Level Set Based Topological Shape Optimization of Hyper-elastic Nonlinear Structures using Topological Derivatives (위상 민감도를 이용한 초탄성 비선형 구조의 레벨셋 기반 위상 및 형상 최적설계)

  • A level set based topological shape optimization method for nonlinear structure considering hyper-elastic problems is developed. To relieve significant convergence difficulty in topology optimization of nonlinear structure due to inaccurate tangent stiffness which comes from material penalization of whole domain, explicit boundary for exact tangent stiffness is used by taking advantage of level set function for arbitrary boundary shape. For given arbitrary boundary which is represented by level set function, a Delaunay triangulation scheme is used for current structure discretization instead of using implicit fixed grid. The required velocity field in the actual domain to update the level set equation is determined from the descent direction of Lagrangian derived from optimality conditions. The velocity field outside the actual domain is determined through a velocity extension scheme based on the method suggested by Adalsteinsson and Sethian(1999). The topological derivatives are incorporated into the level set based framework to enable to create holes whenever and wherever necessary during the optimization.

A Study on the Optimum Design of Railway Vehicle Suspension Characteristics (철도차량 현가특성의 최적설계에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the most important suspension characteristics of railway vehicle, such as primary and secondary stiffness, are optimized to maximize ride qualify. Critical speed, secondary suspension stroke oil tangent track and derailment coefficient on the maximum curvature, are selected as the performance constraints. Piecewise linear curving model is used to evaluate derailment coefficient where it is assumed that wheel/rail contacts occurs at tread or at idealized flange. The combined design procedure is used to optimize above design variables at the same time.

  • A newly devised linear flexures bearing (KIMM-LFB) for reciprocating machines is disclosed having improved reliability for long lift. KIMM-LFB is an integrated device comprising a axially moving diaphragm with circumferentially arranged arc-shaped flexure blades secured between rim and hub spacers, which turn out to have higher radial stiffness and lower Von-Mises peak stresses than the one with circumferential tangent cantilever flexure blades.   • In order to investigate dynamic behaviors of marine cables under wave and earthquake forces a geometric nonlinear. F, E formulation of marine cables is presented and tangent stiffness and mass matrices for the isoparametric cable element are derived, The initial equilibrium state of cables subjected to self -weights and current forces is determined and free vibration and dynamic nonlinear analysis of cable structures under additional environmental loads are performed based on the initial configuration Challenging examples are presented and discussed in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the present finite element method and investigate dynamic nonlinear behaviors of marine cables.

  • The present study is concerned with the application of dynamic relaxation method in the investigation of the large deflection behavior of spatial structures. This numerical algorithm do not require the computation or formulation of any tangent stiffness matrix. The convergence to the solution is achieved by using only vectorial quantities and no stiffness matrix is required in its overall assembled form. In an effort to evaluate the merits of the methods, extensive numerical studies were carried out on a number of selected structural systems. The advantages of using dynamic relaxation methods, in tracing the post-buckling behavior of spatial structures, are demonstrated.

  • Numerical procedures for the geometrically nonlinear finite element analysis of prestressed concrete shell structures under tendon-induced nonconservative loads have been presented. The equivalent load approach is employed to realize the effect of prestressing tendon. In this study, the tendon-induced nonconservative loads are rigorously formulated into the load correction stiffness matrix(LCSM) taking the characteristics of Present shell element into account. Also, improved nonlinear formulations of a shell element are used by including second order rotations in the displacement field. Numerical example shows that beneficial effect on the convergence behavior can be obtained by the realistic evaluation of tangent stiffness matrix according to the present approaches.

  • Tangent stiffness matrices are derived for the torsional and lateral stability analysis of the space beams and framed structures with the symmetric thin-walled section by using the principle of virtual displacement. In the cases of restrained torsion and unrestrained torsion, the elastic and geometric stiffness matrices are evaluated by using the Hermitian polynomials which represent the displacement field of the beam element in simple flexure. Numerical examples illustrate the accuracy and convergence characteristics of the derived formulations.

  • In this paper, a geometric nonlinear analysis procedure of beam-column element including multi-noded cable element is presented. For this, first a stiffness matrix about beam-column element which considers the second effect of initial force supposing the curved shape at each time step with Hermitian polynomials as the shape function is derived and second, tangent stiffness matrix about multi-noded cable element being too. To verify geometric nonlinearity of this newly developed multi-noded cable-truss element, IPS(Innovative Prestressed Support) system using this theory is analysed by geometric nonlinear method and the results are compared with those by linear analysis.

  • This paper presents a non-linear analysis procedure for plane frame structures by finite element formulation with assumptions of Timoshenko beam theory. Finite element displacement method based on Lagrangian formulation is used and two-noded and isoparametric line element is adopted to represent finite element model. The layered approach is used for the elasto-plastic analysis of the plane frame structures with rectangular and I cross sections. A load incremental method combined with the tangent stiffness and the initial stiffness methods for each load increment is used for the solution of non-linear equations. Numerical examples are presented to investigate the behavior and the accuracy of the elasto-plastic non-linear application and the results of this study are compared with other solutions using the concept of plastic hinge.
