a, p and $\tau$ are positive rd-continuous functions defined on $\mathbb{T}$, and $lim_{t{\rightarrow}{\infty}}\;{\tau}(t)\;=\;\infty$. Our results include some previously obtained results for differential equations when $\mathbb{T}=\mathbb{R}$. When $\mathbb{T}=\mathbb{N}$ and $\mathbb{T}=q^{\mathbb{N}_0}=\{q^t\;:\;t\;{\in}\;\mathbb{N}_0\}$ where q > 1, the results are essentially new for difference and q-difference equations and can be applied on different types of time scales. Some examples are worked out to demonstrate the main results.

  • In this paper we study the oscillation criteria for the second order nonlinear differential equation with delay and advanced arguments of the form $$([x(t)+a(t)x(t-{\sigma}_1)+b(t)x(t+{\sigma}_2)]^{\alpha})^{{\prime}{\prime}}+q(t)x^{\beta}(t-{\tau}_1)+q(t)x^{\gamma}(t+{\tau}_2)=0,\;t{\geq}t_0$$ where ${\sigma}_1$, ${\sigma}_2$, ${\tau}_1$ and ${\tau}_2$ are nonnegative constants and ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ and ${\gamma}$ are the ratios of odd positive integers. Examples are provided to illustrate the main results.

  • Explicit sufficient conditions are established for the oscillation of the one order neutral differential equations with impulsive $(x(t)+{\sum\limits^n_{i=1}}c_ix(t-{\sigma}_i))'+px(t-{\tau})=0$, $t{\neq}t_{\kappa}$, ${\Delta}(x(t_{\kappa})+{\sum\limits^n_{i=1}}c_ix(t_{\kappa}-{\sigma}_i))+p_0x(t_{\kappa}-{\tau})=0$, $c_i{\geq}0$, $i=1,2,{\ldots}n$, $p{\tau}$>0, $p_0{\tau}$>0, ${\Delta}(x_{\kappa})=x(t^+_{\kappa})-x(t_{\kappa})$. Explicit sufficient and necessary condition are established when $c_i$ = 0, i = 1, 2, ${\ldots}$, n.
