Enhancing Service Availability in Multi-Access Edge Computing with Deep Q-Learning

  • The Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) paradigm equips network edge telecommunication infrastructure with cloud computing resources. It seeks to transform the edge into an IT services platform for hosting resource-intensive and delay-stringent services for mobile users, thereby significantly enhancing perceived service quality of experience. However, erratic user mobility impedes seamless service continuity as well as satisfying delay-stringent service requirements, especially as users roam farther away from the serving MEC resource, which deteriorates quality of experience. This work proposes a deep reinforcement learning based service mobility management approach for ensuring seamless migration of service instances along user mobility. The proposed approach focuses on the problem of selecting the optimal MEC resource to host services for high mobility users, thereby reducing service migration rejection rate and enhancing service availability. Efficacy of the proposed approach is confirmed through simulation experiments, where results show that on average, the proposed scheme reduces service delay by 8%, task computing time by 36%, and migration rejection rate by more than 90%, when comparing to a baseline scheme.

  • 스마트 폰을 중심으로 하는 이동단말들의 폭발적인 증가로 인해 모바일 데이터 트래픽 또한 기하 급수적으로 증가해 왔으며 이로 인해 발생되는 네트워크의 부하를 줄이면서 동시에 이동단말의 이동시에도 서비스 제공에 영향을 주지 않기 위한 여러 이동성 관리 방안들이 Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) 및 Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP)를 통해 제안되어 왔다. 최근에는 이동성 관리의 주체가 되는 네트워크 시스템들을 가능한 분산시킴으로써 네트워크의 확장성 및 신뢰성을 높이기 위한 노력들이 진행 중에 있다. IETF에서는 분산형 이동성 관리 방법으로 Distributed Mobility Management (DMM) 방식을 표준화 중에 있으며 세부적으로는 부분 분산형 방식과 완전 분산형 방식을 포함하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) 기반의 네트워크를 대상으로 Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP)를 확장, 적용하는 완전 분산형 이동성 관리 방법 (FuDMM)을 제안하였으며, 기존 방식들과의 정성적 비교를 통해 FuDMM에 대한 성능 측면의 장단점을 분석하였다.

  • 모바일 애드 혹 네트워크는 기존의 유선망과 같은 고정적인 네트워크 인프라 없이 이동 노드들만으로 구성된 통신망으로써 노드의 잦은 이동으로 인하여 변화하는 네트워크 토폴로지를 안정적으로 유지하는 것이 매우 어렵다. 이에 본 논문에서는 노드의 이동성을 고려한 안정적인 클러스터 헤드 선정을 통해 클러스터 내 토폴로지를 유지, 관리하는 클러스터링 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 방법은 모든 노드가 자신의 주변 노드 수 변화를 통해 이동성을 측정하여 가장 낮은 이동성을 갖는 노드를 클러스터 헤드로 선정하며, 선정된 클러스터 헤드는 자신의 클러스터 이동성을 측정하고 이를 통해 클러스터 별 Hello 메시지 전송 주기를 적응적으로 조절한다. 제안하는 방법의 성능 평가를 위해 모의실험을 수행하였으며, 그 결과 기존 방법들보다 클러스터 헤드의 재선정 횟수와 네트워크 부하를 감소시키고 네트워크 토폴로지를 안정적으로 유지시킴을 입증하였다.

  • Cloud vehicular networks are a promising paradigm to improve vehicular through distributing computation tasks between remote clouds and local vehicular terminals. Software-Defined Network(SDN) can bring advantages to Intelligent Transportation System(ITS) through its ability to provide flexibility and programmability through a logically centralized controlled cluster that has a full comprehension of view of the network. However, as the SDN paradigm is currently studied in vehicular ad hoc networks(VANETs), adapting it to work on cloud-based vehicular network requires some changes to address particular computation features such as task computation of applications of cloud-based vehicular networks. There has been initial work on briging SDN concepts to vehicular networks to reduce the latency by using the fog computing technology, but most of these studies do not directly tackle the issue of task computation. This paper proposes a Software-Defined Cloud-based vehicular Network called SDCVN framework. In this framework, we study the effectiveness of task computation of applications of cloud-based vehicular networks with vehicular cloud and roadside edge cloud. Considering the edge cloud service migration due to the vehicle mobility, we present an efficient roadside cloud based controller entity scheme where the tasks are adaptively computed through vehicular cloud mode or roadside computing predictive trajectory decision mode. Simulation results show that our proposal demonstrates a stable and low route setup time in case of installing the forwarding rules of the routing applications because the source node needs to contact the controller once to setup the route.

운동실조형 뇌성마비 아동의 이중과제훈련에 의한 균형 및 일상생활활동의 변화 : 사례보고 (Changes in the Balance and Activities of Daily Living on Children with Ataxic Cerebral Palsy from Dual Task Training : Case Study)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study has been performed to find the changes in the balance and activities of daily living on children with ataxic cerebral palsy from dual task training. Methods : This study selects 3 subjects for 7.6 years old who were diagnosed with children with ataxic cerebral palsy. The dual task training applied three times a week for six weeks to ataxic cerebral palsy. To assess changes in balance, we performed the length and surface area ellipse of central of pressure, Pediatric Balance Scale, We also assessed activities of daily living using Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory. Result : There were statistically significant differences in the changes during training period for the static(length and surface area ellipse of central of pressure) and functional balance(PBS). There were statistically significant differences in the changes during training period for the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory including self-care and mobility domains, except for social function domain. Conclusion : The results from this case study suggest that dual task training may have a beneficial changes on balance and activities of daily living for children with ataxic cerebral palsy.

  • Sawing experiments using a two-arm system have been performed in this work. The two-arm system under consideration of two kinematically-nonidentical arms. A passive joint is inserted at the end-point of one robot in order to increase the mobility up to the motion degree required for sawing tasks. A hybrid control algorithm for control of the two-arm system is designed. We experimentally show that the performance of the velocity and force response are satisfactory, and that one additional passive joint not only prevents the system from unwanted yaw motion in the sawing task, but also allows an unwanted pitch motion to be notably reduced by an internal load control. To show the general applicability of the proposed algorithms, we perform experimentation under several different conditions for saw, such as three saw blades, two sawing speeds, and two vertical forces.

HMIPv6에서의 고속 매크로 핸드오프 지원 방안 (A Fast Handoff between MAPs in Hierarchical Mobile IPv6)

  • Internet Engineering Task Force(IETF)는 효율적인 이동성 지원을 위해 Hierarchical Mobile IPv6(HMIPv6)를 제안하였다. HMIPv6는 Mobility Anchor Point(MAP) 도메인 내에서 기존 Mobile IP(MIP)에서 모바일 노드의 이동시 마다 필수적이었던 시그널링 오버헤드와 Binding Update(BU)로 인한 지연을 줄 일수 있는 방법을 제공한다 하지만 MAP과 MAP사이를 이동하는 사용자에 대해서는 아무런 대비책을 제시하지 않고 있기 때문에 실시간 응용프로그램의 사용에 있어서 이 경우 상당한 지연이 발생한다. 본 논문은 MAP과 MAP사이를 이동하는 사용자에 대해서도 사용자의 통신에 대한 영향을 최소화할 수 있도록 핸드오프 지연시간을 단축할 수 있는 고속 핸드오프를 제안하고 수학적 모델을 통하며 기존의 HMIPv6와 비교하였다.

The Differential Impacts of 'Communication'and 'Computing' Functions in Smartphones on Individuals' Performance and the Moderating Role of Organizational Roles

  • This study investigated the antecedents and the performance impact of two types of Smartphone functions (communication vs. computing functions) in organizational environment and the moderating impact of Smartphone users' organizational roles. More specifically, identifying two distinct types of Smartphone functions such as communication functions and computing functions (including informational, social network, and resource management functions), we investigated the impact of three antecedents (Smartphone dependency, task mobility, and perceived critical mass) on the use of the two Smartphone functions and how organizational workers' perceived performance gains differ by using these two different Smartphone functions for their workplace activities. We tested our hypotheses with survey data collected from 176 organizational workers. Our findings suggest that Smartphone dependency, task mobility and perceived critical mass of Smartphone use are significantly associated with the use of the two different functions, and that the use of computing functions is more strongly associated with perceived performance gain than the use of communication functions. We also found that managerial roles played by individual workers differently moderate the impact of Smartphone use on perceived performance gain. The present findings enable researchers and practitioners to better understand the impact of Smartphone use in workplaces.

IPv6 네트워크에서 계층적 이동성 관리의 성능향상 방안 (A Performance Enhancement Scheme of Hierarchical Mobility Management in IPv6 Networks)

  • 최근 이동통신 기술이 급격히 발달함에 따라 이동 중에도 언제 어디서나 인터넷에 접속하여 통신하기를 원하는 사용자들이 증가하고 있다. Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6)는 기존의 Mene IPv6 (MIPv6)에서 발생되는 긴 핸드오버 지연, 시그날링 오버헤드 등의 문제점을 개선시키기 위하여 Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)에 의해 제안되었다. HMIPv6는 Mobility Anchor Point (MAP)라는 새로운 개체를 도입하여 MAP 도메인 내에서의 마이크로 이동성을 지원하기 위한 방법이다. 그러나 HMIPv6는 MAP 도메인 내에서의 이동성 지원에서는 좋은 성능을 보이지만 사용자가 MAP 도메인 간을 이동하는 매크로 이동성의 경우 MIPv6에 비하여 더 큰 지연시간이 발생한다. 그 이유는 HMIPv6에서 도메인 간 핸드오버가 발견하게 되면 Mobile Node (MN)은 두 개의 주소를 생성하고 생성된 주소를 각각 Home Agent (HA)와 MAP에 등록하여야 하기 때문이다. 우리는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 도메인 간 핸드오버가 발생하더라도 한 개의 주소만을 생성하여 따른 핸드오버를 지원할 수 있는 방안을 제안한다. 제안방안에서는 MAP가 관리하는 MN의 수가 감소하게 되고 패킷을 인터셉트하기 위한 proxy Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP)를 수행하지 않아도 되기 때문에 MAP 및 MAP도메인의 부하가 감소하게 된다. 우리는 시뮬레이션 및 수식분석을 통하여 제안방안의 성능을 HMIPv6와 비교하여 분석하였다.
