  • The T-stub subjected to an axial tensile force shows various behavior characteristics according to the changes in the diameter and tightening force of the fastener, the geometric shape of the T-stub, and the material properties of the T-stub and fastener. Due to the influence of these changes, the T-stub shows three failure modes: plastic failure after the flexural yielding of the T-stub flange, flexural yielding of the T-stub fillet, and fracture of the fastener. In general, a T-stub with a thin flange and where the gauge distance of the fastener is long has a larger energy dissipation capacity than a T-stub with a thick flange and where the gauge distance of the fastener is short, due to the plastic deformation after flexural yielding. In this study, three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis was carried out to determine the effect of the fastener used for fastening the T-stub on the energy dissipation capacity of the T-stub. For the fastener of the T-stub analysis model, F10T-M20 high-tension bolts and ${\varnothing}19.05-mm$ (3/4-inch) SMA bars were modeled, and the geometric shape of the T-stub was selected to represent the flexural yielding of the T-stub fillet and the axial tensile failure of the fastener.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of the beam to column connection with reformed T-stubs and to ascertain the application of semi-rigid connection with reformed T-stubs to middle high rise buildings. The tests of steel frame using semi-rigid connections with reformed T-stub and existing T-stub were performed under cyclic loading condition. Finite element analysis was also carried out and the results of FEM were compared with results of tests. The thickness of reformed T-stub and the distance of bolt were used for parameters in the analysis. The structural behaviors of reformed T-stub were understood qualitatively and the possibility of application of semi-rigid connections with reformed T-stubs was ascertained.

  • Double split tee connection is a full strength-partial restrained connection that suitable for ordinary moment frame and special moment frame which demonstrates behavior characteristics depending on the stiffness ratio of columns and beams, changes in the geometric shape of the T-stub, number of fasteners and effect of panel zone. For the double split tee connection to ensure structurally safe behavior, it needs to exhibit sufficient strength, stiffness and ductile capacity. This study sought to investigate the effects of the moment-rotation angle relationship of the double split tee connection and to evaluate the initial rotational stiffness of the double split tee connection depending on changes in the geometric shape of the T-stub. To this end, two different double split tee connection specimens are experimented which designed to change geometric parameter values (${\alpha}^{\prime}$) of the T-stub, and a three-dimensional finite element analysis was performed.

  • The use of semi-rigid joints can be considered in the beam-to-column connections of buildings. The advantages of semi-rigid joints can be found in the convenience of construction and the ability of effective moment distribution of members. This study is a basic step to acertain the application of middle high rise buildings by using reformed T-stub, of which rotation capacity is thought to be excellent compared with that of existing T-stubs. The tests of tensile and compressive elements of reformed T-stubs were performed to investigate the behavior of reformed T-stubs. The beam-to-column connections using reformed T-stubs are tested under monotonic loading. The structural behaviors of reformed T-stubs were understood qualitatively and the possibility of application of semi-rigid connections with reformed T-stub was acertained.

  • Recently, studies on semi-rigid beam-to-column connections have been done to develop a T-stub element with separators between column face and T-stub flange. In this paper, inelastic analyses for the improved T-stub element are performed, and their results are compared with existing experimental results. The inelastic analyses using gap elements between column face and the separator, and initial stresses at the high-tension bolts result in good agreement with experimental results. Simplified design methods estimating the initial stiffness and the strength of the semi-rigid connection for compression force are proposed.

  • The analysis and design of steel frames are usually carried out under the assumption that the connections of beam-to-column are either fully rigid or ideally pinned. However the connections actually show semi-rigid behavior in many cases. The authors investigated the structural behavior of simi-rigid connection with reformed T-stub by using of SM490 steel. The objective of the study is to investigate the structural behavior of the beam-to-column semi-rigid connection with reformed T-stub, which is made of SS400 steel. The beam-to-column connections by using reformed T-stubs were tested under monotonic loading and cyclic loading condition. The possibility of application of semi-rigid connections with reformed T-stubs was ascertained from test results.

  • The objective of this study is to ascertain the applicability of T-stub connection for rigid connections. Tests and analysis are focused on the initial stiffness and their results are compared with the case of general rigid connections. Influential factors are investigated from the analysis results.

  • A T-stub connection with high-strength bolts under tensile force is affected by prying action force and the contact force, among others, between members. If a design equation that does not consider such prying action force and contact force between members is not proposed, the T-stub under tensile force is liable to be fractured under the strength lower than the estimated design strength. To prevent it, many studies have proposed contact force estimation equations between members as well as the prying action force of the T-stub connection with high-strength bolts. However, no design equations based on such research have been proposed in South Korea. Therefore, this study aims to propose an estimation model for more accurate prying action force and contact force, and improve on previously proposed estimation models by implementing the three-dimensional, nonlinear finite element analysis. Throughout the results of three-dimensional, nonlinear finite element analysis, the prediction model proposed in this research for the prying action force and contact force of a T-stub provided much more accurate estimation than that of a existing prediction model previously suggested.

  • We have presented a compact two-wire helical antenna adopted an open stub in opposite to a feeding point, which is for a T-DMB antenna of mobile devices. By adjusting the length of the open stub or pasting a dielectric material on the open stub, the input impedance around 200 MHz, bands of the T-DMB, can be easily control, even though the total height of the antenna is less than 8 cm(0.053 $\lambda$ at 200 MHz). The operating mechanism of the antenna is explained by using equivalent circuits of two modes, an unbalanced mode and a balanced mode. Based on the analysis of the equivalent circuits, the effects of using the open stub are validated. Several proposed antennas have been fabricated and measured. One of the fabricated antennas has -10 dB impedance bandwidth of $196{\sim}204$ MHz(8 MHz) whose value covers one channel of the T-DMB(6 MHz). The measured $S_{21}$ of the antenna is -38.6 dB which is about 17 dB higher than that of a monopole antenna whose height is same with the proposed antenna.
