Pompholyx is a special vesicular type of hand and foot dermatitis. It is an acute, chronic or recurrent dermatosis of the fingers, palms and soles, characterized by a sudden onset of many deep-seated pruritic clear vesicles. We diagnosed a patient with pompholyx as damp heat and treated with wet dressing by gauze soaked in distilled solution of Gamihwangryunhaedok-tang(Jiaweihuanglianjiedu-tang). After treatment with wet dressing, we observed the improvement. Based on this study, it is considered that wet dressing with Gamihwangryunhaedok-tang(Jiaweihuanglianjiedu-tang) can be applied to the treatment of pompholyx.
The GC pictures were taken to investigate the difference of Samul-tang and Sakunja-tang from their distillate each. For Samul-tang, it's distillate contained many peaks which had been shown very small peaks in the GC picture of the original solution, but the one pick(rt about 7 min.) of the picture didn't been found in the GC picture of the distillate. For Sakunja-tang, it's distillate contained all peaks which had shown in the GC picture of the original solution. After distillation, there was almost no peak in the rest of the solution.
Objectives: The object of this study was to observe the in vitro antibacterial effects of Chungdae-tang aqueous extracts, traditionally used for treating various gynecological diseases including vaginitis in Korea against Gardnerella vaginalis, and combination effects of Chungdae-tang extracts with Clindamycin were also monitored in this study. Methods: Antibacterial activities against Gardnerella vaginalis of Chungdae-tang aqueous extracts were detected using standard agar microdilution methods. In addition, the effects on the bacterial growth curve were also monitored at MIC and MIC${\times}$2 levels. The combination effects of Chungdae-tang aqueous extracts with Clindamycin were observed by Checkerboard microtiter assay, and the effects of bacterial growth curve treated with or Chungdae-tang aqueous extracts MIC+Clindamycin MIC, 1/2MIC and 1/4MIC, respectively. In the present study, Gardnerella vaginalis were incubated under $37^{\circ}C$, 10% $CO_2$; and bacterial growth curves were calculated at 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120hrs after incubations. Results: MIC of Chungdae-tang aqueous extracts against Gardnerella vaginalis were detected as $3.906{\pm}2.344$(0.782~6.250) mg/$m\ell$, respectively. MIC of Clindamycin was detected as $0.010{\pm}0.006$(0.004~0.016) ${\mu}g/m\ell$ at same conditions. In addition, Clindamycin and Chungdae-tang aqueous extracts also showed marked dosage-dependent inhibition of bacterial growth, and more dramatical inhibitions were detected in Clindamycin+Chungdae-tang aqueous extracts MIC treatment as compared with each of single Clindamycin MIC and Chungdae-tang aqueous extracts MIC treatments, respectively. In addition, quite similar inhibitory effects on bacterial growth were detected in Clindamycin 1/4 MIC+Chungdae-tang aqueous extracts MIC treatment as compared with single Clindamycin MIC treatment in the present study. FIC index in combination of Chungdae-tang and Clindamycin were detected as $0.775{\pm}0.285$ (0.500~1.250) at Checkerboard microtiter assay. Conclusions: The results obtained in this study suggest that Chungdae-tang aqueous extracts showed antibacterial effects against Gardnerella vaginalis, and it also showed dosage-dependent inhibitory effects on the bacterial growth. In addition, combination treatment of Chungdae-tang aqueous extract with Clindamycin showed more potent inhibitory effects on the growth of Gardnerella vaginalis with FIC index $0.775{\pm}0.285$(0.500~1.250), respectively. It means, the combination of Chungdae-tang aqueous extract with Clindamycin is partially synergistic effects. It, therefore, is expected that effective dosages of Clindamycin will be reduced to 1/4 or over 1/4 levels as combination with Chungdae-tang extracts, respectively.
Objectives: We aimed to identify. the effect of Jeongcheon-tang(定喘湯) and Cheongsangboha-tang(淸上補下湯) on the transcriptional activities of cytokine IL-4, IL-5, IL-6 and IL-10 involved in asthma model. Materials and Methods: RBL-2H3 cell lines were used. Cells were stimulated with calcium inophore($2{\mu}M$ : Sample group 1, $4{\mu}M$ : Sample group 2) for maximal gene expression. After 3rd treatment of samples and incubation(per 24hours), total cellular RNAs were collected using Trizol solution method. Then transcriptional activities of IL-4, IL-5, IL-6 and IL-10 were measured by RT-PCR with electrophoresis. Results: In IL-4 study, Jeongcheon-tang treated group showed 82.76%(Sample group 1) of transcriptional activities compared to the control group and Cheongsangboha-tang treated groups showed 85.77% (Sample group 1), 89.42% (Sample group 2) of transcriptional activities compared to the control groups. In IL-5 study, Jeongcheon-tang treated groups showed 88.24%(Sample group 1), 98.83%(Sample group 2) of transcriptional activities compared to the control groups and Cheongsangboha-tang treated group showed 73.66%(Sample group 2) of transcriptional activities compared to the control group. In IL-6 study, Jeongcheon-tang treated group showed 92.95%(Sample group 2) of transcriptional activities compared to the control group and Cheongsangboha-tang treated group showed n.40%(Sample group 2) of transcriptional activities compared to the control group. In IL-10 study, Jeongcheon-tang treated group showed 118.46% (Sample group 2) of transcriptional activities compared to the control group. Conclusions: This study shows that Jeongcheon-tang has the inhibitory effect on the transcription of IL-4, IL-5, IL-6 gene expression and the increasing effect on the transcription of IL-10 gene expression, and Cheongsangboha-tang has the inhibitory effect on the transcription of IL4, IL-5 and IL-6 gene expression in RBL-2H3 cell lines. Advanced studies are required to investigate the mechanisms of inhibition or increase by herbal medicine in asthma model.
Objective : The aim of this experimental study was to investigate the anti-diarrhea effects of Jisa-tang using mice and guinea pigs. Methods : We feed Jisa-tang to mice and guinea pigs to investigate its effects for anti-diarrhea action. We observed its actions on gastrointestinal smooth muscles, on the transportability of small and large intestines, on diarrhea induced by castor oil and magnesium sulfate, and on enteropooling by castor oil and prostaglandin $E_2(PGE_2)$. Results : 1. Jisa-tang showed alleviation, depending on the density, only on the contraction of mice's gastrointestinal smooth muscles induced by histamine. 2. The transportability of the small intestine was not significantly constrained by Jisa-tang. However, the enhancement of pyridostigmine-induced transportability of he small intestine was significantly constrained in the group administered 900mg/kg of Jisa-tang (p<0.05). 3. The transportability of large intestine was significantly constrained in the group administered 1,800mg/kg of Jisa-tang. 4. Jisa-tang showed significant anti-diarrhea effects on diarrhea induced by castor oil and by $MgSO_4$ in the group administered 1,800mg/kg of Jisa-tang. 5. Significant reduction of effects of enteropooling induced by caster oil and by prostaglandin $E_2$ were observed only in the group administered 1,800mg/kg of Jisa-tang. Conclusions : We conclude that Jisa-tang has advantageous effects on drug-induced diarrhea and will contribute to the development of diarrhea treatment through further related studies.

Although clinical trials have been lacking, various pharmacological actions for Yukmijihwang-tang has been identified newly using animal models. In addition, it was reported that Yukmijihwang-tang increases structural chromosome aberrations significantly in Chinese hamster lung cells. In this article, it is purposed that new studies for pharmacology and toxicology of Yukmijihwang-tang are reviewed. Insight into new studies of Yukmijihwang-tang at the cellular and animal levels will enhance our understanding of Yukmijihwang-tang against various diseases will provide new tools to diagnose and treat patients. Methods : Recent researches for Yukmijihwang-tang were reviewed and summarized in terms of pharmacological action and toxicity. All sources for review were based on recent studies loaded on data base of web sites such as Science Direct and National Center for Biotechnology Information. Results and Conclusions : Recently, reports showed that YMJ had antiaging effects, antioxidant and free radical scavenging activities, anti-renal hypertension and prevented tumors, and diabetes mellitus. However, there is little information on its safety except general toxicity, acute and sub-chronic oral toxicity, or genotoxicity. In addition, clinical trial for Yukmijihwang-tang was limited even though Yukmijihwang-tang has been used extensively in Korean traditional medicine. Thus, further studies are necessary to focus on safety evaluation and clinical trial for Yukmijihwang-tang.
