  • It is very important physiological and economical problems to hatching within a day by increasing hatching-ratio of silkworm eggs in sericulture, and modified dark incubating method was experimented in Japan. The author studied on the economical problems of that rather than physiological study. Hatching was induced and accelerated by illumination before hatching 5 days which incubated in the dark room after eye spot pigmented eggs emerged 10-20 percentage. It was increased by 80-90% in hatching-ratio, but the hatching was delayed a day. In autumn silkworm, newly hatched silkworms were hatched silkworms were hatched in the dark room because of high temperature period tough modified dark incubation was passed only 4 days. The author wonder which is more effective between effect of increasing the hatching-ratio and the health of silkworms.

  • Wood-anatomical studies on vines, one of the main materials for fork craftworks used in the past, were insufficient compared to those for trees. Therefore, it is important to identify the species of vines in order to preserve the vinery craftwork relics. In this study, the species of 31 samples (30 traditional baskets and one sculpture relic) obtained from Korea were identified. Twenty-two baskets among 30 baskets were identified as Cocculus trilobus DC, a perennial vine which has flexible xylem and thick fibers in phloem. The other baskets were identified as $Lespedeza$ spp., a shrub with tough xylem. The sculpture part was $Actinidia$ $arguta$ Planch., a perennial vine with chambered piths.

  • Seoul Metro Line 9 (SML9) is the first subway line that private capital invests in Korea. SML9 will cross Seoul, linking the Gimpo Airport to the Gangnam district (25.5km) opening in the first half of 2009. SML9 has a new model in Korea constructed by metropolitan government and private company and operated by specialized public transportation service provider. SML9 is confronted with tough environment of stagnated public transportation and strong competitor, Olympic city expressway. And SML9 is under pressure for showing high efficiency as non-governmental organization from both customers and government. Consequently SML9 must lead the maximum efficiency by using its material and human resource. It is necessary that SML9 raise a competitive power and display its ability in active collaboration with relative organization and company. Hereupon, I propose renovation plans from viewpoint of operation field of SML9, (1) efficient train scheduling regime focusing on the combination of express and local train (2) close connection of other mean of transportation and (3) effective connection convention with Airport Railroad (AREX) as the line connected directly.

  • Low-threshold optical bistability is essential for practical nonlinear optical applications. Many bistable optical devices based on high-quality-factor resonators have been proposed to reduce the threshold intensity. However, demonstrating high-quality-factor resonance requires complex fabrication techniques. In this work, we numerically demonstrate optical bistability with bound states in the continuum in a simple one-dimensional Si photonic crystal. The designed structure supports bound states in the continuum, producing an ultrahigh quality factor without tough fabrication conditions. The threshold intensity of the designed device is 150 MW/cm2 at the optical communication wavelength. This scheme may lead to a new class of nonlinear photonics.

  • Within the framework of DECOVALEX-2019 Task D, full-scale engineered barriers experiment (FEBEX) at Grimsel Test Site was numerically simulated to investigate an applicability of implemented Barcelona basic model (BBM) into TOUGH2-MP/FLAC3D simulator, which was developed for the prediction of the coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical behavior of bentonite buffer. And the calculated heater power, temperature, relative humidity, total stress, saturation, water content and dry density were compared with in situ data monitored in the various sections. In general, the calculated heater power and temperature provided a fairly good agreement with experimental observations, however, the difference between power of heater #1 and that of heater #2 could not captured in the numerical analysis. It is necessary to consider lamprophyre with low thermal conductivity around heater #1 and non-simplified installation progresses of bentonite blocks in the tunnel for better modeling results. The evolutions and distributions of relative humidity were well reproduced, but hydraulic model needs to be modified because the re-saturation process was relatively fast near the heaters. In case of stress evolutions due to the thermal and hydraulic expansions, the computed stress was in good agreement with the data. But, the stress is slightly higher than the measured in situ data at the early stage of the operation, because gap between rock mass and bentonite blocks have not been considered in the numerical simulations. The calculated distribution of saturation, water content, and dry density along the radial distance showed good agreement with the observations after the first and final dismantling. The calculated dry density near the center of the FEBEX tunnel and heaters were overestimated compared with the observations. As a result, the saturation and water content were underestimated with the measurements. Therefore, numerical model of permeability is needed to modify for the production of better numerical results. It will be possible to produce the better analysis results and more realistically predict the coupled THM behavior in the bentonite blocks by performing the additional studies and modifying the numerical model based on the results of this study.

  • Based on the structure feature of a tree, a cylindrical $Ti_2AlC$/graphite layered composite has been fabricated through heat treating a graphite column and six close-matched thin wall $Ti_2AlC$ cylinders bonded with the $Ti_2AlC$ powders at $1300^{\circ}C$ and low oxygen partial pressure. SEM examination reveals that the bond interlayers between cylinders or that between cylinder and column are not fully dense without any crack formation. During the compressive test, the strain of the $Ti_2AlC$/graphite layered composite is about twice higher than that of the monolithic $Ti_2AlC$ ceramic, and the compressive strength of the layered composite is 348 MPa. The layered composite show the noncatastrophic fracture behaviors due to the debonding and shelling off of the layers, which are different from the monolithic $Ti_2AlC$ ceramic. The mechanism of the improved deformation capacity and noncatastrophic failure modes are attributed to the presence of the central soft graphite column and cracks deflection by the bond interlayers.

  • Effect of a flux composition on weld metal toughness in submerged arc welding with 60kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$ grade C-Mo type wires was investigated and interpreted in terms of weld metal microstructure and hardenability. Flux workability was also studied by characterizing a weld bead profile. Compared to other weld metals, .weld metal used alumina basic flux with nickel showed lowest oxygen content, highest hardenability and the most acicular ferrite. The highest impact toughness of that weld metal, however, was attributed to the tough matrix due to the nickel rather than to the larger amount of acicular ferrite. Manganese silicate flux had better workability than alumina basic flux, showing broader welding conditions resulting in a depth-to-width ratio of 0.5. The composition of oxides in the weld metal was dependent on the flux composition, showing MnO-SiO$_2$-TiO in manganese silicate flux and MnO-SiO$_2$-Al$_2$O$_3$-TiO in alumina basic flux. MnO-SiO$_2$composition in both oxides was similar to a tephroite.

  • ο-(2-Vinyloxyethoxy)benzylidenemalononitrile (3a) and methyl ο-(2-vinyloxyethoxy)-benzylidenecyanoacetate (3b), m-(2-vinyloxyethoxy)benzylidenemalononitrile (4a), and methyl m-(2-vinyloxyethoxy)benzylidenecyanoacetate (4b) were prepared by the condensation of ο-(2-vinyloxyethoxy)benzaldehyde (1) and m-(2-vinyloxyethoxy)benzaldehyde (2) with malononitrile or methyl cyanoacetate, respectively. Bifunctional vinyl ether monomers 3a and 3b polymerized quantitatively with radical initiators in γ-butyrolactone solution at 65 ℃, while meta-isomers 4a and 4b gave lower yields of polymers under the same conditions. The polymers 5-6 obtained from the monomers 3-4 were insoluble in common solvents due to cross-linking. Under the same polymerization conditions ethyl vinyl ether polymerized well with model compounds ο-methoxybenzylidenemalononitrile 7a, methyl ο-methoxybenzylidenecyanoacetate 7b, m-methoxybenzylidenemalononitrile 8a, and methyl m-methoxybenzylidenecyanoacetate 8b, respectively, to give 1:1 alternating copolymers 9-10 in high yields. Cross-linked polymers 5-6 showed a thermal stability up to 300 ℃, and showed a double phase degradation pattern in their TGA thermograms. Polymers 5-6 showed broad endothermic bands around 75-110 ℃ without any characteristic Tg peaks in DSC thermograms. Alternating copolymers 9-10, except copolymer 9b were soluble in common organic solvents. The inherent viscosities of polymer 9-10 were in the range of 0.35-0.62 dL/g. Polymer films cast from acetone solution were cloudy and tough and Tg values obtained from DSC thermograms were in the range of 118-165 ℃.

  • p-(2-Vinyloxyethoxy)benzylidenemalononitrile 2 and methyl p-(2-vinyloxyethoxy)benzylidenecyanoacetate 3 was prepared by the condensation of p-(2-vinyloxyethoxy)benzaldehyde 1 with malononitrile or methyl cyanoacetate, respectively. Vinyl ether monomers 2 and 3 polymerized quantitatively with radical initiators in γ-butyrolactone solution at 65 ℃. The trisubstituted terminal double bond participated in the vinyl polymerization and radical polymerization of 2 and 3 led to swelling polymers 4 and 5 that were not soluble in common solvents due to cross-linking. Under the same polymerization conditions ethylvinyl ether polymerized well with model compounds of p-methoxybenzylidenemalononitrile 6 and methyl p-methoxybenzylidenecyanoacetate 7, respectively, to give 1:1 alternating copolymers 8 and 9 in high yields. Polymers 4 and 5 showed a thermal stability up to 300 ℃ without any characteristic Tg peaks in DSC thermograms. Alternating copolymers 8 and 9 were soluble in common solvents such as acetone and DMSO, and the inherent viscosities of the polymers were in the range of 0.36-0.74 dL/g. Films cast from acetone solution were cloudy and tough and Tg values obtained from DSC thermograms were in the range of 59-60 ℃.
